What would you want Speed to do?

Stay and finish the job he signed a 3 year contract for, or go and manage Wales and leaving us looking for a third manager in 3 months.

as much as i like Gary ....he's at BDTBL at the wrong time ! ...so he shud go.

It will be just our luck if he turns out to be Wales best ever manager. I think he's on a hiding to nothing here. Better for him to kickstart his managerial career somewhere where he's at least got a chance.

Right man, wrong time - let him go

I dont think managing Wales is that good a proposition at the moment, the two benefits being, it gets him out of SUFC, and Wales are not a hire and fire unit, probably be able to fail for qualification for two tournaments before getting canned, 4 maybe 5 years on good money.

Seems like a no-brainer to me. The guy has a thankless task here and as some have already said "right man, wrong time" - I very much believe that is the case and being someone who respects and admires Gary Speed, I would rather not see his managerial credentials suffer long term because of a situation largely out of his control.

He needs to grasp the opportunity in front of him now and put SUFC behind him. He's on a hiding to nothing here.....and with the task ahead of us, it may take a more experienced man with a tougher mentality to guide us.

The Wales job will only be offered to him once. He should take it.

I think he should stay. The Wales job could give him a good bargaining tool for getting funds out of the board for January.

He should go as he was the wrong man for the job in the first place. It would be interesting to see if he took Ellis with him, then we might know for sure whther he really wanted Ellis as his no 2 or had no choice

I don't agree with the "right man, wrong time" idea.
When Warnock was appointed (under not too dissimilar circumstances to those we find ourselves in now) he was working on a budget as well, but he at least managed to instill in his team a bit of passion and fight, something which has been sadly lacking under Speed. Even working with a largely similar squad last season, Blackwell managed to guide us to an 8th place finish.

I would be happy for Speed to stay and have the transfer window to try and bring in some of his own players and ship out some of the deadwood, but I also wouldn't be disappointed to see him leave, provided the right sucessor was found.

I agree with you

£1M compo to take the clown off our hands, can't believe he's still here.

How would he manage that?
He just sat back and said nowt and did nowt when he was Blackie's coach, the man can't deliver, sadly I told you all a long time ago.

As much as I like Speed, I don't think we are in a position to let the experiment continue especially if he doesn't have any money in January.

I voted sadly that he should go. Even though getting yet another new manager could be a nightmare. I think Speed may be out of his depth. I'm sure one day he will be a good manager, but it will take time.

How do you know this....maybe he did say something and disagreed with what Blackwell was doing but KB made his own decision

If he disagreed with the tatics that Blackwell was using and put up it and didn't fight it then he was never going to be management material as is proving to be the case.

If you are looking for a Warnock type manager then I would suggest that Mickey Adams fits the bill perfectly

I'm indifferent.

If he stays then good, as he must be getting a kitty

If he goes then our financial status is confirmed and we must have another manager capable of getting some points on the board. Good luck and goodbye Gary.

I'm feeling pretty apathetic about this one.

I'm not convinced by Speed, but feel he should be given more time. The obvious downside is that we will be managerless and struggle to find nayone decent. That will leave us without a chairman, running at a massive loss and looking to attract someone to the club. The obvious plus is that we might get some compensation for him. Perhaps that could be used to attract a decent manager and maybe even give him a little cash in January.

It's looking really fucking bleak at the moment. We are rubbish, low on confidence and just above the drop zone. We may be saved by Scunthorpe, Palace and Preston ebing worse than us, but there is no guarantee. We are one of the worst teams in the league and defo will finsih bottom 6.

This is like when your knockout but slightly stuck-up girlfriend leavs you for a bloke with a Jag. You wonder what the potential might have been but realize you'd be better off with the slag next door.

I want Speed to stay. He and Sir Hoof got us into this mess and with Sir Hoof gone Speedo needs to come out and say he's got a great job at a great club and is here for the long term. Unfortunately United being United had to give Speed the job having turned down various approaches for him in the Summer, but he wasn't right then and probably isn't right now.
Anyway, other than being Welsh, why would the Welsh FA want Speed anyway?, he's still very much unproven.
For what it's worth I think he'll go and we'll make another "Newcastle like" odd appointment.

Agree with pretty much all of that. Good post.

Speed should honour his contract. When he took the job, he and the club committed to 3 years together.

If there was a Wales job clause then - stupid United.

What we need now more than ever is stability going into Xmas. We don't have it on the pitch so the least we can do is get it in the team management.

United/ Speed show some bollocks, commitment and fuck compo for once, take a football decision!

Normally I would agree with that Swiss but on this occasion I dont think continuity is the answer. We are in BIG BIG trouble and we need someone to come in now and rev the players up, scream and shout at them and get them to pull their bollocks out to win games by any means necessary. Gary Speed is a good man and I think he will be a good manager eventually but he's learning his trade and needs financial support at the moment (he aint going to get it here).

We need someone who can come in and pretty much work with the players we have to get enough points on the board between now and May. It is a dog fight now and I'm not sure Gary Speed can get us out of it. I've seen far too much football in my life to pretend that we can turn this around sticking to the same plan. I went to Oakwell on Saturday and every home game prior to it and you can see its a team in danger of going down. All the best intentions are there but its clear to a blind man that we're only going one way without another drastic change.
