They'll be lucky to get my renewal next monday. I can't afford to buy myself a new pair of jeans at the moment, let alone pay for a fucking ST in march!!!

If it's anything over £300 they can jog on. The price I paid for this season's was obscene

What I don't understand is why people are surprised when ST renewal time comes round again :)

I'm sure it was March last season... and the trend seems to be that it gets earlier and earlier.

I'm sure some people try and ignore it in the hopes that somehow their ST will end up being free and face a scramble to gather the cash together in a few weeks. Instead, you could siphon £35 out of your wages every month so the money is ready and waiting.

Much less painful that way.

Just buy it on DD anyway, then you can syphon it off over the next 10 months

I'm a bit worried about my ST. A lot of the people I go with aren't renewing - they'll just pick and choose games next year.

Guess I'm lucky that money/time isn't a problem to me, but this non-renewing phenomenon seems to have an unwelcome momentum.

:(

Yep and pay extra to do it.

Aye... I'd rather receive the minimal interest I get from the amount being in my account than pay for the privilege of giving United my money :)

If anyone is interested, you can receive 4.5% interest by setting up a regular saver this month to pay out in 12 months time. See HERE.

I have just spoken to the ticket office monday 11.40 they have no idea off the new prices they are hoping to know later this week and letters will also be sent out with all the costs excetera. ( if the spelling is crap please blame a teacher )

You'd think if they were advertising their sale for a week's time, they'd have at least some info with the ticket office.

Some things are reassuring in their predictability though... the season ticket renewal process being a constant surprise to SUFC is one of them :D

You make some valid points Linz and despite my earlier rant I have recently come to expect the ST renewal campaign to start just before easter........

I don't agree with the statement in bold however. 'Siphoning' £35 out of your wages is ok for those that can afford it or have the conscience to when supporting a family or saving to get onto the property ladder (the latter applies to myself).

At the end of the day its all individual circumstances. I could put away £35 a month for a season ticket if I wanted to prirotise football over everything else. But as much as I love football and love the Blades I still can't justify it. If my conscience didn't give me a good hiding my missus would; and rightfully so! My priorities extend beyond a football team but that's just me.

For those that can either easily afford it or don't have any other big commitment, fair play to them and they deserve to enjoy what they're paying for. What I never understand is those who struggle on their monthly income (or what is left of it) for the sake of their football team, who usually let them down.

I accept that a ST must be paid for at some point. The point I would make is that they're far too expensive in terms of the product on offer and renewal is expected far too soon. For those who are about to harp on about the staggered DD payments, see my earlier point about taking funds out of your monthly income. Both scenario is fine for some, not for others, but I accept you do have a choice.

I can tell you from experience that picking and choosing games is the way to go in these circumstances. I've been doing this for the last couple of seasons and there has not been a single game that i wanted to attend which i have not been able to (that includes the play-off final).

Yeh I think you're right here Jodman and i'm considering doing this next season. From memory i've had a season ticket every season since I started going to the lane about 20 years ago.

It gets more and more expensive and the product gets steadily worse. For that reason I don't see why I should feed the greedy animal which is a professional football club on a modest income.

As I said, I love United and I bleed red and white but I can't justify it anymore. I've made silly sacrifices for them in the past and I get very little back for it.

I was warned as a nipper though  "they'll break your heart son" - the wisest words ive ever heard.

That's something that no one denies... STs are bloody expensive. But for some people, the deadline is always going to be too soon because they fail to plan in advance.

The way I see it, going without a night out every month or a couple of takeaways is preferable to having to find ~£400 in six weeks. That kind of scrimping would seriously cause me issues.

If you're going to get a ST anyway, it's going to have to be paid for somehow.

I'm in the same boat as you... I'm saving for a house. But that means I try and be ultra-organised about when things need to be paid for.

There's three things that are certain in this life: death, taxes and Sheffield United wanting their money as soon as Spring threatens :D

 true. I kept telling myself throughout february that they would be posting our letters 'cap in hand' any time now. I am like you, very organised with most things and I have to be because I run my own business (another drain on my funds). But sadly I have too many outgoings to be able to even contemplate saving for a ST. I just have to hope that come the time I can afford to treat myself. That gets harder and harder every year.

The point I was trying to make (in my own peculier way) is that I see a season ticket for the Blades as a very expensive luxury (one that I badly want) but NOT a necessity. Some supporters seem obliged, as if they can't live without it and I feel for them because I know missing games is a wrench. But at some point you have to let your head rule over your heart. I suppose if that was the case 100% of the time though, no one would ever go to BDTBL

I made a decision at Christmas not to renew, and had been thinking about it since last May in all honesty. Channelling my support into a smaller number of games will probably be altogether more enjoyable - there have simply been too many times when I'd have preferred not going, but have ended up doing so as I've already paid for the ticket.

SUFC, like other clubs, are going to be in for a bit of a shock with season ticket sales this year.
Money is tight but it's more than that. People are thoroughly fed up with football and footballers. Too much money, too little return and a sense that they give a shit even less (both players and fans).
Football's been eating itself for quite a few years. We're £48m in debt and pay way beyond our means for an average Championship side, it makes no sense to anyone.
The money we stump up next season will go directly to a man who is already one of the richest in the country and to a set of largely overpaid players.
At some point, we'll be told that money's even tighter than this year so we have to sell someone else to top up the chairman's bucket collection.
Not a great selling point.

But you aren't renewing anyway are you Len so you won't care too much.

Haven't decided yet. If there are insulting price increases then probably not.
But the post was actually about football in general and this problem affecting a lot of clubs and fans.

I'm going to be renewing, i have had a season ticket for many years and matchdays at the Lane have been one constant for me throughout life.

I can't argue with that.

It has amazed me this week-end that there has been so much hand wringing about Portsmouth and the question "Where has the money gone?".
Into the sponge like wallets of those greedy fuckers who ponce around on a Saturday without a care in the world, that's where.

In a world wide recession the only profession that appears to be immune is that of footballer. Why the fuck should working people, in a world of pay freezes and indeed pay cuts, see ever rising wage demands from players who are dragging clubs to their knees trying to pay them?

I remember a time, and it's not that long ago, the season ENDED, the prices for next season were announced and you had until late June to get your ticket at a nice discount. Now the cart is very much before the horse.

Grecian, you have just put that better than I ever could. Totally 100% agree with everything you said. I have the same concerns and football people sicken me. They just take from the less fortunate and up to now i've been like everyone else.......stupid enough to hand it over.

Sadly i've now changed my mind and so will a lot of others

There is truth in this also, I find myself far more up-beat with regards to the club now that I pick and choose my games then I did during the preceding decade as a ST holder. I think this is because it removes that feeling of the club owing me something due to a hefty initial outlay; if the team does not perform when I attend a game I’ll usually give it a couple of weeks before attending again rather then compounding the disappointment by witnessing another sub-par performance the following week.

Maybe my blind devotion to the club has dwindled in recent years but the game is a far different one these days, I’m still south of 30 and even I can see how the game has ventured from the fans towards the business men. But that’s another discussion entirely.

I'm 21 and even I've realised that, it's happened at a frightening rate.

I'll be renewing mine, I was actually going to post the same question as Linz on here. Why would you advertise it on the scoreboard if you haven't got any prices

As touched on by the Daz this is what is bothering folk and its the same with me. I still go to the lane with my old fella. I'm 24 now and he's been taking me since I was about 4 or 5 years old. Even in that time the game has changed entirely........

When I used to go as a young-un we had only three sides to the ground, the catering was shite, the football was british and there was a realistic chance of getting promoted/winning a trophy. The PL was littered with stars such as Nick Barmby, Alan Shearer, Matt Le-Tissier, Les Ferdinand. All british and all great players with a few very talented foreign players thrown in to the mix. Tickets were affordable and it felt like your club.

Its all gone to shit and it doesn't belong to us anymore. It will go back to how it was one day, because the current trend can't continue forever. Clubs can't keep loaning money - eventually they will all fold because none of them can ever pay it back. I long for those days again and one day, they will return. I fear it will be a while yet though :(

The decision to renew has been made for me already. buying a new car which will leave me short of readies afterwards. So its pick and choose for me next season without a doubt.

I sincerely hope SUFC are picking up the drift of the comments on here and setting season ticket prices accordingly.
Bit of imagination might be nice - say if we get to 15,000 it's £50 off all of them or something similar.

I haven't decided yet. I keep changing my mind about whether I will or not but I guess my decision will be made easier once I know what the price will be. We've got good seats right behind the goal so it would be a wrench having to move around but hey-ho, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Me thinks KMC really needs to pull a red & white rabbit out of the hat this time. It's going to take more than a free shirt to keep people hooked, that is for sure.

I'm 26. ;)
