Sheffield United Women

We all remember that wonderful day 101 years ago when we last won a trophy. But yeah, the women haven't matched our success yet...

I note that the original women and girls teams were formed by that scoundrel Tony Currie as part of his community development role. But I guess helping young girls is not like helping young boys.
When we last won a trophy, yes
Prior to that we were very much one of this country's big hitters

Women's football will hit a ceiling standard wise due to simple biology. No amount of funding or pushing by Sky will change that
Surely the men will hit a ceiling due to their biology then as well?

Sky pumping hundreds of millions into the men's game arguably did significantly improve the standard allowing big investment in sport science, superb academies and facilities and use of technology and data etc. wouldn't the women's benefit equally from that?
I appreciate that cash input won't happen but I can't see the logic that the women's game can't improve from investment

It is absolutely worth noting this and likewise most of the people that support the men's team have absolutely no interest in the women's team, so I just don't understand what the affiliation is, they are hardly commercially successful, and it's not like they are a feeder club to the first team like the academy, I would much rather academy football was promoted the same way the women's game is, then I could agree that to have the academy brings a benefit to the men's team and club as a whole but that's never going to happen, so we are stuck with this bolt on to the club that isn't particularly mutually beneficial but it may be in 20 years or so
United will spend a lot more on the men's academy than women's football.

Yes so what I am asking is why women's football, are they a fan of mens football at all? Are they Sheffield united fans, this is what I'm trying to understand what is the reason for attending Sheffield united womens games, do they go to these games in isolation and not attend any other football, or do they attend both men's and women's
I've been to watch a few women's games at the Lane and it's in part because I want to support them in the knowledge they still face some 'challenging' attitudes from men.
It isn't the same as the men's game for lots of reasons but I've found that as it's a United team I still get irritated when they're shite, which they were last time out.
Part of the problem with the women's game is the amount of resources held by a very small number of clubs which is a bit like the men's but to an excessive degree.
It'll be interesting to see if American owners take more of an interest given the history of women's football in the States.
