What if they'd only deal if Billy went the other way?
No dream of leading his boyhood team out as captain in the pl, after all he's done to fire us there.
They'd get a proven 20 goal championship striker, we get a replacement that could help us stay up, and if we go down he's ready to fire us back up.

That is a conundrum that’s too painful to think about. You have a twisted mind Knowsnowt ha.

When ever I’ve watched Maupay he seems an exact replica of Sharp, very similiar style.
However of course Maupay is over 10 years younger than Sharp. Head says let Sharp go to Brentford, heart says no, we keep Billy and dump Maupay.
It’s like being told 1 of your kids must die but you need to chose one to live, otherwise both will die.

Call me sentimental but I think because Billy has been here from the beginning of the revival under Wilder and being a boy hood blade he embodies so much of what being a Blade is all about and as such it would be far too cold to get rid of him. Even from a footballing point of view Maupay has bags of potential but one good season in the championship isn't proof he will pull up any trees. As for Billy's age to my untrained eye he looks fitter now than ever. I'd just hate to see it.

It's a proper conundrum and no mistake. I would be gutted for Billy. But is there room.for such sentiment?
 
Wilder does not do sentiment, so in theory, yes; but this hypothetical deal would not happen. Like a good wine, Billy seems to be getting better year on year. I wouldn't bet against Billy giving any of our target strikers a run for their money next season.

Might be said in jest but that is exactly what would happen.
Very quickly there’ll be loads on here saying there’s no room for sentiment but Billy isn’t good enough and we need to get rid.
I’d go with whatever Wilder decides...he’s earned trust and support regards his decision making.
 
Billy is realistic, he knows he ain't going to play every game next season but no way should he leave right now. He's earned a crack at the premiership and even if he's just a squad member that sits on the bench his influence as club captain will be huge. Like Wilder he is part of the fabric woven into our club right now and we are going to need that to get us through what will be the toughest season we've ever competed in.
 



How can we say theres no room for sentiment when He's brought Phil Jagielka back with a full "He's Home" social media campaign.

There might not be room for sentiment when it comes to players like Coutts etc .. but Billy is in a whole different department.

Motivation wouldn't come into it if Chris said "pack your bags Billy, you're off to Brentford".
If Chris did that do you think Billy would play for us again if he turned the move down?

Dont roast me, all this is hypothetical, but much more interesting than arguing with brentford fans on the rumour forum.

It's not just about can either cut it in the prem, we know billy, we know he's here because he WANTS to be here, if this is his last season, then why shouldn't it be with his club, you think more pie will give as much as billy?, you think when things are going tits up billy will just jack it in? It's not just about football, it's about what else either brings to the table, and for me Billy Sharp embodies everything it is to be a professional footballer with the massive bonus he loves the club and is not here just for a pay packet.
Better the devil you know and trust 😜

Age is irrelevant to us at this stage (to a degree). We need to stay up this season. As such, we need the players that are most ready right now. I’m not saying whether Billy or Maupay would be better right now as I haven’t seen Maupay enough to comment, but Billy has scored goals consistently throughout his career. Maupay has had one good season to my knowledge.

We can look at players to develop if we manage to stay up this season, once our finances are looking even healthier.

I’d rather go for somebody older with a proven Premier League record who might be coming to the end of their career at this stage, than take a gamble on somebody.
 
Billy looks fitter as each season goes by, Captain of his club in the best division in the world. His career is peaking right now.

He knows he'll not start every game but I think he'll be pushing whoever gets in front of him harder than anyone

This is football not Sophie’s Choice, given what Billy’s been through he probably distinguishes between work and death readily.
