Lowton
Foster
Brown
Roe
Maguire

Lads from the academy thought to be decent and worth persisting with.

Kingsley James would be another along with Jordan Chappell.

Plus obviously McFazdean and Tez Kennedy are also causing quite a stir.

I would think that we might send Lowton and Brown out on loan but depend on where the club are hoping to finish they could play. If we are looking at midtable I think they would be fine coming in. However I think the board is looking quite a bit higher than that so I think we may see them playing elsewhere this season.

Blackwell on blades player has described him has some "he could have left to rot and has to wake up and realise what his capabilities are"

lets hope blackie can get something out of the lad. he's only 22 and was sold to the prem when he was 17, there has to be some quality there to be seen.

Does anyone know what position he has been playing in recently? cant really see a need for him in midfield. maybe cb cover if we sign someone decent (mawene or demeirt?) to partner morgan.

Of course there's a need in midfield. Unless you are a devotee of mediocrity there is a huge hole in central midfield where a footballer should be!

i thought thats was what we had signed britton for? a devotee of mediocrity i am not, but im also not a dreamer. Monty will be first name on that sheet as far a blackwell is concerned.

He's recently been on the bench at Crewe.

As some others have said, let's wait and see before we write him off.

However, I can recall many footballers who showed precocious talent when young, but who faded out when they reached their late teens or early twenties. Some of these had disappeared from the game entirely by their mid-twenties. Others perhaps became part-time players in the likes of the Unibond league.

Conversely, I can recall a few players who were 'late arrivals', sometimes coming through the non-league or 4th division ranks before reaching the highest level.

Sadly, I can't think of any who showed great early promise - then faded badly - but managed to come back as a 'born-again' top player.

Perhaps someone with better knowledge of players than me will come up with a few names?

FFS if he was making the most of his talent he wouldn't be coming any where near us. Let see what happens, if his attitude still stinks we haven't lost anything.

Er, we've tied up one of what's almost certainly going to be a bagful of bloody loanings again with a complete waster who struggled to get in Crewe's first team. Plymouth fans are highly delighted they've managed to get rid of him.
A steady midfielder from Swansea, a sponsorship deal for a wayward Malteser, a nomark from Palace and a bloke who struggled to get in at Crewe.
And they wonder why the 4 to 5,000 have walked away.

Actually Len 5,000 haven't walked away, we are about 1,000 down on last season but don't let the facts get in the way.

We can sent him back in January, oh and you missed out Simmo.

Or..............

A midfielder rated one of the best at this level, a striker who scored 16 goals last season in a team in the lower reaches of the CCC, an Austrian international and loaned a once promising youngster who has lost his way a bit but the manager knows him and feels he can get the best out of him.

And a Premiership goalkeeper!!

And Len, you spend that much time on here bemoaning everything SUFC does, I can only assume you are in some way involved with the public sector......................

Are you on the dole?

I was a bit concerned when KB described him on Radio Sheffield earlier as being "dangerous in both boxes".

But I guess we've had a few players like that over the years.......

"With Walton and Ertl both able to play in a couple of positions we have more flexibility and can just dip into the loan market when we need to."

*shudders*

So that's both Walton and Ertl consistently played out of their natural position then

You could say all that describes our signings so far len, however......

You can't really argue with Baying's description either, it's whether you see yourself to be an optimist or a pessimist....and don't throw the realist/happy clapper argument into the mix either!!

He's recently been on the bench at Crewe.

The beloved Colin Kazim-Richards spent plenty of time on the bench at Brighton before he came here. Maybe you are being hasty in your judgements for a change, old chap. Its happened before so why couldn't it happen again..?

can't say this signing fills me with excitement...maybe another Hendrie in terms of attitude?

won't judge until i've seen him play a few games though. he's a blade at least while january.

i agree with you, Duncs.

Let's hope this is one of the most inspired signings ever by a manager. We've nowt to lose anyway and as Lister says, he's a Blade until January

It twangs my nut pipes when people call themselves "realists". Of course you consider yourself a realist. Everyone does. It's such a "nothing" statement.

Please accept my apologies TA, wasn't sure what other term to use. You get the jist of what i'm getting at though

Without going all 'Darren', a realist is someone who deals with literal truth or facts.

'He will be crap because he's been on the bench at Crewe' is not realism, neither is 'He was good 5 years ago and will do OK for us', both are possible but both rely on a huge slice of supposition and opinion.

Sometimes, 'I'm just a realist' is justified but I'm with you when simply backing up an opinion with 'I'm a realist' is just as bad as putting someone in the 'clapper' or 'knocker' catagory just because you don't agree with them.

FACT ;)

TWANG, there goes TA's nut pipe again. :)

:) Didn't think you'd actually used the term to describe yourself, SB. I know some people do and I'm sure I've probably used it myself - I just get wound up when people use a term to make themselves sound more intelligent than the person they are talking to, and qualifying a statement with "well, I'm a realist" seems more and more common. Putting "[sic]" in a quote get's my goat, too. It's like saying "check this idiot out! I'm more intelligent though because I spotted the error". Anyway, back on topic...

my mates in sarf london reckon ertl was a legend at palace.. they were a bit miffed to see him leave.. they reckoned he's a 'very sheff utd player' which i took as an insult.. but i knew what they meant.. heh.. :-)

I think we should put Walton on par with Lowton, both got potential, young enough to learn, but like many before (e.g., Laws) may not break through. On the other hand if they can hold their place, having somebody familiar with the squad is a step above a quickie loan deal when the injuries start to pile up.

Steady on, I'm in public sector, we're not all as depressed as this!

Aye, Walts shoring up Fabio's midfield at the Euros, bring it on.
