Decades ago in most cases ,do you have any happy memorys or recollections of supporting sheffield united because it doesnt seem like it ?
Hundreds mate. I love my club. That's why I want to keep it out of the hands of Hoofers and Bassett throwbacks.
John Harris' teams in the late 60s bad early 70s were a joy to behold. Pass and move, skill and creativity. Badger, Addison, Carlin, Woody, TC, Gil Reece, Hodgy, Eddie, David Powell, Salmons. Proper footballers, all. They would be utterly bewildered by a Dinosaur Dave tactical regime.
I also, however, have happy memories of Bassett. I say this quite often, but people choose not to notice. He was the right man at the right time for us. But it was a very particular and relatively short time. He knew one way and one way only. He brought pub football to the professional game. He missed out midfield. The keeper had most assists in his way of "playing". It inevitably had a very short shelf life, because better players and better managers came to terms with it. At that point, and especially when he lost Deane and, to a lesser extent, Agana, Bassett was lost. Proper football had retaken the initiative and his Hoof and Hope had no hope of ever succeeding again. So he left us precisely where he found us, in the lower half of the second division and heading down. His sacking came not a moment too soon.
And yet Muckanettles thinks it's still a viable proposition. Madness. I doubt he'll get a managerial job. He'll fail if he does and end up in non-league football.
As to United players, I'd happily tell Kozluk he was more joke than joker. I'd ask Montgomery just how lucky he feels to have earned a living in football by relentlessly chasing the shadows of better players (I.e. every half-decent midfielder he played against). That's not really contempt, though. I'll have a think and get back to you.
