There has been a lot of negative comments and views on our new manager. However just a few issues he has had to face compared with his previous experience in England
1. He was appointed late into the close season .Reduced the amount of time he could influence things
2. He doesn’t have much of “own team “ to support him and to do his own thing
3. He inherited a very poor squad of players ,a lot had been around too long and past their sell past dates and had been set in their ways. Could not switch formations as required
4. Very low confidence in the squad after the last Premiership season
5 No money as the previous guy had spent it all , and owners that have realised that they are in too deep both financially and depth of club management
6. Compared to Watford and Fulham ,lack of London cosmopolitan “Network “ that can provide easier player recruitment and support

He needs to get rid of the flat 3 in midfield it’s a cowards formation.

But other than that what to people expect

we’ve tied his shoes together at the start of a 100m race. No signings (I’m not even counting Davies as it’s borderline gross negligence to have a squad with one player capable of actually playing centre back).

a preseason even a 4 year old could have told you was inadequate.

He’s interested a garbage squad full of losers

he’s been crying out for signings for weeks

You deserve a like for the great avatar alone!

Not sure about the lack of cosmopolitan network. Slav knows this league and has worked abroad of course.

Totally support the manager at present which is more than can be said for the board and players.

Each week he shuffles the same deck of duff cards and tries to play the least worst options.

It’s unusual for a manager to be appointed when a team is riding high. Whatever is going on; and clearly there’s a smell in the air; if we don’t go down and have 5 shots on target per game at least there might be something to hang our hats on.

Thanks ,love the series.
Beginning to think that the Slav appointment was “lazy “ ,a known figure that had success at this level previously without replicating the the other things that brought that success

Watching Raiders of the Lost Ark just now. Poor old Slav is Indiana Jov, fighting oppressors in the Middle East, trying to find the Lost Ark with three mythical midfielders inside that venture forward with speed and cunning.

poor management though continually playing norwood and fleck when we can all see their not performing i thought slav had more savvy than that at this rate hecky will be back by october

I agree. The manager should be organizing and motivating this team much better than he is.
They are low on effort and look disinterested.

I feel sorry for Slav and really do think he's been conned by the club. That said, his decision to continue picking Fleck, Norwood and Berge as his midfield is entirely his fault when they've been crap all season. That's on him.

In a recent interview he said he's not the type to shout in the dressing room, as players should know when they've played poorly so him saying it won't change that. This for me is a big issue. Wilder played the nicey, nicey I'm your mate role and his loyalty to his players led to him continuing to pick the same players and believing in them and not being willing to make changes to selections and tactics.

We need an authority figure in the dressing room. Someone to yell at the players. To not just drop them from the starting line up, but the match day squad, or send out on loan if needs be. This squad doesn't need nice. They're crap and they need a ruthless wake up call. Nicey nicey in the dressing room will only help in relegating us. To a certain extent Billy could do with pulling his finger out too as captain. Hold a team meeting and bollock the players as captain.

Aka the Adkins dilemma

And the options of an alternate midfield are….. a headless chicken from Forest a wing back from Derby a 33/4 year old Utility player who found his niche as a right sided overlapping.centre back( who also never puts less than 100% in ) A misfit from QPR plus a group of kids who aren’t good enough to play at this level consistently ..,,there you go

A bad work man...
United have had much worse squads and managers have got much more out of them. He's looking very much like a cheque book manage who can't get much out of players when he has to actually manage them. Stevie Wonder could have got that at Watford and Fulham sides promoted. He's having to organise and motivate people now and is looking like the reincarnation of Bryan Robson. Why the United board thought this was a good idea is anyone's guess? It looks very much like get the big name to shut the fans up. As for HRH and the board: I told you the emperor had no clothes a long time ago.

He inherited a fairly decent squad just stuck to a system he’s not familiar with. The same squad were nearly in Europe 18 months ago. A lot of managers would be happy to take a squad like we’ve got! Luton for one

Same squad that according to Wilder had gone as far as it could and didn’t have quality after the Leicester thrashing last year
Basically on national tv stating he has no confidence in his players
Losing week in week out for 15 months has a massive physical and psychological effect on players
The sooner people wake up and accept it
INDIVIDUALLY AND COLLECTIVELY THIS GROUP OF PLAYERS ARE BROKEN

They are broken 100%. But they’re not bad players and they should be beating Luton

Hi Stegosaurus here,

Wrong man for the job. I've always said Big Sam should have been given it.

We needed ruthlessness

Slav should have got them all in the dressing room on day 1 and said

“Right, I’m going for a shit, when I come back anyone not up for the fight should have fucked off, that include you pretty boy, you popadum hands and the 2 midgets in midfield, and hold that fuckin idiots hand on the way out, cos £23m pound man will want to go but will keep walking into the wall an missing the door, fuck sake”

Then brought Prince down and pointed out that unless he wants to enter the 5-a-side league we need a good half dozen new faces

He does however seem to have come in and bought into the negative loosing mindset CW spent millions creating before setting off into the sunset trousering enough wedge to buy a new centre back

Proper fucked up shit this.

United fans summed up in one thread
He’s our present manager, and we should back him, as should the players, and the owners who apparently made promises, of new faces in the team.Let’s hope he can come good.
The worry is, if he doesn’t get the backing of bringing some of his own picks to come into the team, is he the manager for a relegation dog fight.
The present team at the moment are seriously underperforming, and the manager has to take some responsibility for that.Granted they are no world beaters, but they are better than this.Under Hecky they won 3 out of their last 6, and many of them mullered the championship, when they were in it.
A lot of people are saying the likes of Egan, Baldock, Berge,Norwood are shite. They‘re not, and past performances prove this. The question is why are they performing so badly, and if we are stuck with them, with no new faces, Slav must find a way of getting the best out of them.At present, he isn’t.

Thanks ,love the series.

Hindsight eh.

Remember a few weeks ago….the whole fanbase were ecstatic that we showed ambition by bringing in the best manager.

It‘s like saying Man City we’re lazy when they targeted the best manager regards Pep.
or PSG have been really lazy signing Messi…just because he‘s been the best player in the world doesn’t mean he’s the best signing.

The glimmer of hope relates to what Watford and Fulham fans warned us.
They said in the early days things wouldn’t be good because Slav takes time to implement his plans.
However of course you still need tools to implement plans, so let’s see who we sign.

Fair point, hope he succeeds of course in the long term , but Sheffield United are not Watford or Fulham so it’s going to be a hell of a job.

He seems such a bad fit for your club it's unreal. Think you're gonna have to make some major, potentially expensive, changes to make his time work there.

We look like Huddersfield from two years ago.

A pile of players nobody wants, who either can't be arsed or can't do it anymore (I'm sure it's the latter). Huddersfield managed 1 point from 8 games till they sacked the manager they'd only appointed in January and replaced him with an uber-pragmatist who eventually steered them to safety from relegation in the penultimate game.

If he can't get them to perform, and I understand why he's frustrated about the lack of new players who surely we all knew were needed, then it's best he leaves and we can get someone in who can manage and motivate this bunch. Preferably a coach who's able to formulate a game plan without needing to play the ball through midfield.

I agree SJ needs his players in.

If is expected to work with that he has got then he has every right to be pissed off.

He also took time in the past to get things working. This was his first season at Fulham since taking over at the end of December 2015 (team was 18th when he took charge):

Like most of those players that are getting pellets at the moment, Slav hasn’t become a shit manager all of a sudden.

It’s very simple.

We went up with players of a standard not close to premier league level as individuals….collectively and used tactically however they were very effective.
Wilder/Knill take a huge amount of credit for that.
At that time we then had two owners fighting it out and nobody sure what the truth was from Prince has no money to invest and McC wants to get shot….to Prince has money and doesn’t trust McC. Whatever the truth the fact is the same….Prince doesn’t have the money or backing to loan the club monies in advance to get us competitive.
He’s seen Wilder off, and regardless of what he says the monies brought in have more than covered what liabilities were brought into the club. Wilder is now getting blame for signings that he intended to use a specific way, that are now being asked to do something they were never capable of doing!

So simply put, they lost the best man to steady the ship and both get the best out of what we have now, AND thus maintain the future value of the players in the market. We were fucked the minute Wilder left because we never had both the funds or inclination to completely overhaul the squad to one ANY new manager could work with.

They, the board, are solely to blame for what is going to be a relegation this season. He’s tried to be clever, thinks he knows his stuff and trusted completely the wrong people in doing so.
It’s quite frankly incredible that any club could get it so wrong from where we were 18 month ago and there’s something seriously amiss at board level going on here.
