There's not much more I could ask of this Sheffield United team, the way we set up and play, the fabulous high energy pressing game, the composed passing, etc. However, I would like to put in a small request for tonight, and that is to keep all these good traits that we have, but please, be prepared to have a bloody pop at goal a bit more often and make their goalie earn his corn.

We played "reasonably well" at Forest I thought. We looked a better team than them for 70 minutes - we looked more composed and calm - better passing all over the park...but I don't think we had one direct effort on goal all match. They grew in confidence as the game went on and we all know the result.

We can't afford to have any of this "To you - to me" stuff going on in their 18 yard box. Surprise the buggers and have a pop when we're within sight of their goal. I think this is really important because if we can get a goal or two ahead they'll be finished. But if we play the long patient game, the longer it goes on the more confident they'll become. And we know they have the capacity to score freak goals against the run of play!

I can't help thinking that they are going to score first and surprise everyone. I hope I'm wrong! But stranger things have happened. Just mek 'em av it! Blades!

My request would be to support the team no matter what. Don't get on their backs.

It's been a while since we've seen such a unity and exciting brand of football at BDTBL, and we should appreciate every minute of it.

They've earned our support, let's give it them.

Slightly imbalanced view.

Are we any good at shooting from distance ?

Are we any good at passing the ball in to the net ?

I’m not saying NEVER shoot on sight, but there is little more frustrating when a player shoots from distance when a good / better opportunity to “overload” and progress closer to the goal is evident.

If it ain’t broke ..............!

Yep, let’s change our style of play that’s gotten us to third position, just for one game.
I don't think the OP means that, I think he is saying that we need to make better decisions for that final passage of play - and we do!

Shoot or pass? That's where buying quality stock in January will prove it's worth.

Agreed we need to make better decisions. But quite often the best decision still isn't shoot. We score a lot of goals and have one of the biggest XGs in the league. This is down to the quality of shots and quality of chances we create. We're far more likely to score from say two good chances in the 6 yard box than we are from 10 shots from range. We may not score screamers or pepper the goal keeper but we score goals, and have potential to score plenty.
With Duffy back we have a great chance to be back to our best tonight.

Shoot on sight will get us no where and will only serve to give away possession and allow them to waste time which they will be doing from minute one.

Play Duffy and play our game. If we are at our best that should be enough.

We don't shoot on sight because the odds of scoring a goal are better if we try to pass into a better position. This is true even though it means we have fewer shots. Wilder knows this, which is why we deliberately set up to play as we do - and are so successful at it. Make their goalkeeper work? If he spends the entire match jumping around catching the ball it might make you feel better but would represent a failure. I don't want to see him move at all except for when picking the ball out of the net. To do that we shoot when we're likely to score - not when well-meaning but clueless fans shout SHOOT at every opportunity.

Wow, some not getting the point here...

I’m with the OP here, young inexperienced keeper, have a pop and make him work / nervous, hardly rocket science is it... pass it in by all means if we can, but it wouldn’t hurt to see a screamer...

What if brownie had not had a pop.. .?

I hope you do that. I trust our keeper from long range.

What I don’t trust is his handling of crosses or our back 4 if you run at us and play high tempo one touch football.

Norwood and Fleck should definitely be thinking about having the odd pop from distance tonight, JOC can hit them as well. Hard and low or bouncing just in front of the keeper ideally. That being said I wouldn't suggest they over do it, Dawson [assuming he plays] is more of a flapper from crosses, and doesn't command his area at all well. Our usual approach of slide rule passes into the wide channels of the penalty area followed by crosses should be more effective.

Play our normal way but a) Fleck, Billy, Duffy and Norwood can all hit the ball well from distance, if it looks on, go for it b) they have a shocking defence, so get the ball in behind them and there’s goals there too.

‘Option a’ is preferable if they park the bus again.

Let’s get right into them and be confident to have a crack from distance

What’s the betting that the shit piggy keeper will have a blinder!

Didn't we score against em at rust bucket wiv a shot... and they built a wall out of rusty tin fallen from the roof...plus the anti bouncing shot.... just saying like...but yes would be nice to have to shoot more

Normally you would say continue with our normal style.

However when teams pack out their defense, parking the bus, there’s not enough space to play precise football. This was proven against Birmingham, loads of attacks, good positions but not many shots at goal.

In these situations goals tend to come from longer range shots as it’s easier to gain deflections and own goals.

Think Cerberus has been vindicated on his point about shooting. I know it's difficult when a team comes and plays nine at the back, but at some point we need someone with a bit of guile or pace (or both) to finish off the build up. I know we can't win every game 5-0, but we should be converting the possession stats into more goals. I love the way we are playing at the moment and we shouldn't change that, so I hope McCabe and the Prince can settle their differences and make the January transfer window a meaningful one.
