Very good Danny. Do you know, pre twitter and facebook, they would have made you actually go to a game and write about something that you saw there? Crazy I know. One more thing, it's 'mete out', not 'meter out'

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/mete out

Mete out - to give (something) to the people who one decides should get it

METER-OUT – To regulate the flow of the discharge fluid from an actuator or system ;)

I hit the golf ball towards the hole but it was just a meter out
mete out , a bbq for people with type writers with no a on it

I was at the game. What do you expect me to have done, sit on the guy's lap as he typed out the tweets?

Why? Would you go on another board and do the same?

Derby get 30k regularly and this is 1 young prick online. Doesn't make it right but I've got 2 or 3 middle aged pricks within a few seats every home game who come out with worse most weeks.

Hope you've read the response from Derby County FC.

They've acted in the way you suggested was unnecessary. Some things are worth taking a stand against, and rise above any puerile notions of laddish or 'prick' behaviour.

No but I personally would expect a correct quote on the matter. I wonder if someone thought a correction to Tyrells comment was needed? Journo's at the Nationals didn't seem to think so.

The Daily Mail nicked my quotes from Derby too :fattwat:

The more I read this, the more confused I am. The entire story is because of something written on Twitter? So pre-Twitter and Facebook we wouldn't be having this conversation?

It all depends on whether you want to be a provincial hack or reach for the stars.

If you want one of these enough, sitting on guy's laps is the least you'll do....just sayin'

Correct. We would be having an argument on the letters page of the Green 'Un

That makes it all okay then.

When PT "told" the Star, was it meter or mete?

Mind you, it really doesn't exonerate whoever approved the copy does it? Sloppy at best.

For some reason you've continued to pursue the idea that I don't think he did much wrong. I thought I'd made it clear what my view of the kid who did it was.

However I have to be honest and say I find there's a huge amount of hypocrisy on these things. As an example I've seen a handful of comments today on Facebook Blades group pages that have made me smile wryly. I called out one person in particular weeks ago for posting something equally as bad imo, who told me to get a life as it was just banter. That same person doesn't think Derbys ban is enough, and he needs more.

We've got at least one poster on this thread celebrating his punishment who has posted worse in years gone by.

Best part of 10 years ago I got punched in the back of the head on Bramall Lane whilst carrying my 4 year old son by an away fan. I had done nothing and had no interaction or eye contact with the bloke who did it. Plenty saw it and some grabbed him including the Police.

Bizarrely he was 50 with no previous and his excuse was that he'd had too much to drink. He received no ban at all from either his club or Police for what was a cowardly act on two counts. The attitude was that it was one mistake and drink was involved.

This young kid hasn't been given that.

How about a year ban and a public apology?

I don't support vile comments like this and I've called people out during my short time on here for less. I do know however that if a young Blade does similar the number of Blades calling for a lifetime ban or good kicking will dwindle by at least 75%.

It's internet mob rule that takes things to a new level. Nasty vile comments now have have people petitioning for you to lose your job, but far worse gets people finding excuses for you or turning a blind eye because it doesn't suit their political leaning.

But surely anyone, publicly, saying something as disgusting as this deserves what is coming to them? Quite frankly, had he said something similar to me about mine, or about a friend of mine, a lifetime ban would be the least of his concerns. But just because some Blade, or fan of another tea, might say similar and get away with it does not make them or him any less culpable. I agree there might be hypocrisy, it should be sorted out. Social media is like the Wild West at times.

When one chooses to step across the Rubicon, then one has to accept the consequences.

The scumbag got what he deserved. No excuse for that kind of abuse.

HillmortonBlade has made a good point where the internet is concerned. It's a jungle that's untamed, and hence we get mindless dolts using it as if there are no consequences to their behaviour. What Derby have shown is that there is a consequence to this type of behaviour.

As for the other unsavoury points you identified, well there is no law that prevents hypocrisy, nor should there be in my view. That's not to suggest I'm pro-hypocrisy, but if you want freedom of speech, which I do, then this is a consequence unfortunately.

I keep away from social networking. I have no need to know what others do or choose to discuss. All I need is catered for by the internet and my mobile.

Yes, people do get away with saying truly awful things. This forum isn't safe from this, and any poster who happens to be gay will have read the comments of a poster on here who talked of 'bum boys' and being 'someone else's girlfriend'. It has all the depth of a 9-year-old's intellect, yet it happens on here simply because the poster feels safe to act in what I assume they consider to be an overtly masculine manner. To my mind posters like this are little more than scum and spineless to a fault.

As for the person who attacked you, well I'm sorry it happened, and the fact that they got off with little more than a reproach is wrong.

Getting back to what I said originally, you refuted my ideas, as if to say it was a young kid and therefore this alone meant he should not be held responsible for his behaviour. I'm happy to say you're in a minority where this is concerned, and Derby County obviously agree that they do not wish to be associated with supporter's like this, regardless of their age. There has to be a consequence to certain types of behaviour, and the internet shouldn't be seen as a free pass for thugs, idiots, and potentially dangerous individuals or groups. This poster has gotten off lightly. He doesn't have a criminal record, he can follow his team (not sure how you monitor the fact regarding how he is prevented from attending games), and if nothing else, he'll be known by his actions by those who know or recognise him.

I cast doubt over your claim that Blades would act differently if it were a young Blade who behaved like the Derby supporter. I would hope that any Blade who had a shred of decency wouldn't differentiate between being a Blade or whether you supported another club. Wrong is wrong, it's not complicated.

Journos* if we're playing that game, Sean Thornton

Nice comeback!

Love it when internet warriors on here jump all over you because you dare to stick your head above the parapet but end up shooting themselves in the foot!!

But then I'm not a journo making my living out of words.

Still, yet again, you've ignored both the question and the point.

Head above the parapet? He was telling people their assumptions on transfers were wrong but refused to answer when asked about the actuals. Which he must have an idea of to tell people they are wrong. He's the journalist. I missed an apostrophe, bit like you with commas, he used a word that makes no sense in reality.

He's then claimed a statement made by Paul Tyrell was made to the Star when it was a DCFC statement to the media and now can't answer whether the error was Tyrells or his yet excuses it because some digital online hack from the Mailonline being possibly equally dumb makes it all acceptable. The Mirror didn't make the same mistake.

It's a newspaper covering a huge area. Basic English shouldn't be beyond their staff.

Unless the perp has previous and DCFC have been lookng for an excuse to off load a twat, then a lifetime ban for this is completely over the top..

I cant see it sticking to be honest, if either him, or someone around him gets their thinking head on they should be able to get it reduced

If I were him I would accept this Season is done, but quickly get an apology done to Billy and his Family

Wait till the close season and approach Derby about reducing the ban, maybe even get the help of Billy .........
