OK can someone try to explain to me why Simmo, when behind a shot thats clearly heading in the most comfortable place a goalie could want a shot, in his midrift, decides to punch the ball out for a corner instead of catching it? Can someone tell me why he also rolls the ball out to the back four EVERY time he has it. Yes, good for buidling up from the back, but doing it everytime is a give away invites the opposition forwards to shut our backs down. Has he heard of mixing it up? Anyone know why he's decided to stay rooted to his goaline and come to claim nothing?????
All I can offer is that he's the worst keeper we've had since Nicky Johns. Please please please dont offer him a new contract.

To be fair to him for that one, the ball did move quite a lot in the air so it probably caught him out slightly.

I do agree that he's shit though.

Maybe the manager has instructed him to roll the ball out at every opportunity

It's how i play on FIFA :)

Two of our goals this season have come from long Simonsen kicks, so he clearly doesn't do it all the time. One versus Rochdale, and another one that i can't remember the opposition.

On the first point, when struck really hard the ball goes out of shape and then swerves in numerous directions, as was the case on Saturday. The safest course of action in those circumstances is to deflect the ball to safety rather than risk fumbling a catch.

In terms of his distribition, it is generally better to roll it out to an available defender who can then move it further forward with decent passing to retain posession. This is unlike last season when the long kicks gave possession away more times than not. On Saturday he did kick it long sometimes in the second half but again gave away possession more times than not. Ido agree that he should vary it more throughout the game though if only to confuse the opposition on where they should position themselves.

Staying put for centres is probably a reflection on his early season blunders in that aspect of his game. This may be how he is directed by the coaching staff or a lack of confidence in this area.

My own opinion though is that we need a more confident and consistant keeper for next year though, as some of my earlier posts have suggested.

Worst keep I have seen at the lane was a guy called George Long, cast your mind back around October time when this board was full of Simonsen out - and give Long a chance. well you got your wish and it cost us 3 points with which we would now already be promoted (4-4 Home to Exeter) Long was to blame for all 4 goals.

My suggestion (although maybe a long shot) is Yussi Jaaskelainen as he no longer appears to be in favour at Bolton these days. In my opinion he has been one of the top 5 consistant keepers in the premiership of the last decade. A 3 year contract might just tempt him and possibly take us to the premiership.

Failing that, my namesake might be useful in finding us one. Earlier "finds" to his credit were Peter Schmeikle, Jim Leighton and David Seaman to name but a few.

I'd like to know why he didn't come to the edge of his box to claim a hopefully 80 yard punt
Instead leaving it for Lowton who was closed down after running back 40 yards and gave away a throw in
He doesn't inspire confidence does he ?

How do you work that out then? We would have 2 more points so be 1 infront of wendy. Still needing to win last game to go up. Granted it would still be in our hands but still.

No he wasn't. Get to specsavers mate. And how many points has simmo cost us??? a damn site more than 3 pal!

From what I can gather from the responses, Simmo has stopped doing the fundementals ie coming out for crosses, commanding his box, punching instead of catching, just to stop making himself look a pillock again. Even more reason for him to go.

Good call. I'd go with Juicy Jaskerthingy, he's a good keeper.

Simo is Dracula.... he hates crosses, time to get shot, he is a liability and could not catch cold. Sorry but he has made too many errors for me this season.

I don't remember Paddy (for example) commanding his area that well either.
Having said that, I think both the club and Simmo might benefit from a change. His confidence just looks shot, and it's transferring to the defenders in front of him.
I can't see us getting someone like Jaaskelainen - wonder what Howard's like?

For every great save he produces three mistakes. He's had a far more respectable season than last year, but that's the best I can say.

Seems a good bloke but we can surely get a cheaper and younger keeper who has time to learn from his mistakes and accrue value.
