Pigs went for it a citeh, lost 7-0, what a fuckin embarrassment they were, perhaps we should have done the same, so all these no nothing's can praise us for having a go.
They lost
we lost
Whats the difference ?

I kind of agree. I though, as colossal as our defending was in hindsight we should have maybe been a bit more expansive. Easy to say that now but had we done that, chances are we'd have come unstuck earlier than we did. A very large part of the reason Manchester were so toothless is because how we were playing made them so. Had we opened up, they'd have picked us open for sure.

In fairness, I think the game plan was to soak it up and then have good go in the last 15/20 mins. Baxter, Done and Adams were warming up when JayMac got crocked which scuppered that. Then I think he was switching back to 442 when Sammon got crocked which, again, scuppered another attempt at a sub with attacking intent.

I remember Leeds going there as a league one club , to a much better man utd side, setting up defensively as we did , but with the occasional foray to ease the pressure and offer some hope , and on the day , got the break on their 4th of 5 attacks in 90 minutes
We never gave our selves that hope of scoring , if you dont smash you cant grab
had we had one moment when DeGea was stretched , Id be happier, but he could have sat in an armchair doing Sudukos
That was against a completely different side. It has no relevance to Saturday. If I remember rightly Fergie played the kids in that game.

One has to be slaughtered to listen to TalkSport Radio.

Mk dons thrapped em 4-0 when they were in league one

If Hammond hadn't made that tackle in the last minute would they still be slagging us off for a 0-0 at Old Trafford? I know you always run that risk with a backs to the wall approach but I think it's quite easy to forget just how shit we normally are.

How much would we have got for a replay?

No problems with not going for the win, even after Collins won some headers in the last minute or two and showed they were vulnerable. If we'd gone earlier we could easily have been picked off.

Also a draw might have been a better result than a win: Get them to the Lane, charge them $200 or ¥1000 a ticket, and win the game there.

A fiver? maybe a tenner at a push but most of the money will have gone to McCabe anyway.

Listening to talksport drive on way home with Adrian Durham and Darren gough

Quite shocked in one way not in another to hear that sufc are getting slagged off by Adrian for their tactics and not having a go at Manchester United

Also slagged us of for actually having a go at Peterborough ( he is a posh fan) as they play expansive football and look for goals sort of implying we got our game plans the wrong way round for the two games. To be fair when a blades fan called the programme and said he thought the game plan should have been tight until half time then start to go for it a bit as the second half went on they sort of agreed .
Don't get me wrong I would love to have seen what would have happened if we had played further up the field but we didn't .
They said they thought it was rather sad that sufc clearly cared more about the replay and the money than beating Man U on the day .

It just shocked me that a team struggling for form in league 1 should be heavily criticised trying to contain a team worth hundreds of millions ( albeit a poor Man U side by previous teams) .
I can see their point in a way but as radio pundits one who was a cricketer their opinion is we should have had a right go at Man U.

Sufc the team everyone loves to hate ?? OR bang on criticism ??

Talk Shit. I loathe that channel.

True but LVG underestimated L1 teams at that point and played a weak team. Quite a few of those who played that night haven't featured much since. And MKD had Dele Alli.

LVG knew we play well in cups and played a strong side. He knew he couldn't lose that game. It was awful to watch for a neutral or a Man U fan but he's that type of manager. Dominate possession, play in the opponents half and try to work openings without over committing. Grind teams down, like the old Italian teams did.

I'm a talk sport listener and that particular show is my least favourite on there. I can accept highly opinionated punditry if there is any genuine football knowledge and sense behind it.

All those two do is come up with polar opposite controversial opinions. Durham always takes one side and Gough always takes the other. It's completely contrived in such a way to get people calling up to argue with them.

I'm more of a Hawksbee and Jacobs man. Far more lighthearted and balanced. Much easier to listen to than the rubbish that follows it. I tend to switch it off.

Can't believe there's a 4 page thread on something Durham's said on Talksport! Wind up merchant and provoking this sort of reaction is obviously his aim. Nothing to bother about. Personally I find they can be pretty funny at times as long as you remember Durham obviously doesn't genuinely hold 90% of the opinions he peddles.

Usual format is a headline story at the start where Durham gives his "opinion" and Gough happens to hold the exact opposite view.

Of course their idiots, because of course any teams from championship bottom 8 & below would adopt similar tactics we were their for a draw & its almost like them on talksport lot have forgotten who we had in opposition. Man Utd £240m+ starting 11 included best gk in world alongside neuer. 2 world cup winners, a world cup semi finalist, the England captain & had such strength in depth can sub a 40m player for 30m summer signing

The media are hating on SUFC again - but this time it's because from their point of view we failed in our most important task
- which was to be the final nail in Van Gaal's coffin.
They are coiled like vipers ready to whip themselves into a frenzy of speculation while while the special one whom they love more than any other waits patiently in the wings.
Hammond's error delayed their coronation party by another week and all that is left is to spit bile at those upstarts from Yorkshire who claim to be the original United.

Talk sport / radio Sheffield? Same garbage different wavelength. I cannot abide Adrian Durrans, he spouts controversial cap to provoke calls. He reminds me of Paul Walker, both used to be good and then they started to believe thier own publicity and adopt a really arrogant big man personality.

As for "used to live in Blackpool drippy Ian" and thier ilk, they seem to think because they call in every night they now are official RS pundits. FH needs canning it is a tired parody of a show.

I do concurrc with the post above, if you want to hear sharp incisive radio, h&j 1pm on a weekday on Talk sport is a shining beacon in a sea of mediocrity. Staton et al could learn much by listening to this.

Me and my brothers love Football Heaven.

All except the presenters, they are all c**ts

For one reason or another, Premiership teams usually win the replays of cup-ties against the lower division side; therefore the idea of hanging on for a draw becomes even less sensible......in the end we would have had to score one goal or more to progress in the Cup.

The best chance of our winning that tie was when it was still 0-0 after 70 minutes........that is when we should have started attacking and brought on JCR &/or Adams.

Who said, "the best form of defence is attack" was it Adrian Heath or was it Bill Shankly?

Talksport is a boring, one dimensional radio station. It should be called Talkpremier leaguefootballallday.
I've listened in the morning turned the radio off, been to work all day, turned radio back on and they're still talking about the same worn out topic (prem top 4). Give me 5 live any day of the week.

Vanarama, Vanarama, Vanarama

Talksport used to be good when my health is not in question ruled the mid morning airwaves....

i think hes spot on
Man yoo were dire and we just tried to defend for the full game

If we had had a go we might have won as it is we lost no matter the difference in wage bills
We quitely slipped out the cup without being brave enough to have a go

Doesnt fill me with pride to be honest

It depends what the desired outcome was. It was only the 3rd round, not the quarter-final, so we could easily have gone out in the next round to a small crowd of 1,500.

However, 30-odd thousand at BL would have given us more cash and a TV broadcast. So if it was a reply then tactics were right, but failed.

If we actually wanted to progress then what would be the best chance? 0-0 with 15 mins to go at OT or 0-0 with 90 mins to go at BL? For me its the former and we should have gone for it. We may have conceded 2 goals, but Man Utd aren't Man City, LVG would have been happy to sit back, so would we, so it would have been knockabout til the final whistle. Not a surging Man City looking to score 8.

The Gough cricket analagy would be a ODI v Australia. 8 wickets down and the tailenders come in and steady the ship. But they are padding 1's and 2's and the run rate is creaping up. 4 overs to go and we need 40 runs. 10 an over, to win, at some point they have to swing the bat for a 4 or 6, but they don't. Eventually they both get out and we lose the match. They should have swung the bat.

Never listened to that show on talksport but the host sounds like a Barney/Lendegoey (Lenners) type character.

We could have gone for it a bit more and might have been rewarded but on the balance of probabilities, I think it’s more likely we’d have been picked off. Man U’s biggest weakness is their inability to break down teams who come and park the bus. They’re not too bad defensively. So it made sense for us to exploit that. Park the bus, frustrate them and their fans etc. The only thing I’d have liked to see from a “going for it” point of view was for either Adams or JCR to come on at some point. Still play with men behind the ball but having one pacey player who can get on the ball and run at defenders might have just given them something to think about. Coutts tends to tire as games wear on so JCR for Coutts on about 70 minutes would have been my change. I’m thinking of how he caused Spurs problems at their place last season.

But our defence needs Basham, Hammond and probably Woolford to protect it. That’s the only time we look solid and I can’t fault Adkins at all for not committing too many bodies forward. But for a very late mistake we’d have taken them back to the lane and that would have been an achievement.

I don't think we intended to attack as little as we did. They of course played a very possession-heavy game, and when we did have the ball we were having to build from deep. Their best player was Smalling who completely snuffed out any attempt we made to get it forward and really bossed Billy and Sammon of course. In advanced areas the crossing wasn't good enough so no attacks could be recycled and we were again on the defensive. Of course it made sense given their problems scoring for us to generally be quite defensive, but I certainly think Adkins wanted to attack more, the game just didn't pan out that way.

I think what is more annoying is that the team looked so comfortable all game, and we were again undone by a stupid mistake. The game was incredibly reminiscent of Spurs last season, only Manchester Utd were far worse and created even less. This is why I don't buy the 'we deserved a replay' line. We made a mistake, got punished, so we deserved nothing. That's football.
