A groundbreaking sponsorship deal will mean Sheffield United will be backed by a country next season.
The Championship club, which owns or has partnerships with a family of international football clubs, will be sponsored by the Mediterranean island of Malta.
The lucrative deal will see:
The Blades wearing the visitMalta.com logo on their playing strip
Significant Malta tourism branding at the club's Bramall Lane stadium
United managing an academy for emerging young players capable of playing for the national team of the island
United overseeing the development of a community programme for the island's youngsters.
Not sure what to think really
Looks ok on the away kit but rather plain on the home kit
They best be putting a hell of alot of money into the club.
I'd heard before Christmas that Cap One wouldn't be sponsoring us this season from someone who works quite high up there (not a window cleaner).
Apparently, Desun paid us £100,000 to have their names on our shirts and Visit Malta are paying £350,000.
Why negative? We should rejoice in one of two truths; 350% growth in 5 years or that we can negotiate deals worth 350% more.Desun was about 5 years since though, and also at a times when we weren't as high profile as we are now.
