Should we try on Saturday

Our best seasons always include a cup run

Dave Bassett brought the cup run back to the club and chucking the FA Cup away without a fight is a disgusting thing to do

Our last cup run did us no harm, indeed if we had another five games league games left we'd have probably made the play offs

I want a winnable game at home against higher league opposition, millers,Sunderland, winnable with interest for the fans, worry about a bigger pay day against your city or Chelsea later on in the competition

The FA cup is still a fantastic competition. It's not the EFL trophy. Sure we're not going to win it, but let's do all we can to try and get the likes of Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal to the lane.

Win every game you play, without exception, ever..... Except the chekatrade trophy

I wouldn't mind a new photo similar to this one..only in colour ,the only way to get one is to win the fkn thing..no raffle ticket . .no prize.!

UTB !

Rest whoever needs resting. Let the players on the pitch have a go.

Don't we have the stupid Checkatrade shit on Tuesday too? With the forced pick of certain players in that, resting some on Sunday has even more merit, although I expect us to put even less effort into our already lost trophy game than we did in the last outing in it.

I think some posters think you can simply turn the win tap off and assume it will revert to the same setting when you want it to deliver another win.

If we have a decent cup run it can guarantee further funds, more money would help Wilder in his attempts to persuade transfer targets to come to the Blades.

By all means treat a Mickey Mouse cup creation with the contempt it deserves, but let's give the FA Cup a little respect and do our best to win this game. Nothing better than waiting to see who our next opponents are. Keep that winning habit going, it'll serve us well over the season.
Fuck the tin pot cups but have a good pop at the fa cup

When we got promotion in 1989 Basset got us to the 5th round (starting from the 1st round) and a season later, another promotion season, he got us to the Quarters (first time since 1968), so there was no derailing the promotion campaigns there.

In our last promotion season, Colin ensured we got knocked out in the third round and thanks to his meddling, tinkering ways (and playing Akinshitbuy instead of Shipperley) when we had a free run with no cup distractions Mr Wanker nearly f***ed it up for us with a disastrous run in Jan/Feb/Mar.

Let's just make it simple and win all games in front of us (bar the stupid JTP or whatever they are calling it these days). Success breeds success @footballcliche

The FA Cup in my opinion is the only competition other than the league that deserves full respect and I would be disappointed if Wilder didn't show it.

The League Cup came around in the early 60's and the Micky Mouse Cup pretty recently however The FA Cup is the oldest cup competition in the world....It is even older than Sheffield United Football club.

When we used to put our jumpers down in the park as kids we all dreamt of lifting the FA Cup......

Every Sunday we would sit down and watch a fantastic David v Goliath affair live on BBC TV before tuning in for the next rounds draw afterwards!.....

To mess around with this competition would be a complete and utter insult! This competition shouldn't be messed around with, it is sheer magic......It is bigger than any football team or commercial sponsor.

They can send the Junior Blades u9's to the Tin Pot Cup if they want and the reserves to the League Cup however The F.A Cup....First XI please and get as far as we possibly can!

always nice to get games like man utd away in round 3 and get a good sing song if nothing else

and hull at wembley in the semi is still worth the effort

I'd like to see us progress but I'd like to see Wilder make some changes. Could be a good game for Lavery to get some proper game time. It's always exciting waiting for your team to be drawn out of the bag. We could also land someone decent down the line.

I definitely hope Freeman and Coutts are rested. Freeman's played 14 in a row in a demanding position, Coutts has played a lot of games at a higher intensity than he's been used to and he's dropped off a bit in the last two games. I'd say Sharp could do with a rest too, and possibly Duffy. It should be a game for Chapman and Lavery, it's about time they got a proper chance. I'd also like to see us start with a 4-2-3-1, it'd be a good idea to get more match practice playing that system as it's something we'll probably resort to quite often. Also makes our setup less predictable ahead of the Chesterfield game.

Moore

Brown EEL O'Connell Hussey

Basham Whiteman

Scougall Duffy Chapman

Lavery

I think that's about the right balance for the Orient game. Possibly Fleck in for Whiteman.

If any important players are risked in the Grimsby game for the sake of a 5k fine I won't be happy. Could just see a key player getting injured due to us being incredibly cheap. That should be a line up completely made up of youth/back up players without a doubt.

"I'm taking Mrs M for her first game of the season, so not only do we have to win, I'd be grateful if we could all be on our best behaviour !"

Just to be clear, when I said "Me too!" I didn't mean that Mrs M was two-timing him. It is my own domestic executive that I'm taking :)

Realistically- the best we can hope for, is getting to round 3, then getting a top PL at home and going out in a blaze of glory. I think the FA cup is the only trophy I care about for us, due to the great memories of our semi-final run.

What a crock of shit..............hardly as embarrassing as being a Premier League team being humiliated by a 3rd Division Swansea a season later

I'm in the minority

There's only one thing that's important to me and that's promotion. 6 fkin seasons in this division is a joke

Put the reserves out for me

Save the injuries and suspensions for the league

I agree, win all your games and keep winning them regardless.
It's surprising how tiring losing football matches is and it's also surprising how "untiring" winning them is.

Footballers do not get sick of playing when they are playing well, the "tired" bullshit only gets used when teams are losing, it's mental tiredness and stress about losing that causes it not physical tiredness.
You cannot just switch it on and off............we certainly can't

Incredible. A supporter of a Third Division team is looking down his nose at the FA Cup.[/QUOT

It's alright you having an opinion but what's Bert got to say about it?

This thread is ridiculous.
Many of our best moments have been in the FA Cup - in the distant and not so distant past.
The idea that we would not try and at least make the 3rd round is madness.

I agree with this but maybe would also rest Moore and play Ramsdale.

We should, and i would imagine will play a strong side on Sunday. Ramsdale should play both cup games, but against Orient a full team in front of him.
Grimsby should be totally fringe and youth players in my opinion. To get the strongest starting 11 players injured in a meaningless match would not be too clever on CWs part.

Fine or no fine !!
Uh yeah, fine with me.

I think you miss the point I am trying to make, and that is, if a good FA Cup run makes us miss out on promotion, then in my book it's a no brainer (yes I'm leaving myself exposed to quips etc).
Yes it's good for Moral. Yes it does make extra money for the club, but if at the end of the season we lose out by a couple of points because of injuries and congestion of fixtures, then I shall be the first to say I told you so.

I for one would be happy to lose, although it may be difficult against a very poor Leyton Orient.

If CW puts out a second eleven that would suit me, because if a good cup run means we have congestion with fixtures next year, it may cost us a couple of crucial points.

For me promotion is of paramount importance.

Yes.

The point you made was that you would be 'happy to lose' which is something I will never understand. It doesn't matter who the opposition are or what competition it is, I always want us to win.

A cup run wouldn't make us miss out on promotion. Not being good enough to go up would be what makes us miss out on promotion.

A good point, but I disagree, if half your squad are out with injuries and playing two games a week to 'catch up', then it has nothing to do with not being good enough, but having to field players not fully recovered or reserve team players.

Surely this year our focus has to be on promotion and not a good cup run.

I don't understand the mentality of the "I don't mind if we lose this game" brigade.
We should go out to win every game! Keep the run going. UTB!
