Doesn’t matter what season or which manager for as long as I can remember we have ALWAYS struggled against 10 men.
We always look like the team with the numerical disadvantage and never seem to be able to press home our advantage.
Whoever seems to be in charge we seem to be outnumbered when going forward.
Another thing that annoys me when we are up against 10 men is the persistence whenever we have a corner of having 3 players back on the halfway line marking 1 of the opposition thus being outnumbered ourselves in the box by 9 to 6, where is our advantage?

Makes up for the other crap performances dropping points. Makes up for it

What we're seeing at Bramall Lane and some away games is the opposition sitting in.

We kept at it for the whole time today against a resilient team.

Birmingham & Huddersfield both sat in - and we lost both.

Peterborough and Derby both defended in numbers when needed and we beat them both.

We're learning under Slav..........given time and training we'll get better - 69% possession today - we just need to work at it in training.

Fulham fans have told us this about Slav.

7 points off 2nd - easy peasy if we keep improving and plenty of games to go - you'd have all took this 3 or 4 weeks ago.

What do people expect against men.

they don’t just let you run all over them. Invariably they take off an attacker and pack the defence and midfield and play for a point.

You end up against a 5-4 or a 4-4-1 formation.

i would always prefer a goal than the opposition to get a red card.

Yes, but I just wish we knew what to do with the ball, when we’re trying to defend a slender lead.

I vaguely remember a game at Oldham when we down to nine men and 2-0 down at half time. Second half Deano scored and we bossed the match but couldn’t equalise. Even more bizarre Deano was suffering from glandular fever and didn’t play again until November 17th when he scored against…

Had Roos not taken billy out he would’ve scored,
I’d rather that than the red card
On the whole we deserved that win.
Compare that to the Huddersfield game where we were all over them and we fell for the long ball punt and a goal.

Teams that go down to 10 men do tend to play a bit better or work harder than they did with 11 men because they know they are outnumbered on the pitch and need to work harder to compensate for the missing man. Add that to Derby having won their previous game and in desperate need of points you knew that they were going to have a go.

I was there. Remember it kicking off with blades jumping over railings during 1st half to try and batter oldham fans who were giving it. Didnt ian marshall score for them right in front of us behind the goal?

Or even 9 men. Remember Bury at home, took til stoppage time for EEL to score the winner. In fact didn’t we struggle against 9 man Shrewsbury (?) shortly before that?

Yes Shrewsbury, that's right. I think we were 2-0 and in line for a big score, but one of out midfielders went off injured (either Coutts or Fleck) and we lost all fluidity. Shrewsbury pulled one back and we limped to a narrow win.

I walked back into town with my brother, ranting the whole time about how we should have scored seven, until we ran into some very friendly Shrewsbury fans who were full of praise for our team and Sharp in particular. I felt bad after that.

The way I see that game, last season and the start of this season we would've had a repeat of the Preston game but with a 1-1 scoreline. Yes we could have played a lot better and rode our luck a little bit, but we're not going to be convincing every time we win, we'll have a few more like that this season I think.

This is particularly true if the team reduced to 10 are either drawing or winning at the time. They can just pack the defence and trying to find a way through a penalty area containing 8 opposition players is always going to be difficult.

It didn’t help matters that we kept putting the ball onto the head of a very grateful Phil Jagielka.

I'm old enough to remember us being shit against 8 men! Think we only won via a penalty then too but may be mistaken.
You mean the home game against Portsmouth in November 1986? Portsmouth had 3 players (Gilbert, Tait and Dillon) and we had 1 (Beagrie) sent off in the 1st half? It was 10 v 8. Throughout the 2nd half, Portsmouth defended with 8 men in their own half and we won with an own goal by Paul Mariner.

It appeared they defended with 8 men in their own box!

I cannot remember the last time we beat 10 men at BL when not ahead at the sending off.
I think it is years but no doubt I will be corrected !
In my mind it is decades !!!

I know we beat 10-men Notts County on David Weir's first game in charge. So 2013 but I'm sure there'll have been one or two since as well.

Remember us playing well that game too.

I always remember a night match in League 1 at BDTBL where we were down to 10 (I think) but Brentford had gone down to 9 men. We were leading 2-1 and they still got a late equaliser.

It was one of the last 5 league matches of the season where Morgs was in caretaker charge after Danny Wilson's sacking.

Actually thought we did alright when they went down to 10. Created quite a few chances for a change and should’ve had 2/3
