Ouuuuuuuu, wait, wait, wait.. stop for a moment..

What club do we support?

We'll beat Gillingham 2-1 and then smash Morecambe and Chesterfield off the park. Then we'll see if we still have fans being negative!

It's that optomistic point where everything is possible. The respect bit is that it's the same for Gillingham and they will certainly be up for the game.

I would love a convincing Blades victory but day one of the season will see no one promoted or relegated. It's a long haul.

The optimism can be destroyed very quickly. Two defeats in our opening two games and I predict meltdown.

This is what they're running out to this year...

46 x 3 points is 138 possible points

so long as we collect 95 points from 46 games Ill be happy
when they come I dont give a fig

I am optimistic but I have one little concern...

do the players have it in them to live up to the amount of expectation placed on them this season?

The expectation has never been higher, similarly the need for promotion as well.

I think Gillingham may be this season's surprise package so I'll be happy with a result.

Well.....I was optimistic/enthusiastic etc at the start of pre/season last year then I watched a couple of friendlies (which were terrible, Fenerbahce game aside). I persuaded myself that friendlies were just that and expected a decent season ahead based on how we finished the previous one.....then we kicked off and the rest, they say, is history.

Having said that, I do now believe we have the right manager in charge and I think we can kick on, there seems to be a bit more "togetherness" with the squad, just that elusive CB and I think we are set.

When we signed the SaS I was genuinely excited about this season. As I was when Adkins was announced. The CB issue has dragged me gradually back to hopeful. The CM situation is slightly worrying as well, but we'll see.

As for the Gills. I'm expecting to get a point but all 3 would be fantastic.

So who do we thing with add the first negative comments in the shoutbox Saturday?

NA has already said this season is going to be a slog. There will be ups and downs as we all know. We must stay focused on the task at hand and sod the cups.

The formula for promotion is 2 points per game - 92 points will surely be enough for the title with the league being tight with no standout teams. We got 90 the other year to finish 3rd but there was four standout teams that season and that caused the problem.

To get 92 points, it's simple - draw the away games and win the home games. In general, away wins are bonus points whilst failing to win at home are lost points. Obviously, we will not win all 23 at home and we will win games away but away draws, whilst not too exciting, are all important. Draw at Gills on Sat'di and then beat Chesterfield will be, IMO, a very solid start whilst also being a 3 point swing from the same two games last season.

I'd be happy with a draw and delighted with the win. UTB!

Are you that Wigan chairman in disguise on here? :D

Ask yourself. When do we ever and I mean ever do owt in the manner you suggest we will?

This league will end up being just as tough as it has in the previous 4 seasons

I do like your optimism tho :)

For the first time ever supporting the Blades I genuinely think we're going to win the league and score 100 goals.

I honestly think we'll smash Gillingham three or four nil and be top from day 1 right through to May.

The blades doctrine over the years is caution and pessamism . Any other is a bonus. Just cannot tempt fate.

UTB
