One of those propositions, reading between the lines if i may itsinyer: buy sharp, sell done,( no bench warming there), use incoming cash for c/b's and the like. Only a thought.

It's a possibility, but as we're meant to be focussed on promotion this term retaining the services of our best players would be a sign of our intent. Done and Murphy are currently two players we need to help us achieve that goal.

Absolute twaddle.

You assume that signing Sharp is a good idea. If it happens, we will see. The recent evidence is not compelling, to say the least. You then go on to make a sweeping general point based on a premise that you take as read. Some of us beg to differ.

Should we have kept hold of Ironside, Whitehouse, The lad who played in midfield with Whitehouse who's done so well I've forgotten his name, Chappell and the countless other 'nearly' boys? There comes a time when you have to make a judgement, unless you want dozens of sub-standard thirty year old local heroes all waiting to be "given a run.."

There is no magic about 'home-grown". You've either got talent or you haven't. You can't wish a player talent.

Bladey Bladey nonsense lives on. Nothing changes in S2...

You clearly have your opinion on the return of Sharp which I do agree with to an extent. I just don't think you can compare Sharp to any of the above names though......Sharp has had a successful career, unfortunately for us we seem to be the only club he has really struggled at. I'm good fans with a Leeds fan and he's a massive fans favourite there, hopefully he can replicate his previous stint in league one.

It will work this time.

He's never had a good crack for SUFC. He was always in Beattie's shadow and was too young to break in the first time around.

If anybody can get the best out of him it's Nigel Adkins:
Scunthorpe 53 in 82 games
Southampton 9 in 17

My main concern is that he has slowed down a bit recently. Mainly because Leeds are shit?!?!

At Doncaster he got 40 in 82.

Can those who wants Sharp to sign suggest a balanced first eleven with him starting? Would we need any specific other signings to make the team strong enough?

Maybe we're going 2 upfront with 2 different partnerships like Akinbiyi/Kabba and Shipperley/Webber?

Howard
Freeman CB CB Harris
Done Basham Coutts Murphy
Sharp Higdon

Howard
Freeman CB CB Harris
Done Basham Coutts Murphy
Adams McNulty
The good thing is - Adams and Done can play wide or upfront. McNulty and Sharp would probably never see the pitch at the same time.

I'd say Adams is better from a flank or behind the striker(s) and McNulty aint good enough. So I think the latter will leave, and we'll bring in both Sharp and another striker. Which would see lots of goals IMO.

Don't know if he's really ITK but Jonathan Buchan tweeted this morning "I understand SUFC interest in Sharp is legit"

He isn't. RS, Shields, Biggs et al are a bunch of local hacks. Such people thrive on an illusion of self-importance. They're all the same.

They are local hacks who undoubtedly have a bigger sense of self importance than they deserve, BUT if you don't think they have a bit of inside knowledge at clubs they spend plenty of time around, you're deluding yourself.

Do you think "interest in Sharp is legit" is some sort of revelatory scoop? Really?

Not convinced he's what we need. We're a slow enough team as it is and I think we already have our "fox in the box" in Done.

I think we need a different type of striker, otherwise it will limit our ability to change things.

This is great news now get the deal done. I don't care about the minority of negative opinions. This is just what we need, a penalty box predator.

I actually had Done down as a penalty box predator

He was around the 4th highest scorer in the division last season, despite missing a number of games towards the end. I hope he isn't going anywhere

If the club is serious about promotion, which we supposedly are and if there is no pressure to sell, then Done has to be at our club next season

Please excuse me while I double check that I did indeed say that.

....

Nope, no I didn't.

A genuine 4-3-3 with Done, Sharp and Murphy up front. Plenty of goals in that lot.
Sharp to stay central and do what he's good at with Done and Murphy providing the pace and creativity he possibly lacks.
A solid midfield three behind them with two box-to-box midfielders and a strong holding midfielder.
Maybe Basham, Coutts and Wallace unless we can sign an improvement.
Overlapping full backs given license to get forward in that system. Two from Brayford, Freeman, Harris and Woolford.
Just need two strong centre backs as everyone knows and we're not far off a very good team at this level.

Kin ell I know that Chris Basham is good but 3 positions, fk me! ;)

Local hacks are given such information as the club want them to have; nothing more. They are rapidly becoming redundant as a source of original information.

I think you need give us your season ticket seat so when Sharp does score his 20th goal of the season we can come and gloat. ;).........that particular season Sharp had no consistency changing from one team to the next. In hopefully League One's best teams next season Sharp should score goals, if he doesn't god knows where his career will end up.

Ey up there! Someone's having a bad day at the office! Which part is "Twaddle"? I was voicing my opinion which I believe is the Forums core purpose. Which you then went to aggressively shoot down! If it is only your opinion and views you want to hear then I advise sitting there recording yourself with a 90's talk boy repeatedly clicking rewind and play. I think we should sign him due to the league we are in and the track record in this league, similarly to why we have hire our manager who also likes him. Have you discussed this managerial appointment with yourself and come out with something negative as well?

There is no magic about "home grown" however for me personally seeing a young local lad smash in a couple and do well is slightly more satisfying than a man we have bought in however the end result of the team successful is obviously the main thing I look at.

I understand your point about having a player sat there not playing...like say EVERY PREMIER LEAGUE TEAM! They do this little thing called loaning them out and watching them progress through teams before finding themselves at a level where they can get back into their parent club.

The fact within 2 seasons of us selling him to Scunny we were buying him back for 2 million and within 2 years after that he was smashing goals in for Donny in the championship (40 goals in 3 seasons). Midway through this scoring spell Blades were getting themselves relegated to the 3 tier of English football.

Is this all "Absolute Twaddle" too? just a thought Chelsea loaned out Courtois for 3 seasons, had we had done this with Sharp maybe we would have saved ourselves 2 million or demanded a higher transfer fee.

Sorry Pinchy but if you are going to try and make people feel small and like their voice isn't relevant or is "Absolute Twaddle" and my statements are "sweeping" you will receive facts figures and reasons for MY OPINIONS!

Totally agree. Think he was originally a left back until Keith Hill asked him to play up front and he goes a scores a hat trick in his first game as a striker and then as you say ends up one of the top scorers in the division . Seems best in a central role but can play wide or in midfield as well. Has pace, and his work ethic and attitude are spot on. We have to keep him surely.

Hmmmnnn

Not convinced by this one - I'm with Pinchers on this bladey blade re-signing thing - not convinced it works too well.
If we get Sharp back in I think it will end just as before - we need more mobility, not less - more pace not more sluggish
Just cannot see him banging in the goals
I can see plenty of offside flags going up, though

somewhat agree but adkins is signing him because everywhere he has gone sharp has been able to bang in the goals for him + he's only 29 not like we are getting a ex blade from retirement home
