The Machine has done well for us. He’s a powerful and technically gifted centre-forward. If we’re playing long aimless balls (which I despise) to him that’s the fault of the deliverer, not Madine. It suits him to have the ball played to his feet or certainly below head height. Our players need to have the courage to play the right way (as we know they can and suberbly so) whoever happens to be up front.

The notion that Tufty, or any manager, should make a decision now that any player is going to “start every game” is naive nonsense. We had much the same demand at around this time last season in relation to Brooks, who turned out to be anonymous more often than not.

Pele forbid that you lot should ever, ever, ever have even the remotest say in team selection, substitution, tactics or even the half-time oranges.

It's no coincidence that we've only started to get positive results in these 'big games' away since we've signed and used Madine.

Started v Norwich - drew 2-2
Started v Villa - 3-0 until he went off and our defence collapsed
Came on at WBA - won 1-0

He's got a big part to play for the rest of the season. Much more useful than Hogan for our style of play.

So the only match we won out of those three was when he came on as sub. I think on that note the OP will rest his case.

He can’t possibly be held in any way accountable for the collapse at Villa and a draw at Norwich is a very good result

I disagree reference Hogan. We need to remember it's not been our style that hasn't suited him the last 2 games. But the fact that vs Rotherham they went down to 10 men and defended deep, leaving no space behind. Against Brentford we went down to 10 and had no platform to build and use the space as he clearly isint suited to play up top alone. He will come good!
