We lost that before a ball was kicked...

Why, why why why why do we go out and setup team tactics to cope with relegation threatened Bolton sodding Wanderers.

I know people will be on here slagging off their favourite scape goats... But we should have been starting that game on the front foot with our pacey right wing back over lapping and being an attacking threat, not our utility centre half stuck out there trying to nullify a non-existent aerial threat.

We set up negative and paid the price AT HOME. Why Bolton seem to send our coaching staff into blind tactical panic when the likes of Wolves don't is a mystery to me.

As we put on two small (though not weak) players in Sharp and Fleck, maybe we didn't change the side because of who we played, but more because we have another match on Monday. The substitutions probably shows that Wilder regretted these moves.

Agree, for the first time in almost a year I am more than annoyed, I’m angry.

Awful team selection, I am a Sharp fan but to put him against those giants at Centre back was ridiculous, the Basham, Baldock switch was baffling, we have seen, and obviously the opposition scouts have, that CCV and Bash on the right hand side is wide open defensively and Bolton targeted it from the off. The midfield in the first half was not up to the physical challenge and once Duffy was man marked out of it we didn’t know what to do.

A win today would have gained us 7 points from the Xmas fixtures before we Play Derby , we could have treated that as a free pass, now we have to try and get something which brings about the risk on injuries and suspensions before the Pigs game.

Fuming.

Poor decision to change the team.

Everyone knew how Bolton would play & we just let them. Some incredibly poor individual performances. You can't carry 4-5 players that are playing poorly.

People defend Lundstrum continuously, today he was awful. CCV, Bash, Jack all very poor, carruthers was worse.

We need to add some quality. Sharp has looked really poor recently and doesn't deserve to be near the team.

I think its insulting to Sharp and Wilder to say that his selection was 'ridiculous'.
Given the right support and service, Billy will score goals, that is demonstrably proven. He didn't get the sort of incisive passes that Coutts would have provided, so didn't get a look in and was made to look ordinary.
You have to play to his strengths. The nullification of Duffy made that impossible today.

End of the day if Clarke put away the tap in and the one on one with the keeper we win the match.

Simple as that for me, if you don’t take your chances then you don’t win. We did enough to get at least a point in what was an average performance.

Today we needed forwards able to put themselves about and cause trouble, Billy is an out and out goalscorer, the other stuff isn’t his game.

Very frustrating game. Bolton epitomise evergthing that I despise in football. I disagree that Lundstram was poor. Jack O ' C seems to be in a bad patch. Leon should have taken his chance just before half time. No luck with the bounce of the ball second half.

Really poor performance from just about everybody today. That’s got to be the worst we’ve been at home for 18 months. They all looked jaded. Every single one of them.

I didn’t think anyone played particularly well. Fleck was ok...nobody else was anywhere near that standard.

Bad day at the office. Again. We move on.

Let’s hope we can bring in some quality in the JTW. We really need it.

Damn, a squad of professionals run by a manager who refuses to throw the towel in now have to go to Derby and try and get a result. Absolutely spewing.

The League game after that is vastly more important. And if anyone says it is just for the same three points, then remember that is what Carlos said in September.

What dya think Wilder’d have done if they’d won today, played the kids at Derby? Time to rest a few after with the cup game.

I'm fuming to be honest, I said something like this would happen. And all these reports linking Brooks with Liverpool  Happy New Year

He could have started the team that started today. He won’t dare now. If Leon or Don or god forbid both pick up, an injury or suspension on Monday we are screwed.

Up until 6 weeks ago, we wouldn't have thought twice about Bolton. We'd just have gone straight out, been on the front foot from the off and dictated the pace and tempo of the game.

Bit of a pattern developing - QPR, Millwall, Preston, (Cardiff too & even to a degree Middlesbro as they were then), now Parky's hoofers.

We seem to really struggle imposing ourselves against these big, physical, in-yer-face sides.

We've got to find a way of "winning the right to play football" against these sides - we lost the battle big time this aft, we got bullied miserably.

Most of the team seemed off the boil today.
Only Duffy, Clarke and the Don when he came on get any real credit. Fleck woke up in the last 15 minutes but it wasn't enough.

The solution last year was to sign Hanson. Now obviously he isn’t good enough for this league but someone of a similar type but with more ability may be on the wanted list, we could then bully some of these sides back.

No we didnt. They set up negative and we've not managed to break through. Same against Norwich and same against the likes of Bury and Walsall last season.

They came for a draw. Once they got their goal it was always gonna be horrible.
They were more positive than us at the start. Scored and should have had a pen. I agree they are a big, horrible, time wasting team - but we were poor today and made it far too easy for them.

Nah mate, we picked Basham at right wing back to help combat their aerial threat at set pieces. It was negative and we shot ourselves in the foot by doing it.

Until Baldock came on they were the more positive team, because we were weak attacking.

The lesson he should learn is that he needs to stick to his principles

True.

When did we become a side that changes the way we play because of the shitehouse opposition? I get why he added more height to the side but there was no need to put Bash at right back.

Garbage. Sharp is now out of his depth at this level and thankfully Wilder is beginning to realise this.

We didn’t change the system at all. Bolton’s central pair manmarked Fleck and Duff when our centre halves had possession.

For me Lundstram and Stearman were poor and we need an upgrade.

Disagree about the system. We had no attacking outlet down the right hand side because chose not to play an out and out wing back. Therefore there was no outlet for our midfielders and they got shut down easily.

Thought Lundstram had a poor game but actually thought Stearman played well
