of Basham, not Wilder.

He's definitely our new Monty. Want him in the trenches and in the derbies etc. but give him a simple ball out wide and he needs 3 touches to get it out from under his feet before he knocks it inside, surges forward toward the edge of the area before succumbing to a heavy nosebleed resulting in a woeful touch and concession of said ball to an opponent. This forces him to chase back and commit a careless foul somewhere near the final third where he voices his displeasure by doing star jump like demonstrations to the referee.

Good, loyal servant but we need that little bit of extra quality and composure for next season.

I think you need to have a chat with the other Sir Christopher and ask him why Bash is first name on the teamsheet every week.

He's got more skill in his eyelashes than monty had
For all the times bash miscontrols or loses possession he's more than capable of producing a piece of sublime skill

Monty never did that

Because we don't have a better defender right now.

From your original description of him I'm a better defender than Bash. Make your mind up.
My mind is clear. We should to replace him with better quality next season, we have nobody to do that now.

Surely the whole problem of player recruitment is that as a manager you always want better players, but can't always afford them. Basham, liked Monty before him, isn't the best player in the world, and isn't the worst either. I liked Monty, as I like Basham, and if we could find a better player than Basham then I'd be happy to see him replaced, but it won't be easy.

....... it won't be easy depending upon the budget that Sir Chris (Tufty) is given to work with next year ......

I'll just leave this here.

Totally agree.

I always used to put Basham in the limited but a 100% committed/ battler player bracket, like Monty, this is meant as a complement not an insult because every successful team needs a “water carrier”.

But every now and then Basham does a Crueff turn or goes on a run dribbling past a few players.
He’s got much more ability than I originally thought and deserves all the plaudits for winning fans, including me over.

If the Monty from back then played for us now, he'd be the first name on the team sheet

He was excellent in our Prem season

Have a double like.

Even my missus pulled up two blokes we didn't know in the pub on a non match day a few weeks ago, for talking utter bollocks about Basham.

Fucking clueless some people. One bad decision in the final third and they disregard everything he does elsewhere on the pitch.

I've said all year that Bash, Stevens and up front are the places we need to upgrade. Bash is a fantastic squad player but shouldn't start.

If he plays like he did on Friday then I'll gladly take that back

I think Bash often gets unfairly criticised because his style of running often makes him look uncomfortable/clumsy when he’s on the ball but he’s actually a lot better with the ball at his feet than people give him credit for.

He doesn’t caress the ball like Coutts and Flecky but he often glides past two or three players when he comes marauding forward and his tackling/interceptions are probably the strongest part of his game. He was absolutely superb on Monday night and easily MOTM for me. He’s undroppable if he continues to play like that.

He should just never EVER try and shoot!

Indeed he would. But only if we had the same hoof ball meisters in charge.
He wouldn't get on this teams bench, unless we needed a replacement right back when both Baldock and Freeman were indisposed. No place for players who are so desperate in possession of the football the way we play now.

I like him, generally - especially in our system where he has a degree of cover. That said he can be a bit naiive defensively sometimes and for such a big lad he’s not the strongest, nor can he seemingly head the ball away from danger effectively which has put us in the shit on more than a few times.

I can kinda see where the OP is coming from if we’re intent on progressing but the timing of this post is odd to say the least given he had arguably his performance of the season Monday night.
