A topic that's already discussed in the more negative thread https://www.s24su.com/forum/threads/tall-blades-that-were-are-poor-in-the-air.93539/ , but maybe better to continue the positive side of it with it's own thread?

Credit for his leap, timing and heading technique should go to Sam McCallum.

Suggestions from the other thread:

  • Derek Geary
  • Alan Wright
  • Gil Reece
  • Peter Beagrie
  • Ian Bryson
  • Matt Hill
  • Tom Cowan
  • Billy Sharp
  • Keith Gillespie
  • Paul Peschisolido
  • Mark Morris

Yes I've noticed the same Bergan has a great leap with timing to match.

He came on against Wednesday, I think and just won everything in the air that came near him

A player who I didn’t rate at all but had exceptional aerial ability for his height.
His only real attribute !!

Roger Nilson.

Agree on Sam Mc btw.

Over the years quite a few shorties had a huge leap and were good in the air. In the 1970’s, crosses and headers were a common feature in games, now a days players don’t head it so much.

Great headers who were also shorties

Kevin Keegan (5ft 8) at Liverpool. KK had a huge leap and regularly beat taller players in the air.

Also remember Andy Gray (5ft 11) at Everton being really good at heading too.

I'd like to see SUTV do a piece where we see if McCallum can out-jump Souttar. I genuinely reckon he may have a chance. He's unbelievable 🤣

Like a Christmas jumper competition?
but yeah….he’s excellent in the air.

Diogo Jota has scored plenty of headers. He seems to find space in between defenders - so perhaps that's his skill rather than aerial ability.

Do with that information what you want. Pretty pointless musings 🤣

Neil Shipperley for us was decent in the air despite his physique and lack of height. His off the field activities leave a hell of a lot to be desired though.

Lou Macari scored a lot of headers
