Hmmmnnn

Not convinced by this one - I'm with Pinchers on this bladey blade re-signing thing - not convinced it works too well.
If we get Sharp back in I think it will end just as before - we need more mobility, not less - more pace not more sluggish
Just cannot see him banging in the goals
I can see plenty of offside flags going up, though

Said exactly the same in my post #24 Ken. If BS had a decent pair of pins he'd be playing for Bayern Munich, as things stand he's called a fox in the box, an ageing predator who'll get battered and dispossessed by uncompromising defenders.

Billy never had great pace and I certainly don't think he's necessarily lost any.

Granted, he's not exactly been in the goals in the last couple of years, but he's been playing in invariably struggling sides and in a division above.

He'll score plenty in this division.

You didn't already know that we were interested in Sharp?...

I did.

no I wasn't ITK that we were officially interested, I only suspected from the evasive "he's a Leeds player at the moment" comments.

I think you need give us your season ticket seat so when Sharp does score his 20th goal of the season we can come and gloat. ;).........that particular season Sharp had no consistency changing from one team to the next. In hopefully League One's best teams next season Sharp should score goals, if he doesn't god knows where his career will end up.

I won't be able to mate. I've sent it back in protest at signing Sharp...

Not really. As I've said elsewhere I'm backing the manager's judgement. His record entitles him to a free rein as far as I'm concerned. I just hope the player is the same BS who played for him before. I think there's enough evidence to the contrary to be of concern.

Managers do have blind spots with certain players don't they? Ol' Big Nose always went on for years about Horsfield. Trouble was, he was past it by the time we got him.

At some point I think the seed was sown that Billy represented some kind of lower league Robbie Fowler. The persistence these flag-wavers reveal would be admirable if it wasn't for the fact that it's a story that has gathered a head of misleading steam in support of the messiah returning home to his own turf to satisfy the adoring throng with his exploits of daring-do that seem to satisfy some kind of archaic need worthy of Edgar Rice Burroughs. If only life were as uncomplicated.....

As with Pinchy, Adkins has my support. I hope he manages to get our underachievers into shape and we finally turn that elusive corner. It's been a long, long time, and I'm up to here with life in this poxiest of divisions. So close yet so far, that's how it seems in this Division, and I want the Prince to continue to show the resolve he's displayed so far. By picking Adkins we've probably got the best manager there is for a club in our position. As an addition to that, for a club with our potential, at least now that the club appear to be showing over-due ambition.

i really don't get the clamour for this guy.

other than that spell at Doncaster and an OK 10 half season at Southampton he's done absolutely nothing since his Scunny days almost 10 years ago
He's not managed to hold down a starting place at any of his recent clubs
We already have 2 other players who play the exact same role as him and arguably do it better
His career currently seems to be in the middle of a huge downward spiral, and given he's 30 next year he's only going to further deteriorate in ability
He'll probably be on a sizable wage

i'm happy to trust Adkins and i'd love if this works out and he comes here and fires us to promotion but i really am struggling to muster any positive vibes about this signing. there's huge question marks over his ability and even if he is good enough he is just not the sort of striker that we need (unless either McNulty or Done are being shipped out in which case this would be a bit more understandable)

Local hacks are given such information as the club want them to have; nothing more. They are rapidly becoming redundant as a source of original information.

I think if you reckon journalists rely solely on contacts at the clubs and nothing more, you're mistaken. The reality is that players, via their agents, will get messages out that they consider in their own best interests - which may not always align with the club's. Look at De Girolamo as a prime example of that.

He was given a long-term contract at Southampton and them getting to the Premier League messed things up for him. He's not PL standard at all. He's Championship standard though. If Southampton had never got promoted, I imagine he would've had a fruitful few years there

I actually had Done down as a penalty box predator

He was around the 4th highest scorer in the division last season, despite missing a number of games towards the end. I hope he isn't going anywhere

If the club is serious about promotion, which we supposedly are and if there is no pressure to sell, then Done has to be at our club next season

Agree on everything except the penalty box predator bit. I don't see Done that way. He might have an eye for goal but he's different.

I agree Billy did nothing for me in blades shirt but his record under NA can't be knocked (some players react better to different manager's ) as for the CB issue maybe Nigel has come up with a plan for TK and Collins has impressed him

I hope and believe that NA thinks we need better than those two!

Agreed but he did say all started with a clean sheet, maybe he has had a better reaction than clough got ??? I too hope he gets 2 bullish CB, s

I'm beginning to see a plan emerging.....Billy may no longer possess the 'blistering pace' that once compared him to football's finest, but if he can no longer keep up with play at least he'll be able to keep an eye on the new pitch, ensuring that it's bedding down nicely and thus provide NA with an in-depth Desso update. At a million plus a pop having our own groundsman on match-day seems to be one of those penny-dropping ideas that might just give us the edge we've been missing.

And should Bill be stuck on the bench he can shout out to those who are running about to make sure they treat our new surface with the respect it deserves.....
old Nigel is cannier than I thought, it's all falling into place, everyone, even bullet Billy, has a role to play. Turf attendant to the Prince, I mean, there are worse jobs aren't there?
