Hi,

Wolves fan in peace.

I'm a Uni student doing some work on the Premier League, and wondered if any of you could tell me who owned or was Chairman of Sheff United in the first Prem season, 1992/93. I've looked around the web but can find very little.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Our chairman at the time was Reg Brearley, off the top of my head. Whether he was the outright owner of the club is another question but he probably was. Perhaps Blades who were a little older than me at the time (i.e. interested in the politics behind the club) would be able to confirm that.....this gets you started at least.

Thanks very much for the help. Brearley was the name I'd come up with, but I wasn't 100% sure of the dates

I also came across THIS about his time after Sheff Utd.

Thanks again for the help

There's a blast from the past.

From an SUFC point of view, Brealey rescued us in the early '80s, got us up the leagues, then had his grand plans for Bramall Lane scuppered by the local council. After that he got bored and ran the club like a corner shop. He left us with a three sided ground and without a pot to pee in.

I always wondered why he kept coming back to football when his experiences with United spiralled down into such bitterness...

At least we're a global chain of corner shops now though....

Are you sure you're not Interpol in disguise trying to see if anyone knows where Brearley is?

He was declared bankrupt in the late 90s

Depending on the depth of your interest, there's a recently published book called Fit and Proper, which chronicles the story of United in the 90s. It's available on Amazon.

Bizarrely, Reg Brealey (correct spelling) is probably the least colourful of our Chairmen from that decade.

I once had lunch with Brealey. A strange, restless man who kept on disappearing to make or take phone calls.

And they say History repeats itself, that's spooky.

So you won't know who owns the freehold then....

:D
