As bad as they were last year, at least we won a few of them.

Let's just give them up as a bad job.

With this group, we had 3 or 4 games just after we signed Norwood where we could suddenly do something with corners, and we've had one good freekick at Hillsborough and apart from that we've been fucking wank at them basically.

I'd never take a long corner again tbh, at least if you play it short you know it's going to reach one of your teammates, and you're less likely to get countered on.

Didnt you say this 38 times last season? If not, why not. Every time we get a corner now, I reach for my phone to play candy crush.

The simple solution is take Norwood off them. Then again, if he doesn't take them it's very difficult to know exactly what he is in the team for.
His delivery is completely awful most of the time and he offers very little in terms of dynamism in midfield. His passes are mainly sideways and backwards, and his 'ping' passes across the field are generally so slow that the defender has plenty of time to get into position to defend properly.
He'd be the first one out of the team for me. I'm utterly bored by him.
He can probably take fleck with him, too. Neither of them offer anything of any note any more and it's difficult to know what our game plan actually is.

Norwood's set pieces were awful all game. Terrible corners. And that free kick 2nd half.......we need some variety, as every dead ball defaults to Norwood and he's not very good at them.

Our set pieces - particularly corners have been garbage for over a year and It really is time to take Norwood and Fleck off the dead ball stuff, as they constantly serve up rubbish.

And additionally, if Norwood can no longer do what he used to be good at (set pieces, passing) then he shouldnt be in the team. He offers nothing else.

With Vieira coming in next week and I'm assuming take Norwood's spot in the team who now takes on the role of taking set-pieces? Cant say I'm entitled to an opinion about how good he is or isn't anymore as Ive really not watched us much this past year, I did see that pin point Corner v Europa Point in pre Season on the other hand I also saw his pea roller from the weekend.

Who is next? Fleck? I hope its something that the recruitment team are considering when looking at options. be a great position to be in having 10 professional footballers that cant beat the first man on corners or smash it into the wall every time we get a free kick within range of the sticks

What I don't understand is how we've become so bad at them or at least lost any of the innovation and invention we had prior to last season. I know O'Connell used to be integral to our set piece routines, but surely he didn't do anything that Egan, for example, couldn't do.

Norwood and Fleck's corner delivery prior to 2020-21 was excellent so I don't really understand why it's not now.

In 2019-20, off the top of my head....

We need to curl it near post for Stancliffe to flick on and Brewster to tap in.

A big part of our problem at both ends of the pitch is the lack of players in our team who can/will attack a ball in the air...
Always out gunned in an aerial battle so why do we keep launching it in the air?
Corners and wide free kicks; take them short work a space, and drill 'em in low at pace. Then anything can happen; loose balls to pounce on, OGs, etc.
It's not flipping rocket science!

We could bring Glyn Hodges back and play special teams,

Just stand him near the corner flag not interfering with play and when we get a corner let him take it.

This would mean playing with 10 men, but we usually play each game with less than 10 anyway

Exactly! Great delivery too despite the result.

The point is that we've had a lot of success from Norwood set pieces previously, but we seem to have regressed in this area over the last season.
If you go back a little further, it was Fleck's corner from which O'Connell scored that decisive bullet header against Ipswich.
