We were 4th bottom when Adams came in. His failure to win any of his first thirteen games in charge sealed our fate and the fact he did that while alienating our best players was inexcusable. Worst manager in the last 10 years (by a nose from Weir)
Adkins?

We more or less down before Adams came in

I am sorry but we certainly were not, we were in a better position than when Warnock had to rescue us in 1999.

If Gary Speed had stayed we would have made different signings in January and finished about 18th.

Marcus Bent.? FFS!

Back on track, been told Moore out for 2 months, just got to the Lane, source usually reliable.

Oh, and we a very close to the next signing ;)....and the player is here
Come on Treeton, give us all a clue... ;)

Goal keeper I assume?! I won't ask you to divulge a name but you pleased?

Oh just realised its Lundstram! Crap! Dime bar!

I may be an innocent in these matters but I'd have thought that the best chance we'd have of attracting the type of significant investment we need would be to achieve promotion? And to secure a promotion place we'd need to have bought the type of players who could step up to the plate in the Premiership, so substantial figures whichever way you look at it. The Prince, or his minions, has suggested that once in the Premiership he'd be looking to sell his stake in the Blades. So our current owners aren't exactly committed to our future, which may explain their reticence to spend the types of money that an ambitious club needs if it's to make the types of moves that achieve promotion.
If we get promotion we won't need investment. We'll get £100m minimum just for being in the PL.
And based on recent business, our capital value will increase from £50m to £200m if we stay in the PL.

So, the time to invest, is over the next couple of seasons. But it has to be sensible and prudent. Players on the up with potential resale values should make up the majority of the signings. Our investment should be in the recruitment and development of players, not paying large wages for middle of the road journeymen.

It will not be easy and it might not be quick but if we get it right, it's achievable. Do I think we'll achieve it? No idea to be honest but it's got to be worth backing Wilder, surely?

Agree with all of that, what you can't escape though is the fact that even Championship fees have gone through the roof. Sometimes there's likely to be a compromise point - say Wilder really fancies player A, and that player A just happens to be valued at approximately £4-5 million more than our valuation. I can hear the arguments that we should look elsewhere, but player A might be the difference between achieving promotion and remaining in the Championship. As many on here will testify to, advancing to the Championship was meant to see the beginning of larger transfer spends by the Prince. A promise was made and so far we appear to have fallen lucky due to the Walker and Maguire add-on fees that we've accrued. Am I out of order, is the Prince still to make his mark and give Wilder the ammunition he needs to compete at this level? I hope I've misjudged matters. But from all accounts the silence that emanates from the boardroom suggests that we've settled into a lengthy period of cherry-picking from the divisions below us. I'm sure Wilder will pick some gems from divisions 1 and 2, but is it a realistic plan if we're to progress, and more to the point, will it eventually erode the enthusiasm of Wilder as it becomes clear that we simply can't compete in the transfer market. That's the biggest concern in all of this, the fact that our manager may just throw in the towel and look for employment elsewhere.

Could you please try to remember you don't have a sub-editor and put some paragraphs in?

There may well be a time when Wilder spots a player who's going to be expensive. Who knows what will happen? Maybe the board will find the money to sign him, on the basis that if he plays well he'll double his value. If we pay £5m for a striker and he scores 25 in a season in the championship, he'll be worth £10m (unless he's about 35). And the goals could fire us to promotion.

Hope

so.

Would

be

reassuring

to

know

we

can

compete. ;)

So according to various people on various threads, as a result of conversations at the Lane last night, the verdict is:

Moore is out for 3-4 weeks
Moore is out for 2 months
Moore wouldn't comment but 'not as bad as he thought'

Any more?

The Board won't sanction payment for his essential knee op?
