I'm going to disregard the Ipswich game because at that point the players knew Selles was gone, if anyone believes that the wilder deal was arranged between 9:50pm Friday evening and 11am Sunday morning with a journey back from Ipswich in the middle then fair enough, but it wasn't, the transfers of tanganga, mee, mcguiness, ogbene were all Chris wilder influenced signings, and today's performance was a typical wilder performance with the patterns of play, and if anyone genuinely believes that was an upgrade on what we saw under Selles I'd love to hear from you

I have no idea of the timeline between Selles leaving and Wilder coming back, but it seemed to be far too quick.

If a proper new manager recruitment process had been done and the decision was Wilder is the best man for the job then fine. But it wasn’t done, so we have no idea if we could’ve got better.

COH are making themselves look more and more incompetent after each key decision they make.

So you’re disregarding the worst result whilst Selles was still in charge but then attributing all the signings to Wilder even though he wasn’t appointed for another 2 weeks?

Yeah ok

Exactly - it doesn’t stand up.

“Right, we’re definitely reappointing Chris Wilder. Let’s let him dictate our deadline week transfers. We’ll also make it clear to the players so that they don’t have to bother trying against Ipswich. However, we’ll keep it all a big secret from the fans and media so that… well, we’re not really sure why it has to wait for two weeks but it might be fun.”

We are too easy to defend against with our extremely slow and methodical build up play … we get the full back isolated one on one with the winger to only check back … pass back across and down the other side

Meanwhile they’ve now got 10 players back in the box

It’s really not rocket science just simple stuff …

I rather think this is just a continuation of the back end of last season and people have just remembered it wasn't all sunshine and lollipops
It was a continuation of the last 6 months of the season, same pattern, same clueless knocking it long, same waiting for them to get 10 men back behind the ball . Putting Cannon up front again by himself,Barry 20 yards away from him. Apart from Hamer and Cooper, they looked as unhappy as they did with Seles. Dreadful,he’s got a job on his hands and he will not change.

I wasnt in favour of Wilders return, but giving Wilder grief after he’s had 4 days with the players seems fairly harsh

4 days? He had a full season with 6 of the starting 11. If you count the 5 players that were sat on the bench, that’s 11.

It’s incredibly worrying that he couldn’t get a performance out of the team when he’s already managed over half the match day squad! It’s even more worrying when the opposition weren’t a particularly good team.

He also inherited a squad extremely low on confidence, 4 days to fix the problems was impossible
Hopefully him and Knilly have decided a change of formation is the best way forward now, they need to make us difficult to beat.
Whoever came in faced an incredibly difficult job, I still think CW is the best fit

Yeah ok

And here’s me thinking that was the most accurate part of his post.

I was ok with the new start under Selles until it became obvious it was the wrong new start.

Now Chris is back he needs time to find the right formation and tactics to get us back on track.

We all know what Chris is capable of.

Simply No !!
From what we saw in the pre season friendlies we were on the front foot and playing quite well and myself personally was looking forward to the season ahead, we set off against brizzle really well then that game Simply seemed to kick the shit out of the players confidence ( I think if we had won we would now be looking at a different scenario)
BUT we did as a club what we always seem to do and shot ourselves in the foot . We all knew from last season we desperately needed centre halves ( especially when Anel left ) . We've now addressed that ,but we now need a centre forward in January.
Forget this season it's written off .

Confident wilder can find a way. He has a track record of that and isn't afraid of changing a formation even though people said he was scared of moving on from 5 3 2 at one point when that in itself was a change.

I wasn't confident Selles knew what day of the week it was.

the transfers of tanganga, mee, mcguiness, ogbene were all Chris wilder

Who would Sellés have brought in?
( if he had any control of our transfers that is)

P.s- I think Mee had been training with the squad a few weeks prior to signing.

Anyone who thinks Wilder got an out of the blue call post Ipswich, is in cloud cuckoo land

In the interview Wilder said he got the call Friday evening but didnt say whether it was before or after the Ipswich match.

That's the thing for me. What we saw today wasn't massively different from last season. We lacked creativity then too, relying on moments of individual brilliance while being solid defensively. Obviously this season we don't have the same defensively solidity, nor the confidence. We also don't have a single striker at the club capable of playing that lone man up top role. We absolutely have to switch to 2 up top and hope that somehow the strikers that we have can click, but I fear Wilder is wedded to the 4-2-3-1 now and ultimately we're not good enough to make it work.

My only thought regarding your post is changing the 'is' to 'was' in your last sentence.

I hope i can look back at this message in a few weeks time and laugh at myself.

If that's the case why wasn't Selles sacked at the start of the international break to give Wilder time to work with "his" new signings?

Since you are able to predict events with such certainty, what's next Fridays Euro millions numbers?

Could be the truth, but it wouldn’t surprise me if there had been a conversation or two during the international break.

Wilder isn’t going to admit to talking to the club whilst Selles is still manager and doing everything he can to keep his job.

He’s inherited a squad which is largely his own so the usual “give the new manager time” doesn’t apply to Wilder.

He’s not a new manager, it’s a case of him having a holiday and he needs to get back to work and win football matches!

It does to some extent, however to turnround the current shit show in 4 days was perhaps asking too much

He did it when Heckingbottom was here so it’s not a massive reach to say he’s at it again.
