You could see why Willie Carlin was popular with Blades fans. Everyone loves a little midfield terrier!
Mallender looks a hard nut and tackled well but in the following season Rowley got rid of him
Hodgy had a good game in shot stopping and punching crosses but his kicking was poor
The match was Paddy Buckley's debut for us. We signed him on recommendation from Andy Beattie (managed Scotland in the 1954 World Cup and was Harris' assistant for the 1967-68 season). Harris started him only 4 more times that season, Rowley picked him a few times the following season and after that he made only one sub appearance (at Bolton in Jan 1971) until his move to Rotherham in 1972 where he made only 3 appearances. I remember seeing him in reserves matches and he wasnt a bad player

was at both games first early sept battle of bramall lane lots taken out with cuts including my mate who got one on bonce with tin can mind we came out on top wendys huddled in top corner of kop and drew 1 1 at swillsbro in jan mazy willie carlin run to set up mick hill equaliser never seen as many blades on wendy kop as there was that day

"World of Soccer" returned in its' usual 2:45-3:35pm Sunday afternoon slot, the Westward, Channel & TWW/Teledu Cymru regions switched between "World of Soccer" and ATV London's "Star Soccer" at different times during the course of the season. Anglia picked up "World of Soccer" until their own highlights show resumed on 24/Sep.

I have just watched 1967-68, which is mostly the Arsenal match, which I thought was very good given the conditions. The pressure that Arsenal had in the third quarter should have given them the win, but I thought Hodgy played great, which I’m glad of, because these compilations are usually about goals and so goalies don’t come out of it well. I thought the whole defence was good, especially after Shaw went off. I wish they could pronounce Fenoughty right.
I think Carlin looked good, so I was right about him. Addison was probably the best player, and looking at these old matches I think I probably under-rated him. The only forward who looked at all likely was Woodward. I wanted Buckley to do well, but I don’t think he ever did much for us. Mick Hill didn’t do much. When Utd sold Mick Jones I was really angry, but grandad said my uncle George thought Mick Hill would prove to be better than Jones. I wish I had a bottle of what they were drinking.

Cheers Walthy,I've not had chance to give it a look yet...My first experience of Relegation and I was a heartbroken 8 year old...Mick Jones and Birchenall were my favourites as a young kid...Carlin was a great little player...inside forward,short in height but hard as nails,but skilful and creative...Woody was improving,Gil Reece was another of my favourites...Len Badger and Bernard Shaw the 2 young Full Backs...Hodgy ofcourse.

My first big disappointment as a Blade before many others. Winning Fulham by 2 goals and losing 3-2 however time dims the memories as i don't remember all their goals coming in the last 14 mins. Typical Blades Plus Ca change !

Makes you realise where our pessimism comes from - I was urging the ref to blow the final whistle, even though I know the result. That lad playing no. 7 looks promising, clearly needs a season on loan in the third division. But how dare you criticise Hodgy's kicking - that ball must have weighed a ton.

We did wear white shorts for home games between the Spurs match in Sept 1966 and the Leicester match in Dec 1966. We had a lot of home wins during that period and it was probably the reason we decided to wear white shorts for 1967-68 season (although we brought back black shorts for the last game against Chelsea)

Yeah,you knew what was about to happen...I could sense it,the tension in the crowd.
I was on the front,behind the goal on the Lane terrace which was packed..remember telling my Dad I felt ill as the 2nd went in..we were edging back up the terrace as the 3rd went in..I couldn't watch it...felt like the end of the world...Shouldn't have worried,as the good times were not far around the corner,but typical United.

And the only home defeat suffered against them since then was with Blackwell as our manager. Even to this day I am still livid at the tactics (or lack of them) that we used that day.
Kevin Blackwell - the only manager in our history to have presided over a Wednesday league double over us.
