Not looking for scape goats because I’ve already said he wasn’t at fault for either goal and I don’t think many goalies could have saved either. Just my opinion think I think he could have got closer.

Also as already said it’s far too early to make any kind of judgement this early. To be honest he’s not had much to do so far.

Also don’t think it’s fair to judge the team yet as both matches had unusual circumstances.
 



I thought maybe he could have taken a step to his right before he dived, but obviously it is a split second decision.

I don't know why O'Connell gets off scot free, as he let Mings run off him and have a free header.
 
Two pretty much free headers, one of which a few yards out...

The keeper should be down the list to look at for the goal.

Yes, but his movement is pedestrian. Initially I defended him on both goals that are cause of conversation, but its hard to defend when you rewatch them. They've had one ’shot’ on target and it's gone in. Yes bad defending though, completely agreed.

Despite this we fought courageously tonight with 10 men, I think villa will be down there at the end of the season and tonight is a bad result.

His weight was neutral, he set off a day too late. He worries the life out of me.

A good keeper pushes that away, header very slow and barely goes in, alert top keepers react and save this. He's going to cost us this season.

But ahh bless him.

The other worrying trait, that Moore also is guilty of, is that he's too quick to go down. I know we shouldn't keep doing it, but Henderson was exceptional at staying on his feet and making himself big, because he trusted his speed and agility to make the reflex saves.

He looks a little bit lost at set plays, but I think our defending of set plays generally has looked shabbier in these opening 2 games.

Agree regarding looking shabbier against set pieces against Wolves, but apart from sleeping at the goal I thought we looked a lot tighter tonight. Could just be villa are a bit toothless though.

In terms of Rammers for the goal, I thought he did well to shut out the easy finish at the back post. However, lack of pressure gave their lad time to direct a really good header back across which isn't what I think most keepers would anticipate.

What's concerning is how easily he got to the header defenders getting caught flat footed mark side on if you cannot win it jump into him don't foul him but make it hard for him to get a clean header

Like a lot of headers at corner kicks he used his arm to lever himself up on Steven's back clear to see on play back stills.
Very rarely is the attacker punished for this
seems its accepted as part of the game.
As Wilder says 2 out of 3 goals conceded from corners that cant go on.
 
I think Ramsdale has some work to do on the technical side of his game. Mainly the footwork and how he gets across his goal.

If you look at how he dives, it’s almost always from a standing start. I think it’s harsh to suggest he should have saved their goal last night however, I think if he sorted his feet out and got closer to the post before starting his dive he gets closer to saving it.

I notice some have mentioned about his diving style and the fact it looks slightly unorthodox and I think the above is the reason. It’s strange that it’s not something that’s been worked on already. I’ve played in goal as a kid and all the way up until I stopped playing the other year - albeit not to anywhere near even a semi-pro level, but I have had specific GK training from qualified coaches in the past - and I’ve always been taught the importance of sorting my feet out and making a movement towards the ball before setting myself to make a save.

Rammers always looks like he’s unable to spring off effectively enough to make saves that aren’t in and around his body. He’s probably not too far behind Henderson in terms of his agility - yes I’ve made the comparison but this is about styles rather than ability - but I think Henderson gave himself a better opportunity to make saves because of how early he set himself.

Just to clarify here, I’m not saying Ramsdale is a lost cause or even that he’s a bad goalkeeper in fact I’m pretty sure that Darren Ward will make him a far better goalkeeper than he is now, which is great for us. I actually think he hasn’t progressed as much as he should at Bournemouth. The kid has still got potential and I’d love to see him become our no.1 for years and years.
 
I'd don't want to see the full team from last year dropped, but clearly Fleck/ Stevens are struggling since we've returned from the initial lockdown.

I'd like to see Lowe given a chance, I do think Fleck will play out of his bad form as he tends to every season, but IMO Stevens could do with getting the fire back in his belly and fighting for his shirt back.
 
Ramsdale doesn't seem agile but he's settling in he'll be alreight, can we drop the Henderson talk he's gone, vamoosh finito they are 2 totally different people and keepers. Look on the bright side Chelsea paid 53m (71m total) more for the keeper and he's pants.

Great constructive criticism nothing wrong with that with a young player.
Having said that it's a goalkeepers nightmare when a ball is flicked on and then headed back over him it's a big goal line to cover.being caught flat footed is something I'm sure he will be working on with the goalkeeping coach.
