We played Mansfiedl in the D4 season when the line up at the Lane when we won 4-1 on 20/10/81 would have been something like:

Waugh

Ryan
Kenworthy
Houston
Garner

Neville
Trusson
Richardson
Charles

Edwards
Hatton

Edwards 2, Trusson and Kenworthy (pen) got the goals after Mansfield had taken a first minute lead.

Don't you have the complete record book?

McPhail? The complete records book is somewhere in the loft, I think!

no ive just got this friggin picture for my screensaver I got it off a thread on here ages ago ,the opposition have yellow shirts ,blue shorts and yellow socks ,Morris is on it so Mansfield looks a no go.

Probably Oxford. Was it at the Lane?

I am pretty sure MacPhail didn't play as I recall that Trusson's goal was originally credited to Houston, who I believed had replaced the injured JM at centre back a couple of ganes previously.

It was at the Lane , and could be Oxford ,they have a black right winger and a tall balding guy in centre mid. Wish i knew how to put the picture on here or even find the thread it came from but im thick as fuck wi owt technical.

That black right winger is almost certainly George Lawrence. Who is the sponsor of United's kit and is a night match or a day one?

(1) if the sponsor is Renault and it is a day match it is our 3-2 win on 19/3/83
(2) if the sponsor is Simonds and it is a night match it is our 1-2 defeat on 6/3/84
(3) if the sponsor is Simonds and it is a day match, it is our 1-1 draw on 9/3/85.

Another question is why we always played Oxford in March :-)

Its a day match ,every player has their back to the camera ,the picture is taken from just next to the net on the lane end and we are attacking the kop ,which looks healthy there is a decent crowd in. It looks like the Simonds kit but i cant recall the Renault one ,we are wearing red socks.

that's the ... ahem.. 'classic' ajax shirt line up.. and you thought this team was bad.. didn't de Goey score at Field Mill.. i went to that game.. spent more time watching the 5-0 trying to get someone down from the floodlight AFAIR

Sitters, was the grass cut at the regulation one and five eights inches and were any of the players wearing embrocation?

Is Bert horticultural ,and does he always pay an interest in men moistening themselves ?

Bert is sat waiting for his taxi to take him to the station.....a month in the Caribbean awaits. He won't be gardening there nor concerning himself with moist men.

The only other 2 i can remember like that ,were Tom Macallister against Man City ,and Brian Smith (preston ?) both bad breaks.

If its the Simonds kit, then it would probably be the 1-1 draw on 9/3/85. Best guess at the team would be:

Burridge

Heffernan
Stancliffe
West
Bolton

Morris
Arnott
Cockerill
Philliskirk

Eves
Edwards

Eves got the goal.

Are any of the other players identifiable?

i would say definites are in my eyes Kenworthy ,Trusson ,Mathews ,Garner ,Morris ,Macphail could be West I suppose.Im going to search for the pic.

If both Morris and Matthews are playing, it must be between 9/2/82 (when Morris played his first game) and 15/5/82 (when Matthews played his last game). Day home games in that period were:

13/2/82 York
27/2/82 Port Vale
3/4/82 Torquay
10/4/82 Bury
24/4/82 Bournemouth
8/5/82 Peterborough

I am pretty sure Torquay and Bury played in white and Bournemouth and Peterbrough in blue. I can't recall what York played in it would have been their away kit as their first kit is red), but am pretty sure Port Vale played in yellow, so that might be your game :-)

Another one I'd add was Peter Duffield at Swindon as he scored our opener. It happened right at the opposite end to where we were stood, nasty.
