Should we not strengthen before January, where in the league will we be?

Heard RS headlines this morning that Adkins was confident we'll finish top. With that current squad he is deluding himself if he thinks that lot can win the title. If he actually believes that, then we have problems.

Much depends on our luck with injuries.

Given a fair deal, we have a large squad which has certain top quality players at this level : Done, Sharp, Brayford, Coutts, J.Wallace, Baxter, Kennedy.

We have the following players who can suddenly become top players at this level in a winning team: Freeman, Edgar, Adams, Ryce, Flynn, Reed, Scougall, McNulty, Collins, Harris, Alcock, Sammon, Basham, Diego.

The difference in players' confidence when they play in a winning team is immeasurable.

So, we need a keeper and a leader in central midfield, that's all. What comes first, the chicken or the egg??!!

Maybe you are talking about central defence Pete. That's because I rate Collins, Edgar, Kennedy and Basham as central defenders at this level, no doubt in my mind whatsoever.

For further cover we have Brayford and Alcock and McGahey.

This is League 1 and we ought to be dominating teams, not defending the Back 4 any more than normal.

What's the problem?

The problem is that our defence largely made up of those players has been appalling all season.

Clearly not good enough.
 
I still have confidence we could finish top two, even without any additions,
players coming back is one reason the other is I don't particularly rate any
other team that highly

It's a team game Pete.

If we play 4-4-2 there are 8 players responsible for defending, in fact you could say 10 players responsible.

When you have an "iffy keeper" it's so hard for central defenders - tame free kicks count against you, long shots and "mute" keepers don't help much either. Gillingham away was all about central defenders agreed.

tonight they are bottom of their group losing 3-0 to northern ireland and conceded 2 goals to STEVEN DAVIES

It really has come to something hasn't it, when you look at the teams we are playing in October and December and think that some of the games could be "tricky".

Less than a decade since we were in the championship and the last five years stuck in League One.

That's all well and good but we don't do that and we haven't been doing that.

What we've been doing is conceding several goals a game. What would help stop that would be a better central defence.

Me and you had the same kind of discussions last season where you said everything would be ok, it would all come good and we'd still go up.

Will it wasn't. It didn't. And we didn't.

And without changes, it's unlikely too this season either.

I'm not saying we shouldn't add players. I don't rate Basham in midfield and would like the priority to be a player of the type I think Hammond is. That's priority No.1 and No.2 keeper. It's up to adkins whether Long is good enough, I wouldn't know but probably not. What I do know now is that Howard is not good enough and his career stats confirm he is not up to it and never has been.

Last season I was always uncomfortable with central defence by the way. not that we had one.
 



Even Adkins says we need players , but hes playing it cool , , not running around hands in the air shouting we are doomed
