Settling for a point

Weirdly, I thought we looked knackered. If we were settling for a point, you'd expect us to actually attempt to stop a cross at some point. A few players looked like they couldn't run. Makes you wonder what they've been up to in the international break.

60 was a rough guesstimate, maybe say 70 then. Either way we look leggy late on recently, bar Blackburn.

Preston and Millwall we were very lucky to get 3 points after throwing them away. Hull was a very fortuitous penalty, was it not for that we wouldn’t have scored as they were on top after that.

Norwich I’ll give you we kept plugging away and got our just rewards.

Say 80 minutes then you'd be closer to the facts of the matter .

As you were .

Daftest quote of the season so far. Absolutely wiped the floor with them first half. and we were outstanding. For whatever reason it didn’t happen for us second half. You obviously have forgotten Southend at home, Walsall away and Boro this season. A massive overreaction. The negativity tonight is astounding
I don’t think it’s negativity sbb, it’s purely frustration.

You are right regards the first half and that’s where the frustration stems from, if people can’t get it off their chest on a forum then where do they let it off?

Those two halfs didn't belong to the same match, we were superb in the 1st half apart from the first 19 seconds, as good as we have played for a bit, but what the heck happened at half time, we didn't look like the same team after. You can ignore the commentators comments about settling for a draw after 75 mins, CW might have said it but surely he didn't mean it, we never settle for anything. Not sure it was fitness either, sure we put lots into the 1st half but we had 15 minutes recovery time & they are proper athletes now, but honestly I am not too disappointed, we looked great for the most part & just have to get our heads down & work harder.

We were superb in the first half but, without strikers to take advantage, we had very little to fall back on in the second half. The first half is where we should have put the game to bed.

Go in at HT 2-1, 3-1 and we can sit back and conserve energy. That's what Derby did tonight.

You obviously haven't just listened to Brian The Blade on P & G. That cunt should go to his conservatory, fill a bucket with red wine and put his fucking head in it. For an hour.

.

Second daftest quote of the season. The sign of a decent team is one that can rectify its mistakes. We deserved both wins. We just had a 10 minute spell in each where we switched off

Derby went in at 2-1 or 3-1 at HT and sat back and conserved energy ? Sorry Grafikhaus but you've lost me there ?

Obviously talking about the second half, nothing but praise for the first. We were outstanding. That second half though is up there for me as about as un-unitedlike as you can get, and all our own doing.

No, I meant if our strikers functioned properly, shot on sight etc. we could/should have gone in at HT in the lead. That's when the game was there for the taking. Derby absorbed our pressure in the first half whereas we blew ourselves out. The rest is history.

True we dropped off second half and should have taken something but it’s the daft comments like “ one of the worst performances I’ve seen of Chris Wilders United” that are annoying. Yes today was frustrating Wiz but fuck me it wasn’t that bad

Yeah but we were leggy and lethargic in both of those games at the 60 minute mark . It was pure luck that they were leggier and even more lethargic than us in the final 10 minutes .

You didn’t go to Walsall then ;)

Anyone hear the commentator at around the 70th minute say he’s spoke to Chris this week and he said if we were level in the last 20 we’d settle for it? Or words of that ilk?

Find that alarming. We know we can’t manage a game (Blackburn apart) so why would we try? We have one way of playing - in that second half we completely abandoned it. Let them cross at will with no urgency to get out, no high pressing, just lacked any urgency at all really.

Very strange half of football, we looked fucking knackered again and most of them have had 2 weeks off. If we’re not winning after 60 minutes I just can’t see us picking up points.

I heard it. I found it incredible tbh. Well, we got what deserved didn’t we for playing like that in the second half? When their goal went in I said, “serves us right!”. That was a poor effort in the second half. As you say, we abandoned all the principles of how we normally play and it bit us on the arse.

First half I thought we played well, although we played some really poor final balls into the box. Sharp looked very frustrated and I don’t blame him. Why we brought him off I really don’t know. Poor decision imo, but then again Wilder thought he’d got a draw in the bag I suppose.

Hopefully we’ll learn from it.

I can sort of understand letting them cross had they been a slow, big and meandering side (ala Bolton) But they’re full of quick nippy players. It was Marriott running past our defence and instinctively flicking it in, terrible goal to concede but we saw it coming.
It was a great goal tbf. Looks like a very good instinctive finisher (and his family are Blades).!

I see what you're saying mate . In the first half i tend to agtee with you but for me it was more a case of us not being clinical enough than Derby sucessfully absorbing our pressure . We could and should have gone in at HT in front .

Fuck knows what happened in the second half though .

We went from 2 up to level at home against Preston North End who hadn’t scored a goal away from home all season.

If they were able to defend we would’ve thrown away the most impossible to throw away 3 pounds of the season.

Agreed, we’ve had far worse performances but I don’t think that’s many people’s qualms. It’s why we let a game that we was dominating slip away and how we combat it that is been debated.

We’re in a good place right now but let’s hope Wilder learns from his mistakes otherwise it will turn out to be another missed opportunity.

We’re a better team than Derby.

70 will do just fine. Recent weeks we’ve been poor after that mark, hence us throwing away leads against Millwall and Preston.

So we're leggy and lethargic after 60 minutes and then get a second wind or summat in the latter stages and kill teams off ?

Edit: my bad . It's the 70th minute when our legs fall off .

How can you not think from watching us recently that we look leggy late on?

Good reaction against Preston and Mill no doubt but inviting pressure by backing off doesn’t help. It is entirely possible to have a second wind in football, adrenaline can kick in.

Sad as it may sound, we're not 'unfit' but have too many ageing players in our squad.

We were sloppy though. Not lucky

I thought second half we were shit tonight but I am absolutely certain that's not the story of our season so far as you appear to be saying .

It’s not the story of our season no, as in the first half of games we can adequately put most of the teams away in this division in the first half’s, but I think we do struggle to put 90 minutes in.

Hmmmm, I'm not sure I agree with you there . We've had a couple of really poor halves this season, tonight and Boro away immediately spring to mind, but I'm certain they had nothing at all to do with the age of our players .

Sou d's like it

Yes we may have tired after an outstanding first half performance, but we’ve 100% deliberately come out second half to sit off them and not play.
Can’t understand it after such a good first half.
We’ve not got this far settling for draws and not attacking, would rather have lost and had another go second half than lost and not played.

Yeah. I mean, the first half shows that Wilder can take a group of League One journeymen and play one of the most fancied teams in the divison off the park. We are where are because of him. But the guy is not faultless.
Agree that Wilder can be at fault and make mistakes.
But just because we can play teams off the park, doesn't mean that every time we don't hit that high standard it's Wilder's fault. You look at some teams in this league with outstanding players who never play anyone off the park, that Wilder can get it out of us fairly regularly is a credit to him.
