True enough. But all managers are backed to a differing extent by their boards, and some of that level of backing is based on the degree of confidence a board has at that time. It's possible that if Wilder's great talk and pro-active approach is undermined by a shit start that this level of confidence drops.

Conversely, smash Crewe, Rochdale and Southend and the owners may be inclined to make that little bit more available.

All highly theoretical and open to challenge, I'll admit.

Well there were rumours that they'd lost confidence in Adkins but I think they have to give CW more than a couple of games. I'm sure they discussed very early on exactly what was needed and I doubt it included Basham as a first choice CM or Done on the wing. Until he's completed his overhaul of the team it would be very stupid to judge him and I'd like to think the board aren't quite as stupid as that, even though there's evidence that they're not far off.

All well and good saying nows the time to back the manager and make the funds available, but we've had more false dawns than defeats under Weir in recent years. Once bitten, twice shy and all that...

If we lose the next 3 at home those purse strings could be pulled tighter than... I'll leave that there.

Wilders instigating a complete overhaul at the club and it's not just the first team that's seeing the changes .

For the first time in a long time I'm starting to hear about the Academy players who are hot prospects . Semple DCL Brooks Ramsdale etc etc . And that's not because I'm scouring the Internet for updates , CW's talking about them . The U21's are no longer about a load of so so pros getting a run out to justify their contracts . It's now a testing bed for raw recruits with genuine potential .

I also know exactly what the technical board are up to . They themselves have told us what their remit is and they've also told us how it's intertwined with the manager's wishlist . The Chief Scout is also integral in all of this and his track record shows he's not all bark and no bite too .

In short we are seeing ' joined up thinking ' at the lane instead of a number of disparate entities doing their own thing .

CW is integral to all of this . Give him time . He's not likely to tear the arse out of the league right now but I get the feeling we will all be seeing his vision sooner as opposed to later . And thank the good fuckin lord for that .

On the U21's front I was originally in total agreement with you when the squad numbers were announced . But the more I see and hear of CW and his mindset , the more I feel that their omission is very deliberate .

CW hates show ponies ( probably played a big part in CWs overall appraisal of Che Adams ) .He'll have told Semple and Brooks that a couple of good run outs during pre-season , whilst great to see , don't automatically lead to a place in his first team squad . But if either of them show him that they have the mettle to that he demands in all professional footballers that get in his first team squad , dedication , commitment , the right attitude and skill , then they'll get a place in the squad .

I don't think there's any coincidence that CW has gone on record saying they are 6 months away from first team reckoning . He's thrown the gauntlet down to them imo

2 permanent and one season long loan for me .

So 2 permanent , 1 season long loan , all of which improve us in key positions versus the sale of a squad player.

It's a no brainer really isn't it .

* As an aside I've heard it'll be 3 permanent and 1 season long loan . For me though , the inevitable dynamics of negotiating terms with players/agents will mean one signing will fall through .

I was also going to make the same point about young players having to prove their worth and earn a first team place but you beat me to that too.
