I had the misfortune to be at Newport that day. Didn't Aldridge get 3 or was that a different thrashing? Wasn't there a 6-1? If so I was at that one as well!

Happy Harry is right down there amongst the worst managers we've ever had but he did, to his credit, bring in Sabella and later Bob Hatton.

I think Aldridge did get 3 then. We have never lost 6-1 at Newport!

We once lost 6-1 away at Blackburn a long time ago it was roundabout the time Porterfield left so after Happy Harry's days.
There weren't to many of us there that day. I used to work saturdays at the time but got the day off. I remember wishing i'd gone to work instead

I was there Alien. I think the 'one' was a milestone for Keith Edwards. It was around the same time as that Newport game, I think.

If I'm wrong, apologies; it's my age.

Darren? Silent?

that was the day Edwards got his 200th league goal. It was in 1986, just after McEwan's appointment.

Future Blade Mark Patterson got 3 for Rovers.

Didn't we have those two from Gretna playing that day, Black and Peatrie or something wasn't it ?

Black played (and I think it was his last ever game), Peattie didn't. His last ever game had come in the last game of the previous season when we drew 2-2 at Huddersfield (13/5/85).

The pair of them were our only close season signings after our promotion to Division 2 in 1984. Black was released in the summer of 86 and joined Halifax. We must have given Peattie a 3 year contract (!!) as he hung around until Dec 86 when he decided to go off and manage a sports centre in Scotland and his contract was paid up. Both were forwards and neither ever scored a goal.

I had it in my mind that Peattie was a CB, oh well. As a Sir Keith fan, I remember being peed off at the time that Black was getting picked ahead of him. I presume that must have been one of Sir K's last goals for us.

2nd last. His last was in his last game in the 1-1 draw at Palace on 3/5/86.

Not sure that Black was ever played ahead of Edwards. He partnered KE in the 6-1 Blackburn drubbing and it was Withe who was picked ahead of Edwards at the start of the 85-6 season (Edwards was injured towards the end of 84-5 and was then replaced by Black which is maybe what you are thinking of).

what a man ...................

doesn't even start untill 1st December and he's working like a trojan.

If only McCabe had appointed Sir Clevor Trevor yonks ago !
