we weren't great tonight and perhaps missed Duffy especially first half but the big difference is we have a player playing a league below his ability that can put the ball in the net. Would love for him to get Rhodes record maybe a bit much to ask. Special mention for Basham who was superb tonight when he started in midfield he tried to get us moving and tackled when he had to. Then pushed back to centre half carried on where he left off brilliant. EEL a bit shaky and possibly switched off for second but big 3 points onto Swindon UTB
 



No, the teams the difference, sharps been here with poorer teams around him and he (one man) could not make them a good team.

But made up for Billy, thought the captaincy was a mistake but CW has proved me wrong 100% in all things
 
sharp , being chosen as captain by Wilder is a master stroke

hes used all his bladey bladeyness to push us forward and hes reaped the reward with the goals we keep scoring

6 away from home in 2 games , we just keep scoring


and the wright record still in tact

I don't like Basham in midfield, if he's played he needs to be at the back for me, where's he's played well recently.
 
Just spoken to a mate; he played in the Jim Smith team of the 80's. Said the best team won. Best team he's seen this season. Said we looked a class above. I mentioned the stats on BBC. He said didn't reflect the game he saw. Actually he said, 'so what'. If those who were there are saying we were off it today, then we must be bloody good.
 
First half we were off the pace after 5 minutes. At odds with surface and all over place at back.
Said to my lad at HT, Hanson off, Lavery on within 10 mins if this carries on, and so it came to pass...
Different team from that point on, Lavery gave us better options, team were responsive to change in approach and pitch no longer an issue.
Just a different team 2nd half, every man stepped up. Billy is so talismatic and he lives up to it every game now. Bash was immense again. EEL steadied up after a shaky first half. Jack was his consistent self. Coutts and Fleck got to grips second half and controlled it much better after a wayward 1st half. Lafferty was excellent for me and is such an outlet down the left. Freeman, scored one (was it a cross or just genius?!) and won the pen, priceless contribution. Carruthers again provided guile, energy and craft once he sorted his role out. Moore was vitally influential when he needed to be with a super block at a crucial time.
A great win after a dodgy first 45!

I haven't been tonight so that's good to hear, i'm merely commenting on games gone by when played in this position.

I just think he drives forward with the ball from the back better than he does in midfield, don't ask me why, perhaps its because he can pick speed up better from deeper when players aren't pressing him as much? That's how it looks to me anyway, LSF.

Fair comment Wiz. If I had a say in it, he'd start at the back every time. Tonight he was just immense wherever he was.

Great save by Moore when we were 2-1 ahead. He saved a point for us at Rochdale too

I didn't want him playing a month or so ago, he's soon seen to that. Can't really grumble at what he's done in that time, he's been more than adequate and will feel hard done to if he's ever dropped from now until the end of the season, staying in form and fitness depending obviously.

Ok I'll say what I think. I reckon Sharp will again be our key player next season (in the Championship ;) ) and he'll score 15-20 goals.

There I've said it, do your worst fellow Blades.

This is what gives me the most hope. Losing Duffy is a huge blow, losing Wright early on the same, but the depth of our squad to be able to reshuffle and come back from a goal down is something that other teams don't have. We brought in three players who imo wouldn't be on the bench for many, if any, other sides in this division.

Guess I'm a bit biased here, I love players like Bash. Limited in ability but makes absolute most of what he's got and displays a fantastic attitude with a never say die approach. Inspires others around him who probably have more ability.

He's showing a bit of quality, aswell as his calmness and reading of the game being better than I've given him credit for this season, not saying I was wrong about him early season by the way but no one should be complaining too much where Basham is concerned recently.

The thing is, if he showed a bit more quality consistently along with his passion and desire for the game he'd probably be playing a league higher up permanently.

Depends what we mean by difference, saint Billy was on the pitch both halves tonight but hardly had a sniff first half, no service and the team were not playing to his strengths. The difference tonight came with the Lavery for Hanson substitution, completely changed how we played and was more suited to Billy strengths (and the team as a whole).

Makes me laugh when people say we are a one man team when we had Billy last year and finished 11th. He is the most important member of the side but without the likes of Fleck, Coutts, Wright and the rest of them we would be sat in mid table again

I take some of our fans' views with a very large pinch of salt. They love to wallow in their Bladey Inferiority Complex and take great satisfaction in being the first to say we are "shite" or the modern idiom "gash" whatever that means.

I can remember very few, if any, Blades teams who are as consistently good as this one. Of course some performances are better than others but the average performance level of this lot is admirably high. People who label us 'crap' in this or that game or even half a game ought to think of recent seasons where real garbage was on show.
