So the rumour that we're looking to buy two brick-built shithouses for centre backs has gone to the back burner?

Just to clarify if this signing goes through which I hope it does. We will have bought back our own home grown talent twice at a cost of £1'750 000. If there was ever a wake up call to keep hold of home grown talent and not sell a kid for 100k to Scunthorpe when he's still learning the game then this is surely it!

I don't think we need Billy.

It's defenders we need.

I still don't think the sale of Sharp was that crazy. We needed Championship-ready players for the promotion push in summer 2005, and he was never going to really challenge the Kabba, Webber, Shipps of this world at that stage of his career. Nor would he have wanted to wait much longer for regular first team football. Had he stayed, he'd probably have had a few cup appearances that season, followed by bugger all appearances in the Premier League.

Our greatest mistake on the whole Billy Sharp front was forking out around £2m to bring him back. A nonsense deal at the time.

We only did it to stop him going to our neighbours.

Madness, considering how wank hes been for us. Hope he makes me eat my words but this signing doesnt get me excited in the slightest

Incidentally, Yorkshire Post reporter Phil Hay says Sharp is training with Leeds this morning, and his sources say no fee agreed.

Absolute twaddle.

You assume that signing Sharp is a good idea. If it happens, we will see. The recent evidence is not compelling, to say the least. You then go on to make a sweeping general point based on a premise that you take as read. Some of us beg to differ.

Should we have kept hold of Ironside, Whitehouse, The lad who played in midfield with Whitehouse who's done so well I've forgotten his name, Chappell and the countless other 'nearly' boys? There comes a time when you have to make a judgement, unless you want dozens of sub-standard thirty year old local heroes all waiting to be "given a run.."

There is no magic about 'home-grown". You've either got talent or you haven't. You can't wish a player talent.

Bladey Bladey nonsense lives on. Nothing changes in S2...

I think the negatives attached to any potential Sharp signing are several - we have good forwards in Done, Adams, and McNulty, by purchasing Sharp the challenge for one, at most two up front, is severely reduced. Done should be a shoe-in, not someone who is relegated to a bench warming position, and from that we have a set of propositions that should be deeply concerning. Most posters know we need a different type of forward to the set of limited skills that BS brings with him. I saw Billy described as a 'fox in the box' type, great, except for the fact that he's slow, and by the time he gets in the box the play will have returned to our half.

I'm struggling to get an ounce of enthusiasm for BS returning, especially when posters who should know better keep applying a 'prodigal son' script to Sharp's appearance in a red and white shirt. We'll regret this.

I don't either, but we do need a striker. We can sign defenders as well. It's not mutually exclusive and doesn't have to proceed in chronological order.

I'm always amused by "why are we signing a .... when we need a ....?" as though the one precludes the other.

I just don't think we even need a striker like Sharp.

Maybe it will be 3rd time lucky?

No I don't. I hope I'm wrong, though. Unlikely, I know, but there's a first time for everything. :)

Whether good or bad, though, it doesn't stop us recruiting defenders as well...and we will. NA made it crystal clear yesterday that his priorities are at the polar ends of the pitch.

One of those propositions, reading between the lines if i may itsinyer: buy sharp, sell done,( no bench warming there), use incoming cash for c/b's and the like. Only a thought.

Don't know if he's really ITK but Jonathan Buchan tweeted this morning "I understand SUFC interest in Sharp is legit"

Forgot to say, in my opinion would be lunacy.
