Should he not be playing the same/similar formation to what we've been playing for the last 5 years? They are the players we have, they are suited to that formation. He still hasn't signed anyone so i think he should have waited to change formation/playing style until after he's signed some players and stamped his authority all over the club.

I can't help but think that having 4 forwards, 2 midfielders with 0 bottle and no intention of tackling/winning the ball back is criminal

Do we not need a player like a Nick Montgomery in the middle whose only job it is, is to protect the defence - win the ball back and allow the other creative midfielder to flourish?

Norwood's crossing and set pieces have been nothing short of abysmal - he offers fuck all to the club now

What’s the point in employing the man of not to let him manage the way he wants to.

you need to give him the resources to impact things otherwise keep heckingbottom from pennies on the dollar.

we might get a few extra wins now but if he signs players we have to start again in embedding a formation.

give the man some signing before it’s too late

Why employ someone with a proven track record of promotions and attractive attacking football in this division, and then tell him to play the formation and tactics of the previous manager which has failed for well over a year now and turned into the most defensive negative approach imaginable?

Should've just stuck with Hecky if we’re that obsessed with 3 at the back.

Who exactly is the old shape suited for? Bash is the only one for me. We already need a centre back and a new midfield even if we stick with the old shape. Wilder’s left us with 0 creativity and 6 strikers and it needs sorting.

I for one would rather see Slav get the time and players to actually implement his way of playing. Needed a complete refresh in my opinion and I’d rather see us playing a more modern style even if it takes a little while before we get going with it.

I know it’s the party line to moan about Norwood’s set pieces, but both Sharp and Egan missed good chances off Norwood’s crosses yesterday. McG missed one off a good Berge cross. Who else created chances?

Although we contributed largely to a shyte game there were little glimpses from Brewster that he wants to be here

There were also little glimpses from McBurnie that he can be useful if the ball is played into his feet instead of 10 feet over his head, the control and through ball to McG was excellent.

But we need three more midfielders with power, athleticism and creativity who can get up and down the pitch

Norwood has suddenly decided that he isn't moving anywhere beyond 25 yards from our own goal, which for our only creative midfielder is pretty stupid, or more likely he just isn't athletic enough to get forwards

3 at the back suits the whole squad, we have zero wingers ATM, I want Slav to play and mould the team/squad how he sees fit as well but the simple fact is there hasn't been any signings yet and the 2 coming in are a CB and CM. We still won't have any wingers. For Slav to play 433/4231 with Brewster as basically a right and left back and Burke playing full stop is bad management of the current resources he's got.

Unfortunately until the squad is changed to suit his preference of formation he needs to play with the hand he's got and try and get the best out of them.

We need to start with Brewster and McBurnie up top let them form a partnership rather than chopping and changing all the time

Seen alot of people say why aren’t we playing a back 5 as thats what our players are suited too:
1) most were literally begging us to try something new when it clearly wasn’t working with the 5
2) (im not comparing slav to pep) everyone was saying how peps way of football wouldn’t work in England but you have to just persist with it as eventually it’ll click. There’ll be teething problems no doubt and we’ll concede the odd goal from overplaying at the back but it’s part of the process of a new system

If we were still in league one I’d be unhappy but seeing as we have had 4 brilliant seasons out of 5, I’m more that happy to give Slav the time to sort it.

Or he spent over £150m on full backs alone to make it work.

If Slav wants to play 433/4231 surely wide attackers should be a priority in the transfer market. But until he has them he's got to try and get the best out of what he's got.

But he can’t get in 11 new players. The current players will have to learn the system. These are professional footballers. They’ll have had to play in a back 4 at some point

The defence is not an issue for me whether it's a 4/3/5 whatever way. Especially with Davies coming in as well. It's the attacking setup and personnel we have. Burke, enough said. And Brewster playing as basically a second full back.

I think we desperately need a winger, preferably two. I don’t understand why we haven’t tried out Ty smith on the wing

I agree, especially if Slav wants a 433/4231 as he seems to prefer. If he wants the wide attackers with the players we have a 523/343 would suit better IMO, the wing backs would occupy the width and allow the wide attackers to play narrowed which would suit them better.

It’s not “all the time” it’s two matches and he said himself he has to see what works

He needs to be allowed to do things his way and it'll take time. The first two team selections and performances have looked like the type you get in pre-season, which isn't entirely surprising considering we didn't really have one.

With that being said, it is strange that he had success with Watford playing a back three and a 4-4-2 diamond, but is seemingly insistent on a back four and wingers here.

Oh I wish pinchy was still here.

If we need old traffic cone we have fell further than I thought.

I also don't get this "players are used to a formation" are we saying now that professional football players can't adapt?

Or are we saying that this squad as it stands can only ever play in a wilder formation forever?

We have to give him time it's as simple as that. He's had to make do with the players he's got upto now and of course you have to experiment.
The glaring hole is midfield as we all know. Particularly wingers and someone in the CAM role.

I'd rather see a 3-1-3-1-2 or 3-1-3-2-1 formation. Get more bodies in the midfield. Overlapping wingers/wingbacks? or maybe just keep the wingbacks as LB/RB. Either Berge or Bash in a CDM. As for the other positions, it's no good just shoving loads of strikers on in midfield roles, as we have been doing.

Personally think we should get some of these younger lads a try, (more than a EFL cup game) and obviously get an attacking midfielder in (or two) who can drive that ball past players and assist goals for the strikers, and not having to rely on the strikers we currently have, having to manufacture something in midfield before they can get into the box.

Only been a few games thus far and we only had 2 pre season and so far no new signings.

SJ wants to do things his way too and this is right. No point him trying to play a way he doesn't want to.

However slightly surprised that we have played 4 at the back and not 3 given our current squad. It gives us the defensive and offensive quality that this team know well.
But at the same time this team need to adapt to the way he wants so I suspect that whilst we may be thinking a bit square pegs round holes a bit, it might not be for that long and the more the team gets used to it the better.

Last night again wasn't great but we didn't ever look like losing I felt. Looking back at the highlights you also realise that decision making in some situations could easily have led to a goal. McGoldrick should have scored too but would have been incorrectly ruled out though.

West Brom could be a bit early for us, we may have a bad time there but then again this is the championship. Viera and Davies probably through the door and things might start to click....

I think we need to accept that there's going to be a changing of the guard this season where based on last night's comments that there will be some who will be on the outer very shortly. That may well mean that we don't really threaten the top of the table this season.

Slav doesn't have the luxury that Wilder did where in League One you don't have duff players on long contracts, you can pay them up and bomb them out if you need to. Nobody of sane mind would pay a transfer fee for some of our squad, many have delivered memories that will last a lifetime but time's now up.

Not one player last night was one of his. Norwood is the only one he's had before and while he was the main man here, he was an also ran at Fulham. We need some new faces, some energy and a killer instinct that's been lacking for a long time in the socialist regime that's been in charge where aspiration, creativity and individuality was frowned upon.

were crying out for legs and creativity in midfield as jj blade says we need 3 more midfielders to come in before the transfer window closes looking like viera is one and garner a possibility as well but probably still need 1 more especially if berge goes which i think he will
