Obviously you have to take what pundits say with a pinch of salt, just like when they are ripping us to bits but it’s clear from an outsiders perspective that taking a point comfortably away from home against another team who we are likely to be in the mix for relegation represents an acceptable return.

Shearer and Murphy are two of the better pundits around at the moment.

I think that most of us would have taken this points tally so far at the start of the season, and defensively we have been very good overall, bar a few individual errors that have cost us. It's a decent start for sure but we have to offer more up top if we are to survive in my opinion. The gap to the bottom 3 is only 3 points and draws may be damaging to us. Even though we are as yet unbeaten away, which is fantastic, we need to pick up wins at home. I'm confident that the wins will come.

It says a lot when most of our fans would have been rueing a missed opportunity against a relegation rival in our previous epl season - i've not seen anyone anywhere call this 'season defining' or phrases of that ilk... In 2006/7 that would have been a massive game... now we are expecting a win and rightly so, I don't see us as relegation candidates this season, if i'm honest I didn't see us being before this season, lower half maybe but I believe we will stay up with relative comfort.

Agreed that it's a good tally but it could have been so much better.

I think we need to disect the season into 4 parts with a targeted figure after playing...

10 games = 12 points
19 games = 22 points
29 games = 34 points
38 games = 44 points

10 points from a 9 game block and 12 points from a 10 game block.

I think that is an achievable total.

You could look at Liverpool and Leicester games too where we dropped a point. So 12 points is about where we should be given our match play. Which would put us 7th!!
