Wilder didn't get everything right, but he got quite a bit right during his tenure which is why we shot from L1 to the PL in a few seasons.
The team he built performed exceptionally well until the pandemic hit.
Simon Jordan doesn't like the fact that Wilder publicly got annoyed at the Prince and owners for a lack of discussion about the plans for next season. Simon Jordan is probably also referring to that in press conferences Wilder last season often criticized the players (Nothing new there, that's his management style and it's worked)
Wilder however should have been a bit more savvy. He actually got a few formal warnings from the Prince for what he said to the press I believe too which further hindered their relationship.
However Simon doesn't know the full picture, nor do most of us.
What I would say is that, that Prince interview after Wilder left was entirely to calm and quell not only the shock of the departure but the animosity to him and the board.
It's well known Wilder had to sign a non-disclosure upon leaving the club, perhaps in connection to this mentioned pay off. You have to wonder why that is.
We haven't been privy to Wilder's side, I don't think we will be for years to come but there is more to it than, "He wasted money and walked out the back door" nonsense.
I genuinely don't think he wanted to leave, this club is the club closest to him.
I do know that the relationship between him and the Prince had really deteriorated, and basically they didn't really see eye to eye in how to move forward, this is probably simplifying too much but that's the crux of it.
One thing that is evident though is that there indeed wasn't much money in the summer for transfers, that the plan was to use the loan market and that there are genuine issues at the training complex that are desperately needing to be addressed. I actually think that part of the reason to remove Slav was because he was expecting more re-inforcements in the Jan window. Our board brought in Slav but thought it would work with most of the same personel.
I still trust Wilder more than the Prince, but at the same time the Prince isnt the worst owner around.
In the post McCabe and now post wilder time though what is the princes achievements?
Allowed finance for some PL signings.
Appointing Slav (seemed good at the time)
Appointing Heckingbottom.
Made this United world setup.
Brought the stadium back under club ownership. (Using the PL money mind you!)
