Released from stoke. Alright he's getting on a bit but would still be a decent Keeper to challenge Moore for a season or two

Why not, have him as back-up and offer him a coaching role to go along side. If Moore got injured would you rather Given or Long to take his place?

Don't see why so many against it. Could do a decent job if required I reckon.
I agree, he'd be an alright option should Moore get injured. Plus, he could potentially have a coaching role at the club and I can't imagine he'd want massive amounts of money.
Seems like it could work out alright, but it wouldn't be a particularly inspiring signing.

I can understand the argument for him if he is still up to speed. It can be frustrating for a young upcoming keeper to sit on the bench waiting for the chance to come up, where as an experienced veteran like Givens wont mind it as much. He can pass on his experience to our current keepers in training, and feel confident to step in when needed in cases of injury or loss of form.

No thank you.

Read my lips: "Up and coming" not "down and going".

Haven't you spotted this is Wilder's strategy yet?

Btw - we aren't looking for a number 2 to Moore, we're looking to improve on him. Have you not got that either?

Actually, thinking about it, get this old lady in. She could manoeuvre her mobility vehicle between the posts.

What about Victor Valdes or Bruce Grobbelar??

I think you'll find we aren't looking for someone to improve on Moore actually, Moore will be our number one next season. And not all signings have to be youngsters, a wise head will do good to the team. Clarke Evans Hanson Duffy aren't exactly up and coming

I'd defiantly take him. As said already were not looking for a replacement for moore and nobody at a prime age is going to want to be under Moore. We don't seem to have a realistic back up at the minute and I think shay could really help improve Moore given hes one of the best keepers there's been. Only problem I could imagine is wages but if we throw in a coaching role (like speed) we might get an affordable deal.

How does anyone know that he's a better coach than the ones we've already got? Why does he deserve a coaching role with us?

I don't think we are looking to replace Moore but I do think we are looking to give him real competition for his place. Same as for all the other positions in the squad, you bring in the best available and let battle commence between the players trying to get in to the side.

Think Shay was a top keeper in his time but he is over the hill now and slowing down. On that basis it's a no from me.

However, since Rammers went, I do think we are a decent keeper short in the squad and that we should look to bring in the best we can for this position within the constraints of a suitable budget. Then if the new lad proves to be better than Moore then so be it. Thats how teams improve. Real competition certainly didn't harm either the players or the club when we had Kelly and Tracey competing for the keepers shirt.
