Sneaking 2nd

There’s 11 games to go. Be interesting to see how many points we were off second 11 games ago ( I suggest a lot)!

100% we can do it if we play a settled front 5 without resting.

Fleck, Norwood, Berge, (sub) Hourihane.

Sharp, MGW, (sub Ndiaye/Jebbison)

If fit that front five should start every game because we can get that 2nd spot if we do. If we rotate when it’s not forced through injury we will drop points. Hope Fleck is alright but if not Hourihane is more than capable of stepping in. If we carry on benching fit players like Berge for instance then we won’t make it.

When you look at the points we have thrown away, we could easily be in second place.
As much as I love the championship for how competitive it is, I have been underwhelmed by the lack of quality I’ve seen at the lane this season.
There seems be to about 10-15 teams who are pretty similar in terms of quality which make it a real bun fight.
I can i only really think of Forest and Blackburn who looked any good.

If we’d had won Friday I’d have let myself believe….I think it’s a touch too much to ask, especially with Bournmouth games in hand…and with Hecky adamant on rotating the team we‘re gonna have dips.

11 games ago, after PNE at home, we had 32 points from 23 games. Bournemouth had 49 from 26.

Accordingly, the gap was 17 points, but we’ve gone from 2 games in hand to playing 2 more than they have.

Current form table between us and them:-

United P10, 21 pts
B’mouth P10, 19 pts

Edit: I used the TWTD website for my figures too! 🙂

Head says that a five point cushion with a better goal difference and games in hand will get Bournemouth over the line. But with Derby, Reading and Hudds up next for them and all still fighting the table could look much better for us at the end of March.

Admittedly the odds are against us, but 5 points behind with 11 games to go is significantly better than a cat in hells chance.
mentioned it just after the Jan transfer window closed, Bournemouth rolled the dice again, great having the money and ability to bring in your top targets, but swings/roundabouts keeping everyone happy, integrating new players etc

If Bournemouth don't go up this season then surely they're fucked with Financial Fairplay rules. Let's hope so!

keeping my fingers crossed ! I know they have games in hand but, hoping they keep looking at the table and the gap Fulham have opened up, and how close other teams are to them, when they have spent so much of the season in and around the top two, and favourites for promotion, if they don't finish second, it will be a huge shock and a big job to face going into the play offs.

im starting to wonder if its possible, i think Huddersfield are still favourites to nick it. Bournemouth for a while have been pretty dreadful. only 4 wins this year in all competitions Yeovil Barnsley Birmingham & Blackpool & they play 10 games in the final 36 days (2nd apr- 7th may)

but i also said when Ismael was sacked by West Brom he could feel hard done to because he was higher in the form table than Bournemouth. it been decline for a while

Agree.....we were talking about this too, the standard this season seems very low.

Is the standard in the Championship lower than the season when we gained promotion under Wilder. I'd say yes.
However there is another theory, maybe we've been spoilt by watching PL league for 2 years
So in comparison these Championship teams seem really poor.

Never say never but it's unrealistic.

Ignoring everyone else, even if we hit 2 points per game until the end of the season, Bornmuff would need to get about half that for us to finish above them.

Considering the position we find ourselves in, it's mightily frustrating the amount of points we've dropped through conceding sloppy late goals or missing relatively easy chances.

It feels slightly bizarre that after what has felt like a mediocre season until fairly recently, is now leaving me frustrated thinking that we could easily be second.

Fair point, I think after the start we had to the season, most of us would settle for unrealistic re nicking 2nd and yet here we are, can't complain.
