So I think it’s time to put the disappointment of not signing a ‘proven’ marquee championship striker to bed and concentrate on what we have got.

What we have now that we haven’t had for a LONG long time? A fantastic set piece taker. That’s 3 goals in 3 league games directly from Norwood’s set pieces.

It gives us an edge that we’ve never had before. It means no matter how much we are under the cosh in a game, if we can break and get a lucky corner or win a free kick we’ll always be dangerous. JOC hasn’t scored since promotion (he’s missed some sitters mind) - Norwood’s been here 4 games and plants one on his head.

Norwood’s signature was as important as a signing a 20 goal a season striker. He’s given us a dimension that all top 6/promotion sides have - ability to score from set pieces.

Incredibly positive post considering youve been on the forum equivalent of suicide watch all week

Norwood will give this side 20 goals.

We may not have a 20 goal a season striker but we're now seeing goals coming from all areas of the pitch. Our midfield scored nowhere near enough last season. Duffy should be aiming for 10 goals himself. We've already had 9 different scorers this season which is incredible.

I agree that we now have a set piece taker. Not sure that we have to get lucky with corners though or a foul. We seem to have good control in the centre of the park. Norwood brings confidence that we can play our way out just like when Coutts was running the show.

The midfield and defence didn’t help Billy and Leon out at all last year. So I agree that’s vital.

I said it straightaway after the Hull game - our set pieces are much better with him taking them.

They've already got us two early goals in home games we've gone on to win.

These set pieces will be a huge factor in us spreading the goals around more this season.

Was saying the same today regarding Norwoods dead ball work. We actually look dangerous from set pieces- DANGEROUS!!! How many goals has he assisted or scored from them already (nevermind his work in open play)? We’ve got plenty of “big men” who can cause problems from corners/free kicks- JOC, Egan have already scored from his deliveries, McGoldrick, Basham, Leon are all more than capable of joining them.

For all the money they’ve spent, theres not one player in that Villa team today I’d rather have than Norwood. £2m???? An absolute, bona fide, pulling down of Brightons pants.

Not to different from England at the world cup - making the most of set pieces goes a long way.

To be fair, in a way this is reverting to the norm with Wilder. In League One we were recognised as incredibly dangerous from set pieces, and scored plenty from them with some creative ideas from Knill and superb execution from Fleck/Duffy and Coutts.

Last season we also started well with set pieces (Fleck vs the pigs) but, as with other aspects of our play, fell off as the season wore on. Looks like we're back on it now, long may it continue.

We were very poor from set pieces on the whole last year
