What are your thoughts?

Would it change your view if you knew how much Sharp's goals are costing vs a Paddy Madden?

Would your thoughts change in certain players if they were low paid?

Would it prevent players getting silly money compared to some of their peers? Eg Seth Johnson getting 37k from Leeds when he would have accepted 25k by all reports.

Would it finally weaken agent and player power to an extent?

Or is it an invasion of privacy too far?

At present, no. It's a step too far.

I would, however, like to see all transfer fees to be publicly available information: and that includes "free" transfers. There should be a breakdown of who is paid what (player, club, agent etc). This will be an aid to transparency.

Yes, none of this 'undisclosed fee' bullshit.

The club would not like the rest of the team to know what wages were being paid, let alone the fans.

If such things were published, it would only lead to under the counter payments and undisclosed benefits in kind.

I would prefer the same basic (low) wage for everyone, but with big bonuses for 1st team place, win, performance, effort, attitude, number of goals scored/conceded, automatic promotion place, play-off place etc. etc.

If wages relied on performance a few attitudes might just change. But then again who would sign a contract on those terms - everyone seems to want an easy life.

I'd like to see a wage cap though, about £30/week sounds about right for one or two I can think of.

It is not ethical to charge accountancy fees on a percentage of say profits or taxation saved.

I have however been known to charge four pints an hour for advice provided at the pub.

Sorting your way round a players salary with all the hidden add on , win bonuses, appearances , goals scored , goals conceded , league table position , is like working your way round coral or bet365. It's a great area for creative accounting .

I think it's pretty certain that the extra goals he's scoring over a replacement player will be costing more than the goals we would save if we'd have put that money into a ****ing centre back.

Footballers are hugely overpaid as we all know. We also know that their career as a footballer is pretty short in comparison to a lets say 9 till 5 job or shift work but there should certainly be some sort of cap and more on performance based payments and there's also nothing to stop them going into other lines of work after retirement as some of them do but it's all too easy for the pampered fuckers to take the easy route, take everything they can and chill out at 35 to 40 years old. Who can blame them, eh, when it's put on a plate for most of them? Even conference players can get a couple of grand a week, I don't think some of ours are worth that!

No its kind of a breach of privacy its like your boss at work showing exactly how much you earn some people don't feel comfortable with other people knowing that information when it relates to them

I would love to see what money all these players earn, it would certainly make them look bad when compared to Burton and Walsall etc. Plus we kind of pay part of their wages so why shouldn't we?

No

It's absolutely irrelevant to a fan how much we paid in transfer fees and wages.

What purpose does it serve? To show other teams fans that we have more or less money than them? To show players what they could earn at a particular club?

I've always believed that salaries of individuals should be private. There's no need to know what player X earns

It would completely alter the way fans judge our players, especially Adkins, signings vis a vis some of the players already here.

I'd prefer something similar to US sports with a league wide salary cap with basic salary disclosed if it was in the interest of financial fair play. As a big NHL fan I think it's good for the game.

A salary cap is the only way that the authorities can stop the wages getting even more out of control than they already are, but it would have to be introduced globally or by continent and I can't see how it can be enforced with the way competitions are.

If they were published, everybody would be questioning McCabe's statements even more. I'm sure he would love that.

I think they would question McCabe's sanity rather than his statements.

When people realise that tossers like Hendrie, Naysmith and even Collins and Doyle have cost us MILLIONS each we might finally stop some of the "where did the semi final money go?" moaning.

One would hate the world knowing how much you earnt from poundland shop assistant to a brain scientist via every job in between but would love to know the bonus scheme at BDTBL .
Cant have been drawing much in terms of win bonus.
Wonder if we have a anti commitment bonus

No, never. What players are paid should have fuck all to do with anyone apart from the employer and employee.

Unless you are one of those pricks who likes gawping at other peoples lives. Amd apparently plenty on here do. Wankers.

Thanks for the replies. Some interesting comments.

Interesting that most comments seem strongly against but the vote is 2/3 in favour.

For anyone who closely follows US sports are there many issues noted from the likes of Baseball where salaries are well known that we feel wouldn't apply to football?

Agents have so much power as it is. Can't help but feel having to get their player the going rate as opposed to perhaps bluffing a good deal might be harder if these were transparent.

Seems we are part way there anyway as the press always put figures on the top players' contracts which must be there or thereabouts. E.g. Rooney 300k per week.

Curious how the U.S. Teams get around player unrest when player A bit performing is getting more than player B.

Personally I'm not in favour of you or I being in this situation (hypocritical, yes) but football is about obscene amounts of money and any factor to regulate this I think needs to be looked at especially as ticket prices are high and the common man is being priced out at times. Just like Baseball, once over the initial shock I think it would settle down and might at least get some players being paid nearer their true worth and less opportunistic contracts being attained.

Sepetarely, I don't buy any arguments around 'short career' when it comes to making a living. Yes they want to maximise their earnings but they don't die once they retire, they can get a new job, often aided by their exposure as a sportsman.

Either way, players seem to be having it their own way too often now - earning in a week what the PM earns in s year - that something needs to change.
