Sheffield United’s Modern Hero

Warnock did a fantastic job at times and rightly deserves credit where it's due.

However he was also more for himself than Bassett ever was, or Wilder ever will be.

His ego and self gratification, amongst other actions, will always mean he'll divide opinion and not be universally respected.

Weeds United.

Twenty years of profligacy, penury and being exploited as a publicity vehicle by various blowhards - an era which may now, hopefully, have come to an end - Leeds supporters have no heroes but themselves

Classic, I almost wept.

There was a question or two raised about his team selection regarding QPR.
Apparently this offended Fred immensely and was very, very strange.
It can only be a page or two back so check it out. I'm sure Rev could point you in the right direction!
Wow, just caught up on that thread. It's a doozy :D

Its a sign of how shit the pigs are that they have put Chansiri in there for them ... 2 failed play off campaigns and so far mid table ! Keep up the good work leg end !

For all those who disagree with the choice, then what is the alternative?

The last 20 years, takes us to 1997.
A couple of years prior to his arrival, modest fare and no stability in the managers office or out on the pitch.
The Warnock years. Takes care of about 40% of the time period. A few longer serving players (Jags/Morgan/Monty).
A mighty fall from grace from 07 to 16 (Robson/Hoofy and a cast of thousands).
Wilder (less than 2 years on board).

I am confident Wilder is destined for the title. However, given the paucity of alternatives, I don't think there was a viable replacement.
Brown for a season? Jags and his "bail out" clause? Morgan (probably the nearest we've got).

Amazing how many managers & owners are cited in there rather than players.

Warnock is the type of guy who'd be one away from finishing a tower of cards and then sneeze and knock the fucker down.

Impressive effort but it was all for nothing in the end.

But, there's no one else in the last twenty years who's even attempted building such a tower. Until now...

Why ? - who was in charge when it went unstable ?

Kevin McCabe.

He has gone through some turbulent times with the blades - Wilson had a 1 out, 1 in policy placed upon him for example.

He has also employed some complete tools - Robson, Speed, Weir, Adams, Adkins and (with the exception of Speed) had to dig into his pockets to relieve them of their duties. We were to some extent a poisoned chalice since Kevin Blackwell left the club where nothing appeared to go right for us. Clough and Wilson flirted with promotion but for a team of our size, in the third tier for as long as we were most certainly puts us on unstable ground. McCabe has done what he had to do to manage us out of the situation whilst balancing the books too.

Take the pigs for example. If they don't get up this season with the money they've spent, they are proper fucked.

Danny04 I can see the reasoning for Warnock, but i think the likes of Michael Brown, Tonge, Jags and Morgan did just as much as Warnock. I suppose from the outside, Warnock was the man and thats probably where they picked the Blades winner from.

Personally though, as much as i liked Warnock for what he (eventually) achieved, Wilder did more in his first season than Warnock could ever do.

Can't agree with the world's most embarrassing uncle as a hero, I'm afraid.

Morgan for me. Leaving aside that dismal period as caretaker manager, never put a foot wrong and embodied true Blades spirit in adversity.

Massive respect to McCabe too. He has his knockers but would never plaster his name in the seats of the stand or charge us the most expensive seats or replica shirts in the division.

Many lesser men would've cut their losses years ago and dumped us like a bad girlfriend.
He has re-stabalised the club again without bankrupting us/himself in the process.
McCabe has knockers? I thought that was Sam Hashimi.

Sorry, I've just found Bob Monhouse's stolen joke book.

You can't even blame him for that really. At least he had the courage to put his cock on the block and give it a go when there was no-one else queueing at the door for the job.

Incoming :)

To be fair, Leeds’s hero should be Emma Louise Jones their LUTV presenter. Universally popular amongst their fanbase.

She's definitely worth a google.
Something tells me this thread is about to make a sharp turn....
:)

Personally I have no intention of looking back over the last 20 years. I am enjoying the here and now too much.

So it’s wilder for me :)

Morgan, Geary, McCabe, Wilder (for style of play more than anything else).
