The attendance that day was 60,669
Which is the lowest post war attendance for any rugby final.

Think we sold 8,000 tickets
Whilst Wigan sold about 50K tickets

Eagles were averaging 1,500 at the time, so to take 8000 was good support.

I remember at the time Sheffield creating sporting history and it was wasted because hardly anyone in Sheffield seemed bothered because it wasn’t football.

I fucking hate rugby!

It's not a Sheffield sport. Never has been and never will be.

Let it stay in Hull, Wigan and the London suburbs.

It's probably quite good fun to play, but it’s absolutely dire to watch. And yes, I've seen England play live at both Twickenham and Cardiff, in the union code. Zero atmosphere and no fucker had a clue what was going on on the field, not even the Welsh die-hards sat near us. Pointless!

I remember them doing a lap of honour at BDTBL. I thought at the time how sad it was that they had so few fans of their own.

I looked the other day, and it was 18/1 for us to win, compared to a mere 16/1 for City to win....5-0 😂
I put a bet on us to with the cup, as I always do, before we had played a game in the competition. Odds were 50/1. We’ve now made it to the semis and we are still at 28/1 to win it 😂

From memory that lap of honour was at half time in our play off semi final against Sunderland. Even the Mackems applauded

A superb achievement

Remarkable day and pity it never took off for them .
