Our players look good and we have talent but we've only watched them against League one opposition, lets wait and see what there like against championship opposition

Agreed there's not much between teams at Champ level, hence games are scrappy. We'll see less of the ball and be pressed hard.

Looked only a third full, meaning the crowd should be 15 to 20,000.

However amazingly the official attendance is given as 29,578.
Must be 1000's of season ticket holders on holiday or choosing to watch it in the pub.
The stadium holds 49k (wili) so 29k looked about right, 20k empty seats. The ground looks shit, seats look awful, faded to pink/white, must have been cheap off ebay.

On that game, we would have nothing to fear, but really early days. I think Brentford will give us a measuring point.

May have over exaggerated with the shooting mouth off comment. Just been watching the blades too long to be complacent! Just trying to make the point that these could be two sides up there cancelling each other out with early season rustiness. The fact we have momentum from last season hopefully plays in our favour whereas teams like Sunderland will take time to gel.
UTB
Nige, my point is these are two of the favourites, rightly so, I watch these games and think how will we do? I am not saying we have no worries, of course we do, but, I like a lot of us think, the more I think about it I reckon we will do ok, tonight's game didn't show me anything to be overly worried about, like most of the games in the championship last season, looking forward to tomorrow

On the basis of that, it seems more basic in this division. Bigger. Stronger. Solid 442s. Grinding it out.

Made parts of Division Three - Walsall, Rochdale, Oxford, Charlton - look positively Brazilian.

(But tbf Brentford are a totally different beast.)

We'll certainly add to the attractiveness of the division, big time. (With Bolton compensating in the opposite direction.)

Talking to somebody from Bolton earlier, says there only ambition is to be in the championship next season

Personally, I feel that we've been out of this league for that long and been fed a pile of bullshit regards how this league has miraculously turned into La Liga that many of us now fear it. It's like our absence has caused an inferiority complex

Yes, there's a step up in pace as well as in quality, but that's no different to how it's always been when winning promotion from any division

As I've said previously, the quality of the division imo is no different to how it's always been, it's just that the same standard of player now costs more money and that's why w@nkers such as Rhodes are still apparently top of the shitpile like they were 3 seasons ago or whenever

My own opinion is we'll be ok under CW

Out of the teams who played tonight I don't expect any of them to trouble the top 6 and only Derby to be in the top 10 by the end of the season.

We all know Millwall are really poor when they played us at the Lane.

But they had 21 shots away at Forest tonight.
Millwall lost 0-1 but deserved at least a draw. I've been told several times that there's a massive difference in standard between league 1 and the cc. Suppose we'll have a better idea tomorrow.

Not sure anyone said there was a massive difference between League 1 and Forest!

I think Millwall will surprise a few people this season. Wouldn't be surprised if they stayed up. Made some decent signings and kept the good aspects of their team.

Agree with you BB, not daunted at all by what I've seen tonight.

Out of interest what would you class as 'ok' season?

I think we'll be comfortable mid table with a flirt with playoffs early on in the season due to momentum from last season. I'd happily take that and anything else would be bonus for me.

Looking forward to it!

Certainly nothing to fear.

I've said on the 'view from' thread...the whole myth that we're in for a shock and won't know what hit us shite is bollocks. It's not just a pig theory; other clubs' fans will pick it up too and run with it. Understandable from the view of people who know fuck all about what we do and how we go about it these days.

Take each one as it comes. Brentford are no mugs and will give us a right game. But we'll not be stunned at any point by the opposition we'll face because, surprisingly, our side is run by a team of professionals and not some fucking numptys who don't do their homework.

I thought tonight's match was poor with both teams looking ordinary

But the reporters on Sky are saying how both teams played well and both will be up there challenging the top 6.
The reporter on Talksport also said Sunderland played really well tonight and it was a very promising performance.
I'm starting to feel like a football snob ha ha or must be on a different planet because for me the entertainment was low.

A Forest fan is now on Talksport giving massive praise to Millwall, said the `Millwall fans were in good voice.
And Millwall could have been 3-0 up at half time and deserved to win.
He said Forest scored a spectacular long shot against the run of play and it must feel like day light robbery for Millwall fans.

I was told the step up was so vast that Millwall would really struggle and get massacred.

I feel much the same. We all know it'll be nowt like last season, & that we'll get found out from time to time this season. To me, it's all about not panicking, & enjoying the ride.

Was having a look earlier at how Bournemouth got on in the early days after they just got promoted four seasons ago. (Which, what with Eddie Howe being untried at this level, and the type of football he embodies, is a reasonable comparison I think?) And, although they won their first two home games, they got embarrassed in both their first two away games (6-1 and 5-1).

Tbh we've got out of practice with things going badly (although Walsall kept us in training a bit). Losing even on a fairly regular basis just seems so distant. Just not got to get too stressed now when we inevitably get turned over at times, in a league where we're not among the big fish.

Bolton play ugly football and rely on power play set pieces, very one dimensional.
They play like Wednesday when Smegson was manager.

I see that they signed the 6 ft 3 in, 37-year old Aaron Wilbraham this week.

Tbh, banter aside, nowt against Bolton. But very, very glad to be us & not them right now.

They didn't go crazy in the transfer market either – a lot of their squad stepped up and a good number of the players that were brought in were freebies.

For me the Championship is just as full of scrappy crap and midfield borefests, as is the lower end of the Prem, it's the speed and precision at which teams come at you on the break that's the difference, it's why we were good last year, we were playing that kind of football.

Tonight was a bad example really, but you could see glimpses, the odd pass that carves up a defence, odd bit of quality.

Defending is going to be of massive importance this season, we let too many in last season, but it didn't matter because we were scoring for fun a lot of the time, but when goals are harder to come by we need to tighten it up. Hope Stearman gets settled in short order because I think we'll need his experience.

That said, I think going forward we'll be reyt, some players passing might need honing a bit, but if we play good attacking football confidently like last season, I think Billy and Leon will bag a fair few. Sunderlands new strikers looked shithouse to be honest, especially that Vaughan, and I bet he cost a few bob.

Can't wait.

I agree, mid table with flirts along the way with top six looking possible, I suppose I, like most cannot be sure what we will achieve this season because of the unknown, when we settle down we will all have a better idea of what an ok season will be
