Season Ticket Refunds

BT & Sky are faceless corporations that I wouldn't feel embarrassed about short changing.

I'm not a Sheffield United customer. I am a Sheffield United supporter.

I’m a Sheffield United supporter, but my family comes first. In these uncertain times, where businesses could be forced to close and people out of work, every penny matters.

So if you want to label me as a Sheffield United customer, then fine I don’t care.

With the issues the world could be facing, I think there will be far more worthier causes to donate money to than a Premier League football club.

Its all so unprecedented and happening so fast, I dont blame anyone- United or even Sky- for not reacting immediately.

While I totally get people wanting refunds/percentages back, etc and that a few quid back might be vital for some people in the coming weeks and months, the way I see it is that we’ve already paid out; if everything was normal, we’d not have the money in our pockets. We aren't missing it, because we’ve all paid it out expecting to not see it again.

Officially we’re kicking back off on April 4th and if that actually happened, season ticket holders don't miss one game. The cup and Newcastle game could be rearranged within the month. Obviously, its now pretty certain that wont be happening, but its the official line for now and United (or any other club) cant really do anything until the PL, FA, UEFA make their decisions this week.

Maybe the idea of offering a choice of receiving a % back in cash or as discount on renewals for next season might work... but when will that be? On previous history, they’d be going on sale this next week or next- but surely they cant be asking people to fork out hundreds of pounds when we have no idea when this season ends, never mind when the next one will kick off?

Hopefully we at least get answers about resolutions for this season in the next week or so. But for once, the Fans, Clubs and Broadcasters are all in the same boat- all parties are desperate for things to get back to normal and none can do anything about it.

Can’t fault anyone who would want a refund on what’s left, these are worrying times. In our work we’ve had to implement an immediate 30% pay cut on all staff as sales have fallen through the roof. Heartbreaking as it was telling staff and knowing what that means to them, as a business we have to do what we can to safeguard jobs for the mid to long term. Some of those are season ticket holders and if they could get £80+ back it’s help them massively. Yes we are all supporters, but ultimately United is a business like any other, and there’s nothing wrong considering oneself as a customer

If people are forced to be living on SSP for 2-3 months any scraps of money will be vital, this is a grim prospect but the clubs may have to look at refunds as an option to look after its own.

As strong as the connection between club and fans seems to be at the moment, thanks to the management and success on the pitch, the club is a business and we're all customers no matter how they dress it up.
Not bothered myself but wouldn't blame anyone trying for a refund.

I wouldn't actively campaign for a refund, but would expect some sort of recompense. I've paid for 19 games, that's the contract I signed up for.

And I'm not trying to be a cunt about it either.

That’s the point for me - currently we’ve only had 15/19ths of what we paid for.
So with just over 20% of the home games left, I think we deserve a refund, or a credit for next season.
If you ordered a coat from the club shop & it had a sleeve missing when it arrived, you’d want your money back - or a completed 2-sleeve coat. Why not apply the same principal for the season ticket?
That said, it’s a unique time so guess no-ones had to think of a scenario like this before (maybe “durin the war”?).
So until everyone knows what’ll happen to the season, it’s a wait & see situation.

I wonder if the term “Act of God” is appropriate if you are a non believer.

The sensible thing for the club to do would be to freeze season ticket prices for renewals. Someone has already posted that terms and conditions do not permit refunds.

No problem going after the banks, but presumably they would probably expect to be compensated by the club?
No idea what the prince’s view is on this, but he will probably be advised to keep the goodwill of fans on his side.

Best solution all round is freeze renewals.

I wouldnt be asking for a refund, but if they want to make this years ST holders next year prices lower im happy with that!

From a purely objective point of view there is no possible reason not to issue a refund for the matches that can't be played and I have no doubt thats what the club will do (they may also offer more generous recompense in the form of a discount on next year's season ticket). From a supporter point of view I'm more ambivalent in terms of a refund than I would be if a gig had been cancelled, my train hadn't run or if my online shop had turned up with 25% of the groceries missing.

I'm not going to start seeking one out but will take certainly take one if offered (or any equivalent sweeter on next year's season ticket) and I don't think that makes me a customer rather than a supporter. I've had a season ticket for most of my life and travel away regularly and will again when the football resumes. This has all been regardless of how good or bad the football has been.

Maybe it would be a different story if I were a supporter of a non-league club who really needed the cash to improve their ground or a league one outfit who will struggle to stay afloat and pay the staff. As it stands we are currently being doused by the Premier League cash hose and can well afford it. Contrast this with the differing financial circumstances of our support base in a city where wages and employment still haven't recovered from the 2008 crash.....some will not even notice it, others might be about to get laid off and need every bit of cash they can get their hands on.

What will be interesting is what our friends across the city will do considering their season ticket money is already spoken for many times over.

I don't want a refund, but I think it would be a good idea to give everyone 2 or 3 free cup tickets next season. This then ensures we get something for our money, plus a large crowd for the early rounds!!

I can't believe I was thinking that the season could be finished from May onwards when the stuff I'm hearing now suggests it might take up to two years to sort this virus out

We’ve had no notice of next year’s season ticket prices yet, in theory they could refund us then increase next years price accordingly. Be thankful we haven’t already paid for next season, unlike a team it too far from us.

I don't expect a refund. But I'm cancelling it for the time being. No point whatsoever in watching it.
Sticking with it at the moment ...... if the PL meeting on Thursday extends the ban on playing, along with F1, there really isnt much point in having it

This is section 4 in ST T&Cs

You missed out:

"So fuck thissen, thar cunt.'

pommpey

I would expect a refund on my ST for any matches not played or played behind closed doors If not a refund then certainly a discount on renewal for next season
As for Sky Iam going to cancel my Sky Sports subscription. The subscription has gone up over the years and you get less for your money these days no Champions League, no La Liga etc
