The lads were fantastic tonight, very unlucky to lose 1-0 to a soft penalty (thought Howard could have stopped it as well)...

However, our utter shiteness at set pieces really pissed me off. We had more than enough corners and free-kicks to really put some pressure on Spurs, yet not one single set piece resulted in a good chance for us. Set pieces are a leveler, and in games like this is where we can make and take opportunities.

If we have any hope in winning next week these need to be better.

Reed didn't put any quality balls in and then Murphy fluffed his lines, could tell we never looked a threat from corners.

Clough needs to focus on that on the training ground and we could surprise them from set-pieces next week.

It's hard to name another side that's actually worse than us at corners

I can't remember seeing one challenge from our players when the ball actually landed in the vicinity of the goal mouth

Overall tho, well pleased with effort, commitment and desire from the players. They did themselves proud

Incidently, I understand Roy Hodgson turned up tonight to run the rule over the Blades team. F'ked off at half time tho when he realised they were all scottish :)

My brother commented to me that our only chance of getting anything from a corner would be if they scored an own goal. It was like land of the giants watching McNulty in their box.

It was the first time in my life that I've seen a TV game where SUFC weren't described by the commentators as being "very dangerous from set plays".

ACCCU

It's been that way for awhile hasn't it?

( another crap corner coming up)

I agree, Our corners were poor last night. Reed just floated them in rather than trying to get any pace on them. Makes it extremely difficult to score. Noticed Basham going up to him before one nearer the end telling him to whip it in. Unfortunately he then just scuffed it along the ground. Was surprised Baxter didn't take the last corner after he'd come on.

Also, couple of times we had free kicks out wide halfway into their half and we didn't send the centre halves up. I appreciate we didn't want to get caught on the break, but you can easily leave 2 or 3 of the smaller lads (Reed, Scougall, Flynn) back to cover the break-away.

That said, we were superb last night, so the above are only minor gripes.

I think the plan was for Reed to hit high, lofted corners. It's difficult to get enough pace on headers when balls are lofted in like that, and as any high corner was likely to be met by one of their big lads, that could potentially have been an advantage for us as clearing headers could be bubbling about in the box.

Maybe we could try a few short corner routines next week?

Or score two goals so the corners don't matter.

Defending set peices has been great and attacking them has not been great either.

We just don't have a lot of height in the Squad.
