Season over - final positions?

The best data we have to predict how many points teams are going to get is how many points they've got so far. Might as well use that.

Simple solution is just restart games, with fans in attendance whenever it's allowed and safe. The end of the season is whenever it happens to be. The next season starts after a break. The seasons run out of the normal timing for a while until they can be pulled back to normal over a cpuple of seasons.

What about the games in hand? 3 points for all?

Average points. 28/29 games is enough data to fairly resolve this unfortunate situation.
Unfortunately Man United have a higher points per game average than us by a tiny amount, about 0.02.

If only we hadn't collapsed against them...

I can't imagine the season will stand though, to be honest. There'll be too many games to catch up on once it all blows over, and no way certain teams will allow the partial season to stand. Expect lawsuits galore if that happens.

If the leagues decide to play out the current season when its safe to do so, it is the fairest way to do it for all concerned. There will still be consequences, and some competitions might have to go by default.
I would be happy to see Liverpool as champions, because the deserve it. I would also be pleased to welcome Leeds and West Brom into the EPL, because they will both struggle. Blades have made the adjustment because of CWAK understanding how tough the season would be, and preparing the side for a hard season.
Leeds and WBA are so entitled and believe their own hype, they are bound to struggle.

Not much need for a break when teams have just had 6 months off, (that’s a conservative estimate). Because some country’s will take longer or shorter periods to get over the virus, international club and national teams should miss out on fixtures requiring cross border travel.
Cancel the next rounds of euro competitions on the grounds of public safety.

The top european leagues are what drives the game and produce most of the income for the sport. They should be the priority to get football up and running again as a spectator sport.
The rest can play catch up as and when its safe to do so. No matter what FIFA and UEFA think, they actually depend on elite club football for their existence.

There’s gonna be no left t solution to this but my view is the season has got to be played out come what may , even if it’s July / Aug before they play the remaining games , could be concluded in 6 weeks that way it end most of the potential legal challenges from the West Ham’s of the world which they will undoubtedly raise . A short break after and then into the next season and scrap the league cup & returned the Champs League & Europa League fir a season to the old 2 leg ties

Second is to complete behind closed doors which would be a sickener

Third if they end up voiding season would be you start the season on the points gap the clubs ended this ie. either adding 3 points for other three points for us and other 3 clubs that have played 28 games Norwich start at 0 and Liverpool + 59 and us at + 25 . At least then the results of the voided season actually reward the clubs in some way the following campaign?

Swop West Ham and Bournemouth round, and il take this final table now!Screenshot_20200315-111001_Samsung Internet.jpgseems to be the predicted final table of several models, WERE GOING ABROAD!, well, if this Covid-19 shit fucks off anyway!

That’s also true. But you do realise, with 9/10 games left, most teams have played each other already?

Although who is to say that, in a one off match, one team will prove more difficult an opponent than another? We beat Arsenal but couldn’t beat Watford or Newcastle or Southampton! What does that tell you?

Answer: All games are difficult.

Please suggest a fairer solution then? One that treats all teams exactly the same? I’ll be fascinated to hear that?

All teams have played each other once, but with 10 games to go fewer than half of the return fixtures have been played.

The remaining fixtures vary in difficulty for each team and in some cases they vary quite a lot. If points were awarded on the basis of points per game so far achieved, some teams would gain an unfair advantage.

As others have said, I think the season should be completed even if that means it continues into October or beyond. Any adjustments should be made for next season when all clubs can agree beforehand on what those adjustments should be.

If we can't finish it taking it back to the highest number played by all clubs which is 28 is the fairest way we have all played the same . This we haven't played everyone twice nonsense is daft . The SPL play some 3 times some 4

The only fair way would be for some Boffin to devise a ‘Duckworth Lewis’ kind of scenario. End the league now and use something like goals for, goals against, performance against those in the top half and those in the bottom half and take into account performances in the reverse fixture and extrapolate for the remaining fixtures. Only then would it be anywhere near a fair and just result.

Finish the season off when possible even if its late summer / autumn, have a quick turnaround and start the next season only playing each team once - obviously luck of the draw for who you play at home.

Only thing is that teams getting promoted to PL may have to upgrade their stadiums

Why would they 3 definitely would but 17 others wouldn't
And in reality if they void it are they willing like us say in 7th to forego the £27m final position money I don't think so
Anyone in with a chance of getting relagated if the season finished would vote to void and get another year in the premier league.

Bugger it! Play the season out when ever (and hope we don’t lose any tv deal money) and then next season, play twice a week EVERY week, f@£& the winter break and get it back on track. Have an ability offered to extend the players contracts til the end of the season(whenever that may be) without opening the transfer market.

I think the authorities are in a no win situation. No matter what they come up with they are going to upset some clubs and delight others. If they decide to make the season void it will not be fair on clubs like Liverpool or the Blades who have both had a brilliant season.Others at the other end of the tables would be delighted.Villa West ham ,Norwich etc would be over the moon.It is strange how fate seems to play it's hand in rescuing clubs that bend the rules against others that play it straight .I am talking of course about West Ham who always seem to get a life line from the guys in charge of the game. Also clubs who might be expecting a points deduction that would otherwise decide their fate.It always seems to be the same clubs that either suffer or gain from such things. Also some other clubs could go bust during the shut down which would be a shame.Having said all that the health of the public must come first .Unfortunately trying to please all clubs will be near on impossible.
Also what about such as Leeds and West Brom how would they see it.Now I know we do not like either club but they could be handed a real stinker of a hand.

Why is it seen as a foregone conclusion that West Brom and Leeds are going up? It’s only a 6 and 7 point lead, so why should they be given promotion?

Norwich are 6 points from safety, if we’re saying West Brom are up because of a 6 point lead then surely we should be relegating Norwich as well?

There is no way the Championship clubs in and around the playoffs will accept Leeds and West Brom being promoted with no playoff promotion.

I'm sure some will have pointed this out already, but we were 2nd in the top tier (following promotion the previous season) when the League was suspended in 1940. Worst crisis since the 2nd World War - too true.

As I said that's 6 at most and if we void if no one gets any final placing money . Better to be relegated with 120m parachute than get nothing instead of 20 to 40 m quid most would be basing spending on

If nobody gets money then yes I couldn't see them voiding it but I'd imagine they would split out an amount and go again. Pure guesswork but that's my guess.

28 games is plenty to base a season on .for the prem
Wednesday can't complain if the championship finishes now . They've all played 37 games. The SPL dont play each other in equal amounts of home and away games and Wednesday have won 2 of their titles in 1903 based on 34 games

Sorry for not being clear about this. My post assumes that the games are completed, and under normal circumstances, I would expect Leeds and West Brom to be promoted. I just don’t think they will be prepared as well as Blades were.
I also confess that I dislike both sides, for personal reasons. 😊
Norwich have no right to remain in the EPL. If they are relegated, so be it. 😊

28 games being used to finish the table is still 2 more games than when Sunderland and Aston villa won it in1890 to 93 league was over 26 games

Seems clear to me that individual countries within UEFA cannot be allowed to make their own decisions. You can't have one league finishing , say, 2 months after another league. It has to be concerted and coordinated.

over half the Season gone if they were to call it, would need to take off one game for all those on 29 games, Table is concluded at 28 games played for all and that is how the spots for Europe / relegation and so on is done,

it terms of points it affects the euro places, but not the relegation places

Liverpool 79
Man City 57
Leicester - 50
Chelsea - 45
Sheffield United - 43
Man U - 42
Wolves - 42
Spurs - 40
Arsenal - 40
Burnley - 38

that would be your top ten Bottom Three would be as they are now

Bournemouth, Villa, Norwich for the drop, Watford live to fight on another year in the prem

I think if the worse comes to the worse, this would be the fairest solution to ending the league, all on 28 games played and a fair showing of the how the league as been this year

Do UEFA have a plan in place yet for the farce that is the ‘Winter World Cup’ in Qatar in 2022? If not, it could be that the present problem could, in some way, be turned into an opportunity.

European leagues could take the rest of 2020, to complete the 2019/20 season.

Thereafter, have a close-season from December to, say, March 2021, and then run the new season from March to December.

This would then put the European leagues on a fresh footing so that, with the same schedule again in 2022, the season could run from March to December, and domestic competition could be finished in time for the World Cup in Qatar - avoiding what is presumably the current alternative, which is to have a 5/6 week break in the middle of the 2022/23 season.
