I however, do know who it is.

And an infraction given for personal abuse and misuse of the reputation system to that person.

Name calling to someone's face is unnecesary, doing it behind their back is just cowardly.

Anonymous abuse was the bane of BU and I didn't think you could do it here. Can you not make sure people can't?

As you've seen by the post above... whilst the abuse is "anonymous" to the person receiving the abuse, as admins we know exactly who has done what and can act accordingly.

So anonymous is the wrong word really, as it isn't in the slightest :)

The only people who get to see the comments on the reputation, are the user receiving the reputation, the user giving the reputation and admins.

It hasn't really come up previously in relation to reputation giving, as people have used it as a responsible tool rather than a facility to abuse.

The reputation system is built to be anonymous for the recipient, both for praise and otherwise. However, it is not anonymous from ourselves as admins.

Just like the private message system, if anyone receives abuse in any way on the forum, the perpetrators will not remain anonymous to Foxy or myself for very long. There is the ability to report private messages to ourselves as admins which we can then investigate.

As pointed out to the opportunistic individual, the reputation system is there for constructive praise or criticism. It is not there as a by-pass to the forum rules.

As ever, if anyone has any problems, they should come to us.

But why is the reputation system anonymous?

Anyway, I think you should publicly name and shame the individual in question. That would soon stamp out things like this.

It was me that called him so because I thought his respose to the OP was in frank, quite cuntish to say the least.

I was however, unaware that the reputation malarkey was anonymous and would have happily let said person know in full view of everyone else if they had so wished.

Shorhamview, you have my full apologies for the personal abuse, if not the sentiment.

But why is the reputation system anonymous?

There are a number of different reasons that the reputation system is currently anonymous.

Firstly, this allows people to offer their true opinion of someone's actions/posts/helpfulness without fear of either being accused of creating a clique/sucking up or fear of the other person reacting angrily to their opinion of them.

Another reason, is to cut down on the temptation of retaliation/reputation trading. So for example, someone would like to give negative reputation for a certain post/reason. If the user receiving the reputation were to see who this was, they might decide "right, you mark me down, I mark you down" and unfairly give the other user negative feedback for merely honestly using the reputation system.

There are still ways this can be manipulated and abused, but it seems to have worked fairly well in its current set up.

Anyway, I think you should publicly name and shame the individual in question. That would soon stamp out things like this.

Thankfully, over the years, we haven't really had any abuse of this system. Therefore there hasn't been a need to stamp anything out.

I did suspect you, I have to say. Mainly because you disappeared at around the same time it happened. However when I voiced my suspicion to someone, he said that it wasn't really your style and that you did actually respect me, which was touching in a way. After I thought about it, I concluded that he was right.

Why do you think you would be prime suspect, out of interest?

Bearing in mind the sort of AJP Taylor/Hugh Trevor Roper relationship we have I would have suspected me.

jesus how has me asking for something little like the final shirt prices got into me been lazy and not looking for myself, if you had been with me you would have seen me look for it but unfortunatly i am not that aware of ebay and how it works i have never bought anything from there or sold anything and i have never had an account. i just happened to click and see it from a link on another thread i saved the link but when i clicked it to see the final prices it had gone. i always thought forums were a place if you needed help or had a problem this was the place to get that help obviously not, thanks to everyone else who has helped and not slagged me off over the internet without actually knowing me.

I was gutted I missed what you were outed for.
I'm still not sure who's the biggest perve in me and you. :D

I would vote me - unless you are someone I know :-)
Err I might be just depends what you were outed for :D
I have a fetish for feet,am bi sexual in the summer months and have a huge collection of underwear stolen from the local convent washing line.
I also have a season ticket for Bramall Lane ... but I have promised my missus I will seek therapy for the latter one :(

Gosh how tame :-)

Do you really not know what it is was? and, if not, do you have a prurient interest in knowing?

The main thing I wish to know, is how a man of your profession and attention to detail managed to get "outed"? :)

Unless of course it was deliberate? :)

Best thread and rant for some time. Needless and pointless but bloody brilliant and spot on as well.

Bugger having nothing nice to say, give me entertainment like that any day.

Darren mate I know we differ in a lot of our views, but I have always liked and respected your views.:kissass:
Your life is your life. Whatever floats ones boat and harms no one is none of my business.
Plus I can't be arsed to google prurient

Ill out myself as having had a five finger shuffle to an attractive lady I saw on the TV late one night who, it was revealed, used to be Sam Hashimi.

I think Google was a key part of Darren's downfall. I missed the 'outing'; I just wondered why all the stats questions weren't going answered. Each to their own.

I'll just pop into this conversation and suggest that any further digressions along certain lines are restricted to the Pig and Truffle forum :D

PM me if you require the password.

Oh Darren, you so want to tell everyone who doesn't know don't you?
But you're right Bladesway, best rant thread for ages. I reckon Shorehamview had a mighty blast of PMT. It was one of those 'Where the fuck did that come from' moments. :)

He's an interesting chap. See the attached

I really can't see what you saw in him in his female guise. Frankly all it looks like is that he has shaved off his moustache and put on a blonde wig. To me he looks most attractive in the last photo (and I think there has been some serious work on that face, as well as lower down....)

err boys.. chill ffs.. :-)
what i really want to know is what plonker paid 125 quid for quinns shirt?
