Sharpe/Clarke debate

One thing last night which I found appalling - walking along the front of the Kop about 20 minutes before kick-off, behind the shoot-in practice goal, I heard loud jeers every time Leon had a shot. He was clearly aware of the jeers, and looked as if it wouldn't have taken much more to have provoked a response from him. What kind of 'fan' jeers his own player even before kick-off? There are legitimate debates to be had about team selection with our strikers, but that just seemed ridiculous in the extreme. For what it's worth, as I have mentioned elsewhere, I felt our 2 strikers last night, who cost very little and are relatively unknown, performed way better than Afobe and Berahino, who each cost 10 million plus, I believe.
And b4 anyone points the finger......

Absolutely not.

Dislike ? Not accurate.

Frustrated at what he does not offer (perhaps sometimes to the detriment of what he does), OK I’ll take that.

But when folks spout such nonsense as “Leon was outstanding last night”, I’m clearly gonna (quite rightly) rip it to shreds.

Decent performance and a marked improvement on previous ones. Hell yeah.

Maybe even good.

Outstanding ?.................

Nah.

I’m amazed people think he was outstanding. He may have scored, but he did little else and looked by far the less useful of our front two.

Happy to support the lad and the effort is there, plus the goal will do him the world of good I’m sure, but Sharp is simply more effective, scores more goals and needs to start whenever he can in my view.

My wife sits in the John Street stand. Apparently some fans near her we booing him even when his name was announced when he scored.

Some of our fans seem to want some of the players to fail

People who are saying that Sharp should start in front of Clarke are preaching to the choir, the point I try to make about Clarke is that when he plays I think he does a decent job. Not a world beating job and I don’t think he’s going to be pushing Harry Kane for the England shirt in his twilight, however I just cannot get my head around the people who cannot find it in themselves to praise him when he has a decent game.

If he wasn’t an ex-pig journeyman with a languid appearance he wouldn’t get anywhere near the level of stick he does from some of the mindless idiots that watch the Blades. Probably the same people that were in the car park when Wilson took over as manager.

It’s where we’re at at the moment. Clarke waxes and wanes like the moon. When he’s good he’s formidable. But he has too many games when he isn’t. He does offer more in the air than Billy though, but that’s not difficult. His hold up play is also good.

We are still short on the striker department but they cost big bucks. Which is why we play a system where anyone can be a striker.
