Slav could have been good for us if the board had backed him, which they didn't. His biggest problem was that he picked a formation but didn't have the players to play it. He stubbornly stuck with it and we suffered poor results. He was sacked as a result.

Hecky went back to the tried and tested formation and tactics that we did have the players for, and the results turned around. The problem now is that teams have figured out how to stop it, our midfield isn't good enough to play in it, and Hecky is stubbornly sticking with it and we are suffering poor results. There's a pattern here but I fear the conclusion won't happen until next season when it's too late and the permanent damage is done.

We're 2nd in the league and in the quarter final of the fa cup

If you'd said playoffs and a good cup run at the start of the season, 99% on here would have taken it....

Yes, I would've, but not if someone told me that we were 10bpoints clear of 3rd with a game in hand, but tossed that advantage away down to 4 points and were playing badly week in, week out. Would you have told them that too or just the bit that sounded good?

Hecky and the management team are the reason we are in 2nd and they have to take the blame for the recent poor run

The point of the original post is that sacking them now, as a lot of people are suggesting, would be ridiculous

The pre existing structure, the senior players and Ndiaye are the reason we are second

What sort of defeat have you got in mind?

1-0, 3-2, 3-0....... maybe penalties?

We need Blackburn to beat us again. But no way will that happen

Don't really care .... day out with the lads watching my team, its not all about winning otherwise we all may as well just support man city

I don't really care if we get to the Premier league either, it's a very dull unbalanced league where mid table mediocrity for us would be a great result

I might have some sympathy for that view if promotion wasn't as vital for the club's future as it is

Not heckys fault we've paid huge wages to shite players is it .... he didn't sign brewster, berge or mcburnie and I don't this he would have if he'd been in charge... his transfer record is very good with limited resources

PH has done nothing that is Unique to PH ….

I would hazard a guess most of us could have taken over from Slav and reverted back to the old tactics and formation and seen an up turn in results.

I felt that had we gone long term on the Slav project and backed him then we would have changed the whole culture of the club for the better and turned us from bridesmaids in to the occasional bride.

However we need to take some short term pain in order for that to happen… which we weren’t willing to take.

We are now going to have to take some long term pain with an absolutely clueless manager who, outside of Wilders tactics, has no clue what to do.

So was Wilders! It’s when he got his hands on the big money that the problems started.

It's the kind of short termism that's plagued us largely for decades.
How we overcome that is beyond my capability though a more courageous approach would for me be the default position.
Half of me thinks we'd be potentially better entertained and more competitive in the Championship,
the other half eager for a rerun of our first Prem season watching us compete with the likes of Man U when I was regularly encouraged out of my seat as reaction to some of the scintillating footy we played.
Burnley at home was the last time I felt both entertained and excited by the prospect of promotion with conviction so dominant were we in that 2nd half.
I can't make every game but even as a season ticket holder I can make better use of the £50 extra it costs to go to games.
Its meant to be entertainment but too often I am relieved by the narrow victory or salvaged draw coming away ambivalent.
Hecky substitutions baffle me.All that youth and enthusiasm on the bench and as much as I love Billy, why would he be ahead of a driving force , particularly in Doyle.
Not a clue.
It's never a simple fix, investment a game changer.
It looked like we were truly turning a corner until Wilder's demise.I can see some parallels now without knowing the root causes.
The definition of insanity is ,as has been pointed out by many here, repeatedly doing the same things and expecting different outcomes.Chuffin mad.
I feel like I'm in an Aston Martin showroom without a hope in hell of ever affording one, so I make do with a second hand Jag and hope I look impressive, for now, deludedly perhaps believing one day I'll own outright a Vantage Volante.
Do I cut my cloth accordingly, accept my financial position or risk everything and end up ultimately broke and broken.
I'm a glass half full usually with the caviat that I still like to get a pint from a half pint pot.
Am I your archetypal Blade, mirroring that mindset I wonder.
If so a fresh perspective is necessary for future long term prospects.
Do fans drive a club or are we entitled to expect the reverse.?
More questions than answers.
Fortunately the Pubs open soon and it's my day off so I'll go and find some fresh perspective in a few pints of neck oil and prepare some spare undies for the next 90 odd minute roller coaster.
Come on Ecky, wear ya testicles on the outside of your kecks.
Promotions are meant to be exciting 👍🤔🥳

We aren’t getting promoted 😂

I was pissed off when we sacked Slav. It was clearly a two year project for him to change it around. I would have sold Berge, McBurnie and Brewster and given the money to Slav buy the players he needed. He would have changed the culture at the club, the style of play and mentality. I could have stood for two years of change if you could clearly see it changing for the better on the pitch. Once again the Board let the fans and a Manager down. To go for the cheapo option which will cost us more money incidentally than if we’d have kept Slav.

We don't have the players to play the formation he wants to play. It's literally the reason he flopped here.

Too little too late, but it was actually Jokanovic that reverted to 3 at the back during which we went on an undefeated run (for two games lol!)

I do wonder if his first season should have just been a write off while the players learned his formation/tactics, but Prince wanted an immediate return whilst signing no new players and that obviously wasn't going to happen with Jokanovic.

The problem we have no is one we've had since JOC got injured - no overlapping centre backs to make up for a flat 3 midfield. There's just a massive disconnection between midfield and the two forwards.

At the start of the season it seemed like Berge (or McAtee) was playing further forward so it was actually a midfield 2 and 3 up front with either Berge or McAtee and Ndiaye either side of the striker or as a no.10. Why we stopped that I don't know, injuries? Playing it safe with such a lead over second?

Yep finally admitted to himself he didn’t have the players to play the way he wanted them to so resorted back to a Wilder type line up and tactics, looked decent but it was too late for him and he was gone. Would have been interesting to see him run with those tactics and see where it got him.
